"Great NC BBQ place in downtown Raleigh.Casual comfort and bit classy interior. The food was Soo good.Had appetizer sampler and big boy plate, three of us could not finish it. Had to do take out for a good portion.Chopped pork was amazing, we could tell a lot of love went into the smoking and prep. From so many to pick from, the Pit got our vote."
"Quick tip: call in your order during popular lunch or dinner times especially since there's not much parking or room to wait inside. Jack's has always been one of my Raleigh favorites. I love so many of their menu items and honestly have never had a bad meal. They have many a couple of changes like there's an increase in cost when you pay with card instead of cash and they charge for refills. With the increase in supplies and food cost I'm not surprised by these changes. When it comes to real soul food Jacks will always be my go to. Their sides are flavorful and they don't use pork to season them."
"12/29/2022-This was my first time trying this spot. If you're not familiar with the area you may miss it. It's located within a strip of stores, if not mistaken it's beside a laundromat and barbershop/nail salon. The food wasn't bad but first glance it's looks very oily but it was very flavorful. This was my first time trying egusi (chicken) and fufu. The restaurant was undergoing cosmetic changes and from what I could see it's going to be very nice. They had a couple hand painting the artwork on the wall which was very beautiful along with much talent. The staff is very friendly and didn't mind asking questions for items you are not familiar with. The prices are kind of high but then again you're paying for authentic made to order food. Once I ordered it took about 15 minutes or so to prepare but I was happy it was fresh. The menu offers a wide variety of entrees, appetizers, and drinks. Some of the drinks look freshly made. If I have the taste for egusi I definitely know where to go."
"OMG, we loved Kings - definitely a must stop if you're in the area.I ordered a couple of Chix Thighs that came with one of their delicious Cat Head Cheese biscuits, also a side of Hush Puppies and a small Sweet Potato Pie.Super nice staff, huge menu and delicious southern food. Everything was so yummy and definitely the best sweet potato pie I've ever had. So yep, we'll be back, next time we're in NC."
"Very good and not too far from95. I had a craving for fried chicken and it was satisfying. Waitress gave me an extra side for free. I'll be back. There's a buffet & table service."
"My fave buffet spot in town. I had the opportunity to go yesterday. Oh man I've missed this place. I started with a salad. The red onions were pungent as they should be. So good. Then I went for my veggie plate and my meat plate. The cabbage and the turnips so yummy!!!! I wish they had some fresh fried chicken. The popcorn shrimp and chopped bbq was good. I go to buffets for the smorgasbord of veggies and nothings different with Fuller's. The corn of the cob was so sweet. Can't wait to go back. The butter beans. Everything."
"I love discovering new restaurants! After getting my brows done I noticed this amazing spot. Soul food and Caribbean food in one location. They offer wings, fish, tenders, jerk chicken and so many yummy sides. Prices are very affordable and you get a lot of food for the price. Service is amazing. The food is cooked to order so call ahead or plan to wait. The food is fresh and flavorful and pretty darn good! The Mac and cheese is moist and cheesy. Just how I like it. The inside is clean and sleeked. I can't wait to try other menu items!"

The portions were huge! We really enjoyed the pit sampler to get a taste of everything. The pit sampler included pit smoked wings, BBQ soul rolls, deviled eggs, and pimento cheese balls. They also bring out hush puppies and biscuits as complimentary apps. The double combo was perfect to share. We got the brisket and the chopped BBQ. I would get the brisket again, but the chopped BBQ was too dry for my liking. The sides we got were delicious. It was fried Okra and Sweet Potato casserole. Service was awesome! Very attentive.

Definitely a more low key place. Parking lot isn't too big but should be fine. I think people were calling in their orders. There were quite a few people on a weekday night. Probably a 15-20 min wait after placing orders. You could eat there but it's very limited seating against the window. More of a carry out place.Got the smothered pork chops. Comes with 2 sides: did Mac and cheese and cole slaw. Also comes with 3 hush puppies. It's a biggg portion for sure and made it into 2 meals. The menu says $12.99 but They added an extra $1 for smothered? Not sure on that... the Mac and cheese was not that good though. Looks like I got the bottom of the pan part. Cole slaw was decent. Pork chop itself had good flavor. Might be the first time that I had smothered pork chops...Would come back again and try some other things.

