"No idea why I didn't give Akai Hana 5 stars! I guess the acoustic 90's rock channel must've been too fresh in my memory. I think they've improved the ambient music, finally. Plus, now I usually get take-out. As for the sushi? It's easily the best in all of central NC. Fresh, tasty, and solidly prepared."
"This place was pretty good. I got the scallop hibachi. The scallops were tender although appeared to have been cut in half and were very thin. Would have preferred them whole. I didn't love all the sauce they used to cook with scallops and veggies in before serving. It was sweet and too much in my opinion. With that said, it was a lot of food, the staff was very friendly and the take out process was seamless. I would go back for sure and maybe ask them to go easy on whatever sauce/marinade they use to cook with."

Love everything on their menu except for the miso. Skip that. It is a watery, bland version of a dish that should have much more depth and richness of flavor. Best ginger sauce around! Buy a pint of that and their pink sauce to take home!"
"Delicious food and great atmosphere! Swung by for lunch one day and dinner another and both times everything was delicious! The bento boxes are the perfect size and have a nice variety of things to try. The sushi rolls are made perfectly and are packed with flavor. The crunchy roll is definitely a favorite of mine now. The atmosphere was welcoming and a lot to look at around the restaurant. The booths a spacious and comfortable.Overall, wonderful experience and I'll definitely be returning."

"It's a little clean place with inside and outside seating, plus take out and delivery services available. Although it wasn't yet closing time workers were busy cleaning the hood over the grill. I asked if Health Inspection was tomorrow. No,they clean like that at least three time each day. The menu consists a variety of hibachi and teriyaki choices, noodles and sushi rolls. We enjoyed a late Friday night dinner. At the counter we Ordered hibachi steak (hubby), chicken (me) and teriyaki scallops (teenaged son). Self-service soda fountain and the funky "instant" ice tea machine, which doesn't taste good to me. Two meals came out first, delivered to our table. The third meal was delivered over five minutes later. Honey child and I thought our meals were great. He smothered his in the yum yum sauce (mayo based). I had the lower fat version of sauce--the ginger. Entrees Come packed with veggies and What they called fried rice, I call steamed white rice with soy sauce. Wish there was a brown rice option. Hubby felt his steak was over cooked, it was served well done. For the price, less than $10 an entree it is well worth the price. Glad it's conveniently located in our neighborhood. We will be back!"
"We ordered several items via delivery. Very good food. I wish they would've labeled the rolls as I didn't really remember or know what was what but everything was really good. I enjoyed the shrimp rice and the crunchy roll. The cheese crab wonton's were good (they've always been a favorite) but the wonton was a different texture then usual. The family and I would definitely be return, but next time we would try eating in so we could pair it with a beverage and maybe even dessert (if they have it).Did I mention I absolutely loved the rice."
"Highlights if this restaurant: Big place with tons of seating areas. Waitress was niceSushi was just okSesame chicken was largeThis one of those basic, bring the whole family out for low grade sushi. It will meet the need for a sushi fix but don't expect fine quality."
"I was impressed We happened upon the restaurant on accident because the other restaurant we were going to was very very busy. So while riding around we found this lovely restaurant. The restaurant is tucked in a corner and you won't believe. Unfortunately the train was not working because of COVID. I did enjoy the spacing of the customers and the attention to detail. The sushi was delicious .The service was lovely The decor was calming and did I mention the sushi being great?!I can't wait to go back!"
"Kylin is in my regular rotation of places I enjoy eating. Their sushi is some of the best in the area- I love the ten-ten roll. The crab rangoons are delicious as well and you can't go wrong with the hibachi! Customer service is exceptional and they are FAST!"
"This place actually shocked me. The decor is a bit order but the service was fast, quick and the food was great. The sushi was fresh, hibachi was fresh this lowkey really is a hidden gem. I'm definitely going back today!"

Came here on a weekday night. Service was good. Gave us a friendly reminder when they wanted to close the kitchen. Sushi is a bit over priced. Sushi was pretty typical /standard.

One of my favorite quick grabs in Wake Forest is Hibachi Japan. Shrimp hibachi plate and a chicken and steak hibachi plate, both with extra vegetables instead of rice. Of course, not pictured is the always important white sauce. Wait time isn't bad and if I call it in the food is ready in the quoted amount of time.

