Mel T. "My husband's family lives in the area, and they love this bakery. I've been a few times, and I still don't get the hype. The pastry items are over-priced, and they just aren't that good. Most of the things I've tried taste like they're already a day old, and there are always flies hovering around them. On this most recent trip, I didn't get any baked goods but I was seeking an iced coffee. I asked if they had decaf iced coffee. The cashier asked if I meant a decaf iced latte. Sure, I'll take whatever decaf iced drink they have. For a moment, I thought I was still ordering the coffee so I asked if they could put milk in it. I was met with a bit of an attitude, and a "well, a latte already has milk in it." Kind of annoying but whatever. The latte itself was $5.40, which was definitely not worth it for the quality or the experience. Plus, the lines are all out of whack. Is it one or two lines? Nobody knows.Next time the family comes back, I'm just going to sit this one out."

I was greeted when I arrived and seated right by one of the doors so it was cold at my seat and I noticed most of the other patrons had kept their jackets on. For some reason the door wasn't shut completely either. Service was friendly at first and my order came out fairly quickly but it was so slow to get the check. Groups that came in after me that had a different server left long before I received my check. There was a wait to get a seat at the restaurant by this point too. It was rather empty when I arrived. You'd think they'd want to turn over the tables. The tables did not seem too clean either.I went with the sweet potato waffle; a chicken cutlet and blueberry schmear. When it was brought out I could tell the chicken was overcooked. It wasn't just mine as I looked at what the other tables were getting. I didn't taste the sweet potato at all. I did like the blueberry schmear. I don't see myself returning here for a meal again."

I wish this place had pour over but they have a drip light roast with hints of melon that I really liked. The spicy chicken biscuit sandwich is a must. Seriously I'm not exaggerating it's the best breakfast biscuit I've ever had with tangy pickles and jam. Everything was $17 including a scone with my sister. Daniel B. "Top of the Hill Restaurant & Brewery, also known as "TOPO," is a UNC and Chapel Hill institution. TOPO is located atop the intersection of Franklin and Columbia Streets, the epicenter of big Carolina basketball postgame celebrations, in the heart of downtown Chapel Hill. This place is busy and popular year-round and especially during Carolina basketball and football seasons. My wife and her co-residents tried to come here to watch the 2022 Final Four game between Carolina and Duke (Coach K's last game), but it was full so they went to Linda's up the street instead.TOPO has been a regular dinner spot for my wife and her co-residents during her four years in Chapel Hill. When she brought me here for dinner, there was another group of residents and attendings on the patio. We arrived just before 6pm on a Thursday (non-game night) and were able to snag one of the high-top tables that overlooked Franklin Street. It was nice. I can't think of any other restaurants or bars in Chapel Hill that have as good of a city view, so this place definitely has that going for it.TOPO is also a versatile spot, functioning more as a sit-down restaurant during the daytime and more as a bar Thursday-Saturday nights (open until 2am those nights). This is a brewpub; they brew their own beer on-site. TOPO has multiple award-winning brews, a few of which are noted below. Along with beer, they have a full bar serving several different types of cocktails ($8-16 each) including a variety of mules ($8 each). The cuisine is American. During our dinner visit, most apps, salads, sandwiches, and bowls were priced in the $10-15 range and most entrees were about $15-30 each. Here's what we got:Beer* Beer Sampler ($13) - five-ounce pours of all of TOPO's six draft beers' Kenan Lager - Best in Show, Carolina Championship of Beer' Bell Tower Blueberry Wheat - Platinum Medal, World Championship of Beer' Old Well White - Platinum Medal, World Championship of Beer' Quite Right IPA' Alma Mater Amber Ale' Blackwood Mountain StoutStarters* Jalapeno-Cheddar Hushpuppies (6 for $6.99) - cornmeal hushpuppies with jalapeno, cheddar cheese and buttermilk, served with white cocktail sauceEntrees* Buttermilk Fried Chicken ($18.50) - locally-sourced crispy fried breast with mushroom cream gravy topped with diced tomatoes and scallions, mashed potatoes, garlic-sauteed French beans, and a buttermilk biscuit* TOPO Whiskey & Coke Braised Beef ($23.99) - boneless beef short rib slow-braised in a Whiskey & Coke sauce with roasted vegetables and mashed potatoesIf you've never been to TOPO before, the Beer Sampler is a great way to go. You can sample all of TOPO's draft list without committing to a full glass. When we visited, there were six beers on tap, regularly $6-8 per serving. The sampler came with a neat and informative placemat menu. It had a description of each beer along with tasting notes. My wife's favorites were the Quite Right IPA followed by the Bell Tower Blueberry Wheat. I thought all six beers tasted good and I didn't have a favorite. It was a three-way tie between the Kenan Lager, Old Well White, and Alma Mater Amber Ale, all of which were very different. I guess what I'm saying is you really can't go wrong with any of the in-house beers here.My wife recommended the Jalapeno-Cheddar Hushpuppies. She likes them because both their texture and flavor stand out. I agree - they were tasty and addictive. The Jalapeno-Cheddar Hushpuppies are one of the apps that she and her co-residents like to order and share. Others they like to get include the Lizard Chips ($9.50), which are sliced dill pickles and jalapenos deep-fried in TOPO beer batter and served with a "Baja" dipping sauce, and the Sweet Potatoes & Peppadew Pepper Jelly ($11.99), which are sweet potato fries with a cream cheese and pepper jelly. The entrees that we got, the Buttermilk Fried Chicken and the TOPO Whiskey & Coke Braised Beef, are TOPO classics. The fried chicken is an entree that one of my wife's attendings, who has been in Chapel Hill for decades, usually orders. It was yummy. Crispy, tender, and not too greasy. I liked the mushroom cream gravy and I thought both it and the green beans went well with the chicken. The braised beef was hearty and satisfying. I thought the meat was a little dry, but it was flavorful. I do recommend both of these dishes if you want to try what TOPO "is known for."Service was good, from the hostesses up front to our server, Coale. All the staff we interacted with were polite and efficient, and everything we ordered came out in a reasonable amount of time.We parked for free in a paved lot behind the restaurant. You can enter the lot via a small driveway on S Columbia St between TOPO and the Ackland Art Museum. TOPO is located on the third floor (highest floor).TL;DR version - I give TOPO four stars not for any one reason, but for the whole experience as a brewpub with a good view, good service, good drinks, and decent food."

