I ordered the Yams, Brisket plate, Mac & Cheese, Greens, hush puppies, Pulled Smoked Turkey and Baked Beans. Bayyybayyyeee!!! When I the food is hitting it's on point. It is legit the best BBQ I've had in my life and the side Zelle not to be played with either. The yams are yams'n and the Mac & Cheese is cheese'n everything is superb. The staff is supper welcoming even let me sample everything being it was my first time the and being an out of towner. For everything I bought it was very affordable and I wish I could have bought more to fly home with it's so good, but I have it all figured out for next time lol. I will definitely be back here real some as I'm planning another trip back to North Carolina."

Mel T. "Our party of 9 came in on a Friday night at around 6. We were originally quoted a wait time of an hour but luckily, they were able to seat us within 10 minutes. For the table, we ordered:-Fried Green Tomatoes - this came with six slices, some feta cheese sprinkled on top, and a dipping sauce. They were good but it didn't feel that hot, which is something I would expect from a fried food-Southern Mac (pimento cheese & bacon & topped with cheddar & mozzarella cheese) - this is definitely a good sharing dish. I can't imagine eating a whole thing of this by myself because after a few bites, I was already feeling pretty weighed down. I normally don't love pimento cheese, but it wasn't too overpowering here-Parmesan Brussels Sprouts - I enjoyed these. For some reason, I can never make brussels sprouts at home as good as they do in restaurants. Maybe their secret is just a ton of butter-Hot Honey Brussels Sprouts - I liked these even better since the hot honey gave it a bit of a kick, and it came with bacon bitsFor my entrée, I had the Shrimp & Grits (lightly spicy shrimp sautéed with bacon & green onion over cheddar cheese grits--served with grilled ciabatta bread). They give you a generous portion of shrimp, which was perfectly cooked, and a heap of bacon. If you need a meal to put you into a food coma, this is it. The grits are cheesy and buttery. It was good but very rich. I was only able to eat half before I had to throw in the towel and get the rest to go. I reheated the leftovers the next day, and it was still pretty good.We were all stuffed but still wanted to try the Chocolate Chess Pie, so we got one slice of that to share. It reminded me a fudge pie. A little too sweet for me.As expected with Southern cooking, the food is pretty heavy. Instead of one person ordering an entrée, I would recommend just ordering a bunch of different things to share, so you get more of a variety. And you're not stuck eating a whole thing of mac and cheese by yourself."

Daniel B. "Mateo Bar de Tapas is a very good tapas restaurant and one of the best, if not the best, tapas restaurants in the Triangle.Mateo opened in August 2012 and is from the same folks behind Mothers & Sons Trattoria next door (opened June 2016). Both restaurants provide a fun, "elevated casual" night out in Durham. If I had to pick between the two, I'd go with Mateo.Mateo doesn't have dedicated parking. For this visit, we parked behind the restaurant in one of our go-to lots: 111 W Chapel Hill St. At the time, parking in this lot cost $2.25 per hour, Monday-Friday, 8am-7pm. We visited Mateo after 7, so our parking was free. This restaurant is popular. You should book reservations well in advance. Mateo is on OpenTable and awards dining points, which is a plus since not all OpenTable restaurants do.We had a 7:30pm reservation for four on a Thursday. When we showed up, the place was packed. The restaurant has a nice design, floor to ceiling, with two levels of indoor dining. There's no outdoor seating. Mateo has a long bar with distinct, giant Edison pendant lighting. The atmosphere was loud (but not too loud) and lively at the beginning of our meal. By the time we left, around 9:45pm, the place had emptied out and was more mellow.Food-wise, there were well over 20 selections of tapas (both regular menu items plus specials) and other Spanish cuisine like jamon (dry-cured ham), paella, and whole fish a la plancha (pan grilled). Drink-wise, they had cocktails, beer, cider, wine, and vermouth. Below is a list of what we ordered. It should give you a good idea of what the menu has to offer and pricing.Cocteles* Rhubarb Revival ($15) - Reposado tequila, rhubarb, Montenegro, lemon, Crude fig and orange bitters* Pepino x2 ($16 each) - Conniption dry gin, Alley Twenty Six tonic syrup, cucumber, salineSangria* Cheerwine Sangria x2 ($12 each) - red wine, seasonal fruit, brandy, CheerwineTapas* Datiles ($10) - goat cheese stuffed dates, crispy serrano ham, romesco* Queso Frito ($13) - fried farm egg and manchego, romesco, lion's mane mushrooms* Patatas Bravas ($10) - crispy potatoes, brava sauce, aioli espuma* Boquerones ($12) - Spanish anchovies, vinagreta, avocado puree, potato chips* Remolacha ($14) - beet goat cheese mousse, spring onion, citrus roasted beets, benne brittle* Bok Choy ($13) - chili crisp, fried garlic puree, pork belly furikake* Almejas ($16) - NC littleneck clams, shallots, garlic, guajillo chilis, jamon, boiled peanuts* Pulpo a la Plancha ($16) - octopus, romesco verde, new potatoes, black garlic aioli, spring vegetables* Marrow ($18) - roasted bone marrow, short rib marmalade, radish, pickled mushrooms, toasted baguette* Panceta de Cerdo ($16) - ginger tamari glazed pork belly, cauliflower puree, mustard greens, crispy garlic and shallot, fried cauliflowerEspeciales* Calabaza a la Plancha ($14) - Lyon's Farm zucchini and summer squash, stewed tomatoes, garlic bread crumbsDulces* Banana Pudding ($9) - pecan wafers, PX cream, toasted meringue* Basque Cheesecake ($10) - peach compote, Graham cracker streusel, peaches and cream cloudThe cocktails were tasty and creative. My wife absolutely loved the Pepino. It was refreshing, balanced, almost savory, and not sweet. My friend and I enjoyed our Cheerwine Sangrias. I recommend it for a unique, local twist. When it came to the food, we found the dishes to be equally satisfying, fresh, and delicious. The presentation was beautiful all around as well. The Datiles was a solid variation of stuffed dates. I liked the Queso Frito more than my wife, who thought it was just alright. She and my friend loved the Patatas Bravas. The outside was crispy, the inside was piping hot and tender, and the aioli enhanced everything. I really liked the Boquerones. It was one of my favorite dishes. It was like elevated salt and vinegar chips, with anchovies. The portions were too small, though. The Remolacha was yummy and the plating made it look like a work of art. Both the Bok Choy and the special Calabaza a la Plancha served as good side vegetables. They were light and cut through the heaviness of the other dishes. We couldn't get enough of the Almejas broth and ordered more bread to eat with it (no charge). Not enough bread came with it to begin with. The Pulpo a la Plancha was well made and well presented. I also recommend the Marrow. There was a generous portion of marrow. It was rich and gratifying -- exactly what you want out of a bone marrow dish. The Panceta de Cerdo was fantastic. The pork and cauliflower balanced each other out. The cauliflower puree was so good that our other friend asked if they could bring us a bowl of just that (they couldn't).Save room for dessert because the two we got - the Banana Pudding and the Basque Cheesecake - were both outstanding. The "PX cream" in the Banana Pudding refers to Pedro Ximenez Spanish dessert sherry. Both of the desserts were creamy and delectable.Service was A+. Kayl rocked."