Don't know how anyone can rate this restaurant less than a 5+. The service is above average for Goldsboro and the food knocks it out of the park. This is my wife and my go to place, we have never been disappointed. I order the filet, medium rare and the wife usually goes with the filet medium and shrimp. Both meal's are perfectly cooked and presented, the service is impeccable and you never feel rushed. I highly recommend this restaurant to any all potential customers, you will not be disappointed. We have probably been to Fuji's more than 25 times over the years.

TLDR: Excellent option for a date or fancy occasion. Waraji is a little pricy, but worth it for the high quality, delicious food. Highly recommend the Una-Ja, Katsudon, and Matcha IPA (who knew matcha IPA would taste so good??) We also enjoyed some chilled nigori and hot sake (50% off on Wednesdays!) We parked near the front and were greeted at the hostess stand. We did not have a reservation, but were seated quickly since we dined late. The hostess gave us a choice to dine in the room to the left (lively, louder, upbeat atmosphere) or the quieter, peaceful atmosphere on the right. We chose the room to the right. I believe our waiter's name was Joseph. Joseph was enthusiastic, helpful, and attentive. A few of us ordered entrees, while the rest shared several small plates. We enjoyed all of the items ordered. I particularly liked the Una-Ja. Overall, we had a great experience and recommend this restaurant to others!

Got takeout from here for one of my friends and the order was correct and she said it was delicious! But for $10, the portion sizes are extremely small. It's like one scoop of rice with steak. I would personally go somewhere else (my favorite is Yummi Japan) !

I really don't know why this place doesn't have better ratings. The food here is super good! The sushi is delicious and super affordable I got a shrimp tempura roll and a Boston roll. I also ordered a hibachi steak and shrimp plate and that was also very good. The rice is cooked to perfection. We came in here because it was one of they very few places that was open after the snowfall and it was a great choice. The staff is also very nice. Please stop in and try their sushi rolls they have discounts between certain hours as well, you will not regret it!
Visit Restaurant Page"The people who gave this spot bad reviews are out of their minds. You can tell a lot about a buffet based off of how clean their bathrooms are. And what I tell you this spot was SPOTLESS!! Came here on a Tuesday and there were a decent amount of people there. I prefer crawfish so I asked the owner to make me some more since they were out because we came a little later. He obliged and had them coming until we left. Everything they had were subpar but by no means they were cold or would have caused you to get sick. A buffet like this, you tend to eat the food that you see coming out and rather the ones that you see that has been sitting there. Their mechanism that was used to keep the food warm worked well, as there was nothing I had that was cold. Is this the best buffet I have ever had? Definitely not... was this the best buffet that I could have asked for on a Tuesday night in a small town/city, definitely YES!!"
"I had a good experience at Yuri for lunch on the weekend. Yuri is tucked in a corner, between several other shops. The inside is very well decorated with multiple types of seating. Alongside the standard tables and bar seating, there were also more traditional mat seats that you could sit at. The menu was pretty expansive and had a lot of selection. We ordered 3 sushi rolls (speed, fire dragon, and seafood roll). All 3 rolls had very generous portion sizes and fresh cuts of fish. The sushi rolls here are slightly larger and contain more fish than your average sushi spot. Overall great sushi spot, would recommend."
"Yum! I'm a sucker for hibachi. Many places cook vegetables and meat with too much oil or have very lame vegetables, but this wasn't the case at YoHo. I ordered a combo meal with shrimp and chicken, and both were seasoned perfectly! I also loved the range of vegetables--peppers, onions, zucchini, carrots, and broccoli. The white rice was soft and perfectly cooked as well. It looks like YoHo also has a number of sushi burrito deals (buy one get one free and 50% off before 5pm...) as of January 2021."