Exceptional customer service, food, and vibes!Hady's is a beautiful restaurant with a warm ambiance. There are handpainted colorful African inspired murals on the walls throughout the entire inside, and plenty of comfy booths and tables for seating. The owner and his staff are very kind, polite, and knowledgeable about the dishes, they will answer any questions you have, so don't be shy about asking for a recommendation or explanation of what something is if you're new to the menu. The food is made with love, cooked with care, made fresh to order and comes out in a timely manner. Do yourself a favor and come with an empty stomach so you can truly enjoy all that Hady's has to offer. My recommendation is the lamb, oxtails, vermicelli, rice and peas with macaroni and cheese. The oxtails are small to medium in size, slow cooked in thick gravy with meat that falls off the bone! The rice and vermicelli are cooked to perfection, fluffy and soft. The macaroni and cheese is seasoned, very cheesy and delicious. They have all your favorite traditional African and Caribbean style beverages, including ginger based and fresh juice options, as well as sodas, and water. Free parking is available in front of the restaurant, 10/10 would recommend & return!

Made the drive to Washington to try this famous local spot - the building itself is pretty rundown, parking spots a bit limited. You order at the window and wait to hear your name hollered. The young lady that placed our order was not friendly. Period. Borderline rude and made it pretty clear she didn't want to be at work. Onto the food - the fried chicken was good, the corn nuggets very yummy. Didn't care for the potato salad. The yellow cake with chocolate frosting was average, didn't finish it. Not sure we'd eat here again.

My grandfather had his 96th bday dinner here. Service was good. Buffet just $15, can't beat that. Plenty of food on the buffet such as fish, fried chicken, popcorn shrimp, mashed potatoes, biscuits, rolls, fruit, dessert etc. I'm not a fan of buffets but the folks in my party liked the food. Oddly enough didn't see a lot of bbq. Laid back casual atmosphere.

My friend saw this place on TikTok and wanted to try it since we were in the area - And honestly, she had me sold at fried ribs!!We walked in and the line moved pretty quick, we were greeted by the friendly cashier who was so nice and great at making recommendations! This is a black owned business and boy have they hit mark with customer service! Love to see it!!I asked what was her favorite items on the menu and she mentioned a few things one of which was oxtail so I decided to go with that, and also ordered wings for the boy's and fried ribs to take home. They had delicious side choices and such a variety that it was hard to choose. For each meal you can choose either 1 side or two. I selected mashed potatoes, turkey greens, Mac n cheese, Candied yams. They were all delicious and the yams in my opinion were just okay, I felt like they were a little more firm than I like and were a bit under seasoned (not as sweet), however my friend loved them that way - So, I guess it depends on your palette. My friend ordered the fried ribs and a bunch of sides which were - potatoe salad, fried okra, white rice with oxtail gravy, turkey greens and the yams. She loved all her sides and stated the greens were just okay - I happened to really enjoy the greens. Listen, we sat at our table by the window and patiently waited for our names to be called. This place isn't that big, they are four seater tables and very limited room, so I can see them filling up pretty quickly on a busy night, I didn't like that they had the heat on because it gets really warm really quick in small spaces. Conversations also overlap each other as again the space is tight, but clean and efficient! "Order for Stephanie" - I grabbed my food that was staked nicely and placed in a black plastic bag, the food is served in Styrofoam to go containers but we decided to dine in cause we were hungry. I did not get to photograph the food because we all sat at that tiny table and inhaled almost all of it! The food was fresh, seasoned to perfection and just oh so delicious! The oxtail - 10/10 - Seasoned to perfection, tender fall off the bones, served over a bed of rice and beans and plantains, this was in addition to the two other sides it came with, all for about $24 which in my opinion is a steal. The fried ribs - 8/10 - These were also seasoned to perfection and served with a carolina sauce, the meat was tender and falling off the bones. $16+ tax with two sides. The fried chicken wings - 10/10 - When asked about the wings my 7yr old said "Thumbs Up Mom". - They were beautifully golden brown and fried to perfection! He also really enjoyed the mashed potatoes. We also ordered dessert, my friend had the birthday cake with sprinkles and I had the strawberry cake! Both were outstanding! I managed to take a photo of the remnants of my strawberry cake...So happy we got to try this spot out, Support this black business! Friendly staff, clean establishment, fast service, fresh delicious food that tastes like it was made with love, go get you some!

I ordered through DoorDash and one of the two things I ordered was not even available. I ended up getting fried chicken, cabbage, and black-eyed peas. Fried chicken was seasoned with what appears/tastes like yellow pre-packaged seasoning (Goya Sazon? Who knows). The fried chicken at Lowe's food is way better. The sides were very under-seasoned. Even the bun that came with the meal was old and hard. I really like to support them because they're local, but they have to step it up to compete.