I really appreciated the chef's innovative pairings in the surf & turf (lamb chops & diver scallops). The chef did a phenomenal job with the grilled mahi as well. The parking lot has plenty of parking in their private lot. The menu options are great! I ordered the Grain Salad with a Crab Cake and it was DELICIOUS!!! I wouldn't not have even imagined that putting all of the different flavors together would end up complimenting each other so well. I am allergic to pecans and there wasn't a single one on there once I asked for them to be withheld from the dish. Everyone in the group truly enjoyed their meal. This is a good old-fashioned diner with many local patrons serving up Southern hospitality at its finest. I ordered the 2 egg breakfast with sausage patty, grits (of course) and biscuits. This was my first time I ever tried red eye gravy. Think of it as a savory salty unami flavor similar to coconut amino acids. A light sprinkling of it on grits was perfect. We had not just one fluffy biscuit but two per order! Enough to take home and it still tastes great the next morning. Plus, we tried the fatbacks which are similar to pork rinds. Yum! But since Lee's Kitchen is so known and popular in Raleigh and I've never had it, I had to give it a try anyways. Let me start off by saying ubereats and the Lee's Kitchen app both miss a lot of menu items (turkey wings, beef patties, etc.) so if what you want is on there you're lucky but we weren't able to order ahead because of this. The food is really delicious, decent prices, big portions, and hot food. We got turkey wings, white rice, rice and peas, veggies, oxtails, and Mac n cheese. We enjoyed all of it and finished our plates! The veggies is pretty much just cabbage and the Mac is super good. You can get the turkey wings baked, grilled, fried, smothered, etc. but they said the two most popular were smothered and fried so we did smothered. The only complaint we had was that the turkey wing plate didn't have a lot of rice (we thought there'd be more under the wings but it was just that corner.) But what gets them the 5 stars is the food and the sauces. The whole hog pulled pork tastes good without any sauce on it. The true test of a BBQ place. Too bad they don't have a 2 meat option or I would have tried the brisket too. Well, along with the tasty pulled pork, all the sauces tasted good too. And I've never said that. Usually a couple or one tastes good but all hit the mark here. You'll have to try them to judge. They also don't get the 5 stars unless the sides are really good too. Very flavorful collards. I had to inform the front host station I would wait at the bar. Very standoffish behaviors towards customers as the first individuals to interact with me before being seated. This was odd. Later on, I received a text that my reservation was canceled. I sat down at the bar. Will immediately acknowledged me as well as other servers nearby. My cocktails were the highlight here.Gin mule was refreshing. Great balance. French 75 was perfection! Will is a great bartender who checked in often. I tried the Cavier of the South. Pimento cheese is an all-time favorite, so it was a hit for me. The sweet chili buffalo sauce added a different but really good flavor to this dish. For my entree, I had the Bayou Bay Catfish with rice and spinach. This was not as expected. The flavors were a more overly seasoned and more salty and less buttery-spicy flavor that is expected for blackened. I typically don't need lemon with my fish, but perhaps adding a lemon to this dish would help neutralize the saltiness. Overall, not much to write home about here when it comes to this dinner (food) for me. I appreciate the chef coming out and being receptive to the feedback I provided on the taste of my food. Their pancakes at breakfast time are the biggest I've seen locally, and their specials menu always hosts a plethora of cozy dishes (my favorite being the honey mustard chicken). When my grandparents were alive and my grandmother worked at the nearby hospital, we would meet them when I was a child so being able to visit with my children now gives me warm, nostalgic feelings. You have your choice of a buffet or sit down order. I did the sit down, ordering a Country Fried Steak. I sort of knew that at $8.99 they couldn't make it all that good and they didn't. The sauce had been more than liberally doused with white pepper and had the consistency and texture of wall paper paste. Looking around I'd say half the patrons are truckers with the other half being tourists or travelers who have pulled in to fuel up.