"This is a favorite lunch place for meeting up with friends and relatives as the atmosphere is quiet so you can actually carry on a conversation and hear it. It's in the Trader Joe's shopping center on Wake Forest Road near the beltline. Plenty of parking, even though it's a busy strip mall. They do take reservations, but usually there's no problem getting in (at least for lunch, can't attest for dinner).Love the Thai lunch specials. Not huge quantities, but very tasty and nicely prepared. Kee Mao and Basil Chicken are favorites. Do know if you order shrimp on a lunch meal, it will be just three. Great prices for the quality. They also have Japanese items on the menu including some BOGO rolls. I personally stick with Thai here, but have been with others who were happy with their Japanese selections.TIP: Look on line for their daily specials for both lunch and dinner. They also usually participate in Restaurant Week when it comes up."
"Came for the buy one get one free lunch sushi deal. Sushi was excellent, very fresh tasting. Facilities were clean. The lunch time speed of service was excellent. Service was friendly and attentive. Lunch was $23 with gratuity. Overall good experience."
"This spot satisfied my hibachi craving. My husband and I both had a glass of lychee sake and I also got a beer. We started off with the crab wontons for an appetizer and both ordered the chicken hibachi for our meals. You get a soup (we did the kobe) and a salad (ginger or ranch dressing) with the hibachi. The food and service were both good, I can't wait to come back."
"M Tempura's kaiseki (Japanese multi-course dinner) was one of the best dining experiences we've had in the Triangle. It's ideal for a romantic date, special occasion, or if you just want to treat yourself and indulge. The food and service were outstanding. That's all you need to know. For details, keep reading. The restaurant opened in October 2018 in downtown Durham, across from city hall. I suggest parking in the nearby Chapel Hill Street Parking Garage at 326 E Chapel Hill St. At the time of writing this, parking there costs $2.25 per hour, Monday-Friday, 8am-7pm. Otherwise, it's free.M Tempura is part of M Restaurants, named after Korean-American chef-owner Michael Lee. He started with M Sushi in January 2016. M Sushi has the best sushi in the Triangle, in my opinion. Then came M Kokko (September 2016), M Tempura, M Pocha (June 2019), M Sushi Cary (September 2022), and M Test Kitchen (April 2023). The latter two are located in Cary's Fenton mixed-use development. The rest are in Durham. These restaurants really helped elevate the Triangle dining scene.M Tempura is a small restaurant with a low-key, intimate atmosphere. The bar and dining room share the same space. That said, it doesn't feel cramped in here unlike M Kokko. The ambiance here is nicer. This place is popular. It got completely full during our Saturday visit. Book your reservation using OpenTable. Unfortunately, I didn't get any dining points from M Tempura. I did get the standard 100 points each from M Sushi and M Pocha. What up with that?I found the name "M Tempura" to be a bit misleading because the restaurant offers way more than just tempura. Only one of the 10 courses in our kaiseki was tempura. During our visit, they offered a $38 tempura tasting as well as tempura a la carte ($4-14 each). There was also an "M Omakase" menu ($75/person) similar to, but not as involved as, the kaiseki ($127/person).Here's what our kaiseki consisted of:* Course 1: Sakizuki (amuse bouche) - NC grass-fed bison tartare, egg yolk, black truffles, sunchoke* Course 2: Otsukuri (sashimi/raw dish) - chef's choice sashimi of the day; for us, it was chutoro* Course 3: Ni-mono (steamed dish) - chawanmushi, steamed egg custard, crab, ponzu, trout roe, walnut oil* Course 4: Atsu-mono (warm dish) - scallop from Hokkaido, Japan, curried cauliflower puree, kaluga caviar* Course 5: Age-mono (tempura/fried) - pink prawns (my substitute was eel), lobster, maitake, asparagus* Course 6: Sui-mono (soup/broth) - shabu-shabu, dashi, ponzu sauce; we were served Hawaiian amberjack and sea bream* Course 7: Yaki-mono (grilled dish) - Wagyu "pave" (a.k.a. "flake steak"), soy-cured egg yolk* Course 8: Shokuji (rice/meal) - blue crab hand roll (my substitute was a tuna tartare with tobiko hand roll), ikura, miso soup* Course 9: Pre-Dessert - monaka, foie gras, persimmon, Fruity Pebbles; paired with complimentary sauternes* Course 10: Dessert - chef's choice ice cream -- yuzu mango ice cream topped with raspberry sorbetDrinks* Born "Gold" Junmai Daiginjo Sake (8 oz carafe for $25)* Glass of the Santiago Ruiz, Albarino, Pontevedra, Spain (5 oz for $15)Every course was delicious, equally fantastic, and gorgeously presented. It was evident that each