As you walk in the front door, pay attention to the left. There is a small hostess station. A sign will tell you whether you should seat yourself or wait to be seated. Once you are either given a table or find a table, grab a menu and order at the counter. They have seating inside and out. I imagine if you come during a time where you seat yourself, you will need to find a way to claim your table somehow while you order your food. Luckily we were seated. They provide silverware and napkins at the counter after you order. I ordered the Rise and Shine breakfast. It came with eggs. I chose pork sausage, grits and a biscuit. The eggs were cooked perfectly. The sausage was delicious. The grits were the highlight of the meal. The biscuit was not as fluffy as I expected it to be. My daughter said her French toast was amazing. I know it was good, because she came home and told the rest of our family about it. The French toast was very thick, topped with fresh strawberries and the maple syrup enhanced the taste. They had to-go soups and desserts ready behind the counter. What a lovely place. Daniel B. "Herons was amazing. It lived up to the hype. This is one of my top two restaurants in the Triangle. The other is Fearrington House in Pittsboro. When it comes to fine dining, these are among the best in North Carolina. That said, they're expensive and not everyday restaurants. (For "everyday" restaurants in the Triangle, a couple of my top picks are M Sushi in Durham and Tesoro in Carrboro). My wife preferred Herons to Fearrington House. For me, it's a push. She thought Herons had both better food and service. Food-wise, she thought the dishes at Herons were better composed and balanced. Service-wise, she felt the staff at Herons, from our bartender to the hostess to our server and the food runners, were warmer and provided more seamless service. Regardless, both places deliver exceptional dining experiences.I've dined at six Michelin-star restaurants to date (I'm not saying that to humble-brag, I'm saying it to give context) and I think Herons is Michelin-star quality. It's on that level. When the Michelin Guide hit Atlanta in 2023, I correctly predicted several of the restaurants that got stars. While the Michelin Guide hasn't covered North Carolina yet, Herons still has impressive accolades. I saw 2024 Forbes Travel Guide Five Stars and 2020 AAA Five Diamond awards during our visit.Herons is located inside the Umstead Hotel and Spa, a luxury hotel and spa situated just off I-40 exit 287 (Harrison Ave). For parking, you can use the hotel valet or self-park for free in the dedicated lot off Woodland Pond Dr.Use OpenTable to book your reservation. Unlike Fearrington House, which I also booked via OpenTable, Herons awarded dining points. I used OpenTable's messaging system to communicate with Herons staff and make a change to our reservation. It worked well.Herons serves breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. My wife and I had a 7pm reservation on a Saturday. We showed up early and had drinks at the Umstead's Bar & Lounge. It was really nice (the entire property was) and set the tone for what turned into a magnificent evening. The Bar & Lounge was busy before and after our dinner. The Umstead is a happening place. For dinner, we went with Herons' standard four-course prix fixe dinner at $170 per person. For comparison, four courses at Fearrington House was $150 per person. Both offer $100 drink/wine pairings and supplements for certain courses. Both also offer more elaborate tasting menus. At Herons, it's the "Art Tour," consisting of 8-15 courses at $250 per person. We got to choose from 4-5 selections for each course. My wife and I chose different things for each course so we could try many dishes. Here's what we got:Cocktails* Lilac ($16) - Cathead vodka, creme de violette, blueberry, lychee, yuzu* Ruby cocktail ($16) - Lunazul Reposado, rhubarb, One Oak Farm beets, citrusNon-Alcoholic Infusions* Drinking Vinegars - Strawberry-Basil ($8)Before First* English pea macarons with creme fraiche and Siberian caviar* Buckwheat baguettes and butter from Marietta, GeorgiaFirst * Oyster - poached, Charleston Gold Rice, Champagne Sabayon* Wagyu - asparagus, egg sauce, finger lime, kosho, sauce JaponaiseBefore Second* Chef's play on bacon, eggs and toast; quail eggs, bacon mousse, edible nest* Chive croissants with garlic butterSecond* Egg - 62-degree egg, One Oak grits, mushroom, Iberico ham, shrimp.* Foie Gras ($20 supplement) - strawberries, sudachi, salted Marcona almond creme; Carolina pineberriesBefore Entrees* Duck confit corn dogs, made to look like cattails* Milk bread with honey butterEntrees* Tuna - ossetra, miso, chive, Meyer lemon, brown butter dashi* Beef - two styles (strip steak and short rib), farm carrots, sea buckthorn puree, Shaoxing sauceBefore Dessert* Elderflower pickled rhubarb, lime (and other ingredients I forgot)* French press decaf coffee (large, $9)Dessert* Honey - milk ganache, kataifi, orange blossom, nitro labneh, bee pollen* Cheese - Fromager d'Affinois espuma, air baguette, mostarda, English peasAfter Dessert Gifts* Dark chocolate, yuzu gummies with blueberry centers, housemade Red Hots, and caramelsThe four-course was an "art tour" itself. It was truly a culinary adventure with neat surprises along the way. And for those wondering, we left the restaurant completely stuffed. The timing and attention to detail was almost impeccable. For example, the butters that accompanied the bread courses were consistently themed. The garlic butter that came with the croissants looked like leaves and the honey butter that came with the milk bread looked like honeycomb. The quail eggs in the edible nest and the duck confit corn dog cattails were creative and fun. The 62-degree egg was served in/with wooden bowls and a wooden spoon rest made from fallen trees on the property. The dishes were unique and the flavors and textures were superb. The entire Herons and Umstead staff were terrific, including our fantastic server Mike."