"3/1/24: We saw the soul food sign and immediately knew we had to stop. I was craving yams & this was our first time ever hearing about this place. The cashier was so sweet. Their menu was plentiful. We ended up ordering wings/fries and fish/Mac and cheese/yams. All of the items that should've been crispy were soggy! That was the first thing that turned me off. My wings were not fried with flour and also had no taste on top of their sogginess. So, my fiancé ate them along with his soggy fish. He is greedy and eats anything. Nothing bothers him. So, I ended up eating the soggy fries and leaving unsatisfied. They have homemade desserts that I wanted to try initially, but after the disappointing food, I didn't want to waste my money on the cake. They cut hefty slices thought. If I go back, I may try the cake. They also have chicken livers, so I may try that next time as well."
"I ordered the turkey BBQ sandwich with fries from this spot and it was delicious. I dogged every last bit on my plate. I stopped eating pork for awhile now and my cousin told me about this place for some turkey BBQ. We had just left Smithfield BBQ so I was definitely hyped about my turkey BBQ after smelling my cousins food, lol. We went through drive-thru and the staff were very friendly and the servce was fast. As soon as I left the drive-thru I was about to check in via Yelp and was shocked at all the negative reviews. I was too embarrassed to check in, lol. I prayed on the way to my cousin house that the food would be good. Honey, when I bit into that first piece I started doing the happy dance. That turkey BBQ sandwich was delicious! It was juicy and reminded me of the pork version a little. I didn't get the cole slaw but when I added a little hot sauce to it, it gave it that final kick. I ordered a side of fries with no salt and they were also delicious. Iam so happy I didn't check the reviews first because I might not have given this spot a chance. I definitely will return here for another turkey BBQ, oh and to try some of their wings. My cousin said the wings she's ordered from here were good and she's never had any issues. Sometimes you just have to ignore the reviews and check places and foods out for yourself. Lol"
"My annual go to spot when I'm traveling through North Carolina. On my most recent stop here I had been working a photography run on US-158 with another photographer and said "Hey, I know where we're going for lunch". We pulled into the gravel parking lot and walked up to the counter. I already knew what I wanted while my friend looked over the menu. We both ended up getting Bacon Cheeseburgers and Onion Rings with a soda. My burger was as good as it always is and my friend was duly impressed with his a well. I did notice the onion rings had changed since last year. Previously when I had them they were hand made. These appeared to have been frozen from a bad. They were still good. I love to slather my onion rings in mustard and that's exactly what I did. I'm looking forward to another visit at Burger Barn soon. Real soon, in fact right after everything is back to business as normal I'll be taking a trip down to Lewiston, NC. Guess what's on the way!!!"
"A great comfort food restaurant. It is cafeteria style, with daily specials. They have plenty of sides to choose from. I had meatloaf with mac and cheese and cabbage. Everything was great. I can't wait to go back."
"7/30/22: Visited for this location for the first time today. It's nestled in a little, busy shopping center off of Rock Quarry Rd. next to Pizza Hut. There is plenty of parking in the lot. There is nowhere to sit inside the restaurant. All of the chairs are piled on top of the tables. It is completely carry out at this time. There's a sign that said "Masks Required", but they don't enforce it. There were many people standing inside the restaurant without one on, so...The cashier was friendly. The food came out quickly. I just don't understand why the fries were already soggy. Also, the yams tasted watery. The popcorn shrimp, smothered pork chop, and fried chicken was good though. I'd definitely go back..."
"What a great pit stop on the way home from the beach. Friendly service Food was comforting and delicious It felt very nostalgic, the diners I ate at when I was young. Lots of locals and families!! Wish I could have tried the lunch menu too. It looked yummy. Prices were not bad at all."
"Really good food, loved the seasonings, and the texture. Everything was good, even the leftovers!"
"Well...every place can't be a winner! My family shared they wanted me to sample the food at this establishment..so I was down to see what Heart & Soul was all about!Sadly, I was disappointed in many of the items offered: ox tails (fatty); yams (bland); collard green (not bad); baked beans (so-so); wingettes (not cooked long enough & sauce added afterwards & saved the ribs for last (very tender..but they should bake the sauce in vs. adding sauce afterwards) IMHO!I am hopeful that maybe the other offerings are cooked with more love and seasoning!"
"Dear Raleigh Yelpers: Be amazed that I went to a new locally owned business and reviewed it first!Having received an email with a menu with items such as fish and spaghetti, chicken and waffle, and shrimp, turkey wings, porkchops, chicken, and/or fish with grits . . . well I had to give it a try.The business has been open for about three weeks. I arrived for lunch around 11 a.m. - and I was THE lunch customer! I ordered the smothered chicken and grits - fried white meat chicken over grits with gravy. Any southerner knows you have to do grits rights, and this place nailed it! No little cup of grits - it covered the plate and were done perfectly. The chicken was tender and juicy. Wonderful presentation as well on a red squared plate. The sweet iced tea was made from some concentrate - you could tell it wasn't brewed tea. The serving time was about 30 minutes. I would suggest that if they want to have a steady lunch business they may want to have a simplified lunch menu with fewer choices so folks can get in and out on their lunch hours.Lovely facility. Lots of red and black in the design. Second floor has VIP booths and another bar with an aquarium. The lounge I believe is open after 10 pm on weekends."