course was well thought out and carefully executed. The food quality was fresh and superb.Something I appreciated was the substitutions because of my crustacean allergy (see Courses 5 and 8). They weren't afterthoughts. In fact, my wife admitted she was jealous of the tempura eel substitute I received instead of prawns. The tempura was terrific. It was "authentic" tempura where you could actually taste the ingredients. The batter was light and crispy, and enhanced - not overwhelmed - the seafood and veggies. The tempura and other courses came with cute and fun dining accessories. Examples included lemon juicers that looked like fish (for the tempura) and little golden spoons that matched the small chawanmushi bowls. The chawanmushi was phenomenal. Umami to the max, and the temperature and consistency were perfect. The Wagyu "pave" "flake steak" was unique in the how we were able to press our steaks down into ultra thin slices. How'd they do that? The shabu-shabu course had some firsts for us. First, the plates bended in half at 90 degrees. Second, the boiling flame hot pots had paper linings in the broths. We've never seen that before.Though not uncommon on prix fixe menus, we liked that there were two desserts. The monaka with foie gras and Fruity Pebbles was certainly creative and interesting! It hit me with all sorts of flavors and textures. The dessert wine was a nice touch. If M Tempura has a weakness, it's drinks. They don't have any cocktails.Service was excellent. We had a party of four and the courses were paced comfortably with no hiccups. Our server (Woolim?) was great. She was friendly and knowledgeable. She let us sample both wine and sake before we committed to purchasing."
"I was in the mood for sushi as Saturday's have become sushi day for me as of late so I wanted to try a new place. Umami is literally 10 mins away and I always wanted to try them. After leaving target and checking online and seeing that they were supposedly closed it was a nice surprise that they were open (opens @12 on Saturdays). They are offering dine in services so I decided to stay and dine in there. I guess since it had just opened for the day or people don't know they offer dine in again, there were little to no one in the place which was completely fine with me. The unique part about ordering at Umami is as soon as you walk in there is a screen where you order from. It's pretty easy and the menu is as big as day right next to it. You select from the categories of food they offer and you pay and the ticket is sent over to the cooks so it's all contactless in that aspect. I ordered the Tempura Calamari ($8.95), I picked 2 (Jalamachi & Braza) rolls for $15 (Jalamachi is a spicy roll with salmon, spicy mayo, crunch, topped with yellowtail, avocado, fresh jalapeños, shichimi, kaiwari & ponzu dipping sauce; Braza is a spicy tuna roll with shrimp tempura wrapped with tuna tatami, jalapeños and comes with teriyaki and umami sauce) and I also ordered a steak and shrimp Teppan Bowl which also comes with mixed veggies and noodles and rice. Given that there weren't many people here at the moment it didn't take long for my entire meal to be prepared and brought to me (about 7-10 mins). Now I've been to a few sushi/ Japanese restaurants in Raleigh and Wake Forest and I feel like Umami might have the best Calamari hands down. It was crunchy and golden and covered in a sauce (that I don't recall unfortunately) and they were a nice size which put the icing on the cake. As for the sushi, I had no complaints. Everything taste fresh. The Braza was my favorite between the two. The shrimp only came on one roll so I was bummed about that but the rolls still were good without them. The umami sauce that came with the rolls is extremely good as well. The combination of dipping the rolls in the umami sauce and teriyaki sauce makes the rolls sensational. Last but not least, the steak and shrimp teppan bowl was so good. The steak and shrimp were both seasoned and hot and once stirred in with the vegetables and rice and noddles it makes a great bowl. It was my first time having a bowl with both rice and noddles and I was very satisfied. Overall my experience at Umami was amazing and I definitely see myself coming again to try other rolls and bowls. I recommend this place to any sushi and Japanese food lover."
"I have been a customer since Little Tokyyo restaurant opened.Always professionals with skilled food preparation and freshly obtained ingredients.Chef's Loyalty treat was the free surf clam.I highly recommend"
"I've eaten here a few times and while I''ve only ordered vegetable dishes, I have enjoyed them. My food has always arrived quickly, fresh and with generous portions. The store was clean and the staff was accommodating. Would return again."