There was a wait.Maybe it was busy because every Monday, bottles of wine are half-off.I tried a couple of the daily specials, the Fried Okra ($8) and Wood Grilled Beef Ribeye ($28), and the Bourbon-Pecan Pie ($8) dessert. Everything was delicious. I was impressed with the quality, especially of the ribeye. I had it medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. The steak was a hearty, 12-ounce cut that came with herb butter on top. It was seasoned well and relatively juicy. No sauce needed. Simply a good, solid, satisfying steak. Also, it came with thick slices of ripe heirloom tomato, full of umami. I thoroughly enjoyed it.The fried okra was nicely-battered and scrumptious. It came with a yummy basil aioli dipping sauce. There was one inedible piece of okra (too chewy), but it wasn't a big deal. The bourbon pecan pie was excellent. It came with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and caramel sauce. I love pecan pie and it didn't get much better than the one I had from here. From taste to consistency, they got just about everything right. The one thing my wife and I didn't taste, though, was the bourbon. Not even a subtle hint of it. Again, not a big deal.My wife also liked the Bruschetta ($8) and Gnocchi ($12) starters. The bruschetta consisted of grilled baguette, fresh mozzarella, local tomatoes, basil, olive oil, and balsamic reduction. The gnocchi was "panned" with Sungold tomatoes, arugula, and shaved Parmesan. There was an option to get the gnocchi with seared scallops ($19). Our friend got the Local Watermelon Salad ($8 small, $11 large), another daily special. It came with cucumber, basil, arugula, and feta with a Sungold tomato vinaigrette. Overall, all of the food was fresh, high-quality, and flavorful. The table also got cocktails and bottles of wine. My wife loved her Carolina Mule cocktail. It was made with Troy & Sons Blonde Whiskey, Spindrift ginger beer, and lime. Troy & Sons is from Asheville Distilling Company. Both the cocktails and the dishes were presented beautifully. Everything tasted as good as it looked.411 West's menu also features wood-fired pizzas, salads, pastas, classic Italian entrees like Chicken Marsala ($19) and Chicken Parmesan ($18), and other plates from their wood-fired grill such as Wood Grilled Organic Salmon ($24) and Wood Grilled Flat Iron Steak ($25).Service was fine. Scott J. "We pulled up to grab a bite to eat, but were met outside with a long line of people waiting for the same thing. However I was blown away about how quick they put the order together! Everything is made fresh to order. Such a great sandwich!"