"The low-down: The food is always good, it's great entertainment, and time passes by quickly because there is always something in front of you while you wait for the main course. Fun fact: hibachi-style" is often used in the US to refer to what is really teppanyaki cooking. Hibachi grills are small, portable barbecue grills that are made from cast iron. These grills have an open-grate and typically use charcoal versus Teppanyakigrilling is done using an iron griddle with a flat, solid surface and used to prepare food in front of guests. Teppanyaki grills usually use propane as a heat source for cooking. For my sons 13th b day he chose Kanki (as he does most years) as his birthday dinner. Since I've been coming to the Raleigh location over the past several years, I really felt like it has lost some of its appeal. I can't quite point my finger in what it is, but the restaurant just seems run-down and desolate. Walking inside it was crowded for 5 pm on a Thursday night, since we did not make a reservation we had to wait a few minutes before we were seated (party of 6). Even though they say no reservations necessary, I recommend them. Once seated we had to wait an additional 15 min to see if they could fill the two empty chairs at our table w patrons before getting started with the cooking. It's always entertaining to see the culinary cooking and cutting skills of the chefs while they grill chicken, pork, beef and seafood, along side rice and veggies while also putting on a little show of fun antics. The amount of food is always more than adequate. service was adequate. Overall it was a nice experience, as usual, and made even nicer by my family paying for my and my son's meal since our birthdays are so close together!"
"I saw so many great reviews for this place, and hopefully I will re-try this once covid is over. i placed an order at the walk up window one afternoon when it wasn't overly busy. Based on the menu, I ordered a teriyaki chicken with extra veggies over 1/2 scoop of rice, with the sauces on the side.Nonetheless, the food was BATHING in the sauces, and was overly salty. I did appreciate the extra veggies in it, as they added a good amount of broccoli, however the amount of onions that were included (that i didn't see until i started digging through all of the sauce) was immense! Unfortunately for me, the experience was not very good, as there was way too many onions, bathing in sauce and was way too salty. It is definitely a good 'quick food' place, if you are into that. Prices were not that bad for the amount of food that you are getting, however, following directions from the customer was definitely not their forte."
"Delicious fresh sushi in a beautiful restaurant with attentive and sweet staff. Ive been here before many times and this restaurant does not disappoint. The sushi was so fresh, just the right size pieces. The ratio to fish to rice was correct and it was just delicious. The side salad is plentiful with delicious dressing and a great mix of greens. I will certainly return."
"Brand new location, the food was FRESH, and all of the sauces were available, although the ginger was a bit watery. The other locations tend to not even replace mustard sauce when it runs out but as long as they continue the standard of stocking and cooking with fresh ingredients, I'll make this New Tokyo my new go-to for fast-food Japanese style.I ordered the Hibachi Shrimp entree, with one scoop of rice replaced with zucchini (the other locations normally tell me I can't change it out/so I was happy)I'll definitely be back!"
"I ate here for lunch and had the Samurai. The chef was really entertaining and the portion sizes were very generous. The ribeye was incredibly tender and the grilled shrimp cooked perfectly. I also had chicken, which was just as tasty, but by the time I got around to the chicken, I was going into a food coma! The restaurant was also very clean and the staff was welcoming and friendly. I plan on going back to have another meal and recommend Kabuki if you want a special, entertaining dining experience."
"This is easily one of the best Chinese places in Goldsboro. It can be a a little hit or miss sometimes but overall I am consistently happy with the food and prices here"
""Sushi & hibachi, and all-you-can-eat option, near Ninth Street in Durham"Right next to the Whole Foods on Broad Street in Durham, and super close to Duke University's east campus, is this new restaurant, just opened a few days ago. It sits in the spot where Vine Sushi used to be, so the theme is maintained. However, unlike Vine, this offers you sushi, various hibachi entrees, and all-you-can-eat options. We arrived on a Friday evening at just before 6pm, and the place was very empty. That said, they did JUST open maybe 5 days ago, so word hasn't gotten out yet. They do have an a la carte menu, but we all opted for the all-you-can-eat options. Their menu says that's $15 for lunch (11-3pm) and $24 for dinner. There is a small catch (often true at other AYCE places)-- if you can't finish your food, you have to pay for what's left on your plate, but it's not much-- maybe 50 cents per piece (and you can then take it home). I ordered only the crabmeat salad, a black pepper tuna roll, and a Mt. Fuji roll. My dining mates ordered a lot more, including the gyoza. Note: you can keep ordering, so my advice is not to order too much at once... you'll have many more opportunities to get more if still hungry.Service was VERY friendly and attentive. We felt really welcomed. We got our first food quickly. The crab salad was very tasty. I LOVED the black pepper tuna roll, and the Mt Fuji roll was fine (the tuna pieces were better than the salmon ones). Everything tasted fresh. All of us noted that the items labeled as spicy on the menu were not particularly so (unless you have a very sensitive palate). My dining mates really liked their gyoza a lot too as well as the hibachi steak & chicken (note, that was a rather small serving).I was smart not to order too much-- the rolls are LONG. I couldn't even quite finish my two rolls, but my son finished off the last few bites. My wife had to buy some of hers off as leftovers, but they were very generous and undercharged-- it was 8 pieces and they only charged $6.Was it the best sushi I ever had? It was good, but not the best. That said, you wouldn't expect "best" at an AYCE place. I think it was better than conveyer belt sushi like Rockin' Rolls (which is fine). And it's a lot closer to where we live than Mr. Tokyo in Chapel Hill.Overall, I'd come back. It felt "appropriately priced" for what we got, and the service was excellent. If I wanted fancy sushi, this may not be my choice, but good place to go if you're hungry and want a lot of sushi and hibachi. Again, don't over-order-- go slow, and enjoy the experience."
"Alie Hibachi & Sushi is a new spot that has opened up in Morrisville. My mom and I stopped in for lunch and had a good experience. It was the hibachi chicken lunch special for me, the hibachi filet mignon lunch special for her and the spring rolls to split. I do not eat sushi but it is also an option. The service was great, the portions were filling and the food was delicious. I can't wait to return for lunch again soon."
"It's been wayyyy too long since we've been to this gem in downtown Raleigh. Popped in on Saturday night without reservations, but had no problem getting our choice of bar seats or a high top in that area. We chose the bar and settled in for great service and fantastic food.I had a refreshing Battle Royale. This beer/whiskey drink went well with our food. Two of us shared a California Roll with Blue Crab along with one of their specialty rolls, the Umi Kazan. We loved them both and followed them up with a shared order of Pork Dumplings. Excellent dumplings. Even the dipping sauce was on another level.Loved our bartender as well. And for the quality, prices were very reasonable!"
"Yum! Perfect Gyoza! Original (pork) for me. Seafood & Chicken for Husband.Seaweed salad side for me. Rice for Husband. Each order of gyoza comes with choice of two sauces, as well as the choice of side. Perfectly seared, fillings full of flavor, dipping sauces delicious. I liked the seaweed salad too. Rice was rice...I didn't realize I should have added the seeds at the truck for Husband, so he was a bit disappointed that his rice didn't have any as pictured on their website. My bad. Husband almost went back for a second order. That's how much he liked it.Note: you order, pay and are given a pager and told it will be around ten minutes. It didn't take quite that long. Extra credit for wearing masks."
"We visited the restaurant for the first time and had a great experience. The restaurant is beautiful and the staff are all very nice. We did the grill side and the chef did a great job. The food was great and they kept our glasses full the entire time. We will be back for sure!"
"We arrived on a busy Friday night and weee seated promptly. Waitress was super nice and efficient. We had our drinks and salads and sushi came in just the right amount of wait time. Sushi was fresh, delicious, just the right sized pieces, perfect ratio of rice to fish. It was outstanding. We will certainly keep returning to this local gem."