Laura G. "I love this restaurant. Bright cheerful rooms, tables spaced apart, light shining in windows. Great staff. The best chicken salad and broccoli salad around. Fruit and muffin fresh tasting. I pretend like I'm going to order something else but I just can't. Hands down my favorite lunch."

Mike B. "We were looking to grab some food in the Trinity area before heading home. We did a quick search and saw BBQ Joes has two locations nearby, one in High Point and one in Trinity. The Trinity location has slightly higher Yelp reviews so we read a few of them and noticed many of our Yelp Elite connections recommend and that was enough for us. We arrived about 3pm on a Saturday afternoon. The location is easy to find and convenient to the highway. Located in a stand alone building with plenty of parking. We also noticed they have an additional parking lot which would make it easy for those with trailers, RV's, etc. Both the interior and exterior appear to be well maintained and we were immediately impressed. We approached the counter and were greeted by a young man. He provided us menus to look over and we also noted there is a wall mounted menu which is easy to read. I decided on my typical BBQ order, a pulled pork sandwich with no slaw. I chose Mac n cheese as my side with a bottled water. My wife chose the brisket platter with sweet potato casserole and green beans, the platters also come with hush puppies. We were provided a number for our table and took a seat. While we waited for our food we both used the restroom and both were clean and well stocked. We also couldn't help but notice at least two employees who were deep cleaning the high chairs and garbage can receptacles, it was impressive to see employees going the extra mile! Our food arrived quickly and looked incredibly tasty. My wife noticed she was given baked beans instead of green beans and the young lady who brought our food was quick to bring an order of the green beans. Neither my wife nor I are baked beans people so we just left them on the plate. Of course, my camera ate first and after I took a few pics we dug in. Each and every bite was delicious! The meats were cooked beautifully and the sides were all yummy. We were finishing up and my wife had a decent amount of the brisket left and decided to order an additional half pound of chopped brisket to add to her salads for work throughout the week. She also ordered herself another side of sweet potato casserole and a Mac n cheese for me for lunch at work. A great experience! We will definitely be back and highly recommend to others."

Kierstyn M. "Cute spot, club vibes, lots of photo opportunities. Stopped in here on a Wednesday night. Place was quiet, but I could see this place packed on a Friday or weekend night. Cluby music playing. We were greeted at the door and quickly sat. We got a few drinks and appetizers to start with. The shrimp and chicken skewers are on point. Great flavor, the Chipotle sauce was delicious, and the roasted veggies were perfection. We also got the Peruvian chicken and the chicken sandwich. The chicken sandwich wasn't my fav. Nothing wrong with it, just not my flavor. The Peruvian chicken had great flavor and you got a good serving size. They have new management, new owners and a new chef so if you haven't been in a while it might be time to stop in again."

Ebony M. "Wish I could give them gem 10+ Stars!!! The family and I tried a new business in Burlington. Apparently this is a 96+ year business that has been established in the city for almost a year. They took over the old Steak and Shake. It's s cute 70s style vibe. We were seated immediately....not a huge crowd ! The menu has an array of items to choose from. ** They have the ol school Ne High Grape in a glass bottle!! **Food came out pretty fast - it wasn't an extended wait but just right. My entire family devoured our food and left nothing but cheese sauce on the plates. The hotdogs topped with chili/ cheese/ coleslaw was amazing!! Fries = came with chili and cheese. Amazing!! Kiddos got strawberry milkshakes which they loved!!My husband regretted getting the hotdog and chicken wing combo. He said the wings were good but he wanted another hotdog. Cash Discount if paying by Cash!! We will return!! This is a newer location ....the original location is located downtown Burlington, NC."