"I give Sushi Suyu 3.5 stars rounded up to 4. If this restaurant was located in a bigger metropolitan area, like Atlanta, I'd give it a solid 3 ("OK"). For the Triangle, it's good, but not great like M Sushi in Durham and Sushi Mon in Raleigh. That said, I don't regret making the 25-minute drive from Chapel Hill to Apex to try it.Sushi Suyu is located in historic downtown Apex. The town is lucky to have this place. If it wasn't for this restaurant, I'm not sure my wife, friend, and I would've ever "gone out" in Apex. My friend, who's lived in Raleigh for many years, had never been to Apex until we dined here. The downtown area is small and quaint, what you'd expect of an old North Carolina town. The commercial part spans only a couple blocks. It's nice to walk around.Sushi Suyu shares a building and small parking lot with other businesses. The lot only has nine spaces. There is, however, plenty of free parking down adjacent Templeton St and around the corner, in the back, on Temple St. We parked for free in the public parking lot across the street, at N Salem St and Seaboard St, next to the fire station. We visited on a Monday around 6:15pm. The place was busy when we arrived. At one point, I think every table was taken and one or two parties had to wait. At the time of our visit, the restaurant catered to walk-ins and accepted a very limited number of reservations. We were walk-ins and were seated immediately. The restaurant isn't huge, but it's spacious enough. An outdoor, umbrella-covered, string-lit patio is available when weather permits. Inside, there's a small five-seat sushi bar in the back. The dining room is partitioned into a few different spaces. The interior design is simple and clean-looking. Tables are placed closely together. The atmosphere is casual.I found out about Sushi Suyu after seeing one of my Instagram friends' stories with the restaurant's "sushi ladder." "Sushi ladder" is how it was described to me. They're actually more like "sushi stairs." It's gimmicky, but it works for the business because it looks great on social media and draws new people in (like me). On the menu, it's called the Nigiri Moriawase (assorted nigiri) 10-piece chef's choice platter ($32).The 10 pieces I got were tuna, salmon, beet salmon, yellowtail, red snapper, amberjack, scallop, squid, surf clam, and eel. Surf clam was the only thing I didn't see on the regular menu. Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed with my 10-piece because it didn't look as good as the other platters I'd seen on Instagram and Yelp.First, my platter only had five steps instead of six or even 10. Yeah, I know, a trivial thing, but it's part of the fun of ordering this dish. More importantly, the pieces of nigiri I received weren't as high-quality as the ones I'd seen online. For example, most of the pieces I got were plain while the ones I'd seen online had been cut and/or dressed up in particular ways, with way more care and attention to detail. I'm fine with getting "plain" nigiri, but even these plain nigiri - such as the most basic kinds, like tuna and salmon - were simply cheaper quality. Finally, the accouterments I received were less than I expected. Online, I saw wasabi paste, pickled ginger, kizami wasabi, and lime or lemon. All I got was the standard wasabi paste and pickled ginger.Based on pictures I'd seen, including on Sushi Suyu's official Instagram page, I expected the nigiri to be higher-end, but what I actually received was more run-of-the-mill quality. Maybe the night of our visit, the B team was in or maybe the restaurant has changed to using cheaper-quality sushi, I don't know. Anyway, I don't mean to criticize too much. I still enjoyed it. For Apex, this is good. My wife and friend also enjoyed a variety of nigiri, which included a-la-carte orders (e.g., red snapper and amberjack, 2 pieces for $9) and the 6-piece chef's choice platter ($20). If you're wondering what "beet salmon" is, it's beetroot-cured salmon. I was told they cure it in-house.Other items we ordered included Truffle Salmon Carpaccio (seared salmon, fried onions, tobiko, truffle oil, soy mustard, apple aioli; $15), a Trio Plate (tuna, salmon, yellowtail, fried onions, tobiko, apple aioli, soy mustard; $18), Tempura Shrimp ($11) with assorted tempura vegetables, Sweet Spicy Edamame ($6), pan-fried pork Dumplings (6 for $9), a Spicy Tuna Classic Roll ($7), and a Hamachi Fever roll (shrimp tempura, avocado on the inside, seared yellowtail, microgreens, garlic chips, Sriracha aioli, sweet soy on top; $16). Overall, everything was tasty and beautifully presented. They generally do a nice job with the presentation here. Of these other items we ordered, my favorites were the Truffle Salmon Carpaccio and the Trio Plate, both of which were very similar. We also got a K-Pancake with Ice Cream ($9) for dessert. I highly recommend it. It was delicious. Our server was Jess and she was fantastic. Nolan was great too.Sushi Suyu opened in May 2022."
