It may not look like much from the outside and rarely has more than a few tables filled at the time, but trust that R House has plenty to offer. Their no nonsense approach to Cantonese fare is solid in a pinch and the prices are a notch below the rest of the competition. Combined with the honey service and divey vibes, this is the kind of Chinatown spot that I've come to appreciate.Another reason to love it? They're usually open late. I am typically here in the wee hours and appreciate the fact they have enough tables for big groups and then some. There is almost zero ambiance to speak of, but rest assured no one is coming for that. They also should not be utilizing those restrooms unless completely desperate. (#1)The food lineup has a few hits that I can recommend comfortably: scrambled shrimp with egg, a mean peking pork chop, salt and pepper tofu, a delightfully greasy beef chow fun, and a tasty seafood yee-fu noodle. Their array of congee choices are definitely among their specialties, none of which are better than the renowned century egg and pork. Everything else is a complete gamble and should not be ordered unless the staff recommends it. (#2)The staff is multilingual with English, Cantonese, Mandarin, and some Viet with a Teochew twang. They love cash over card but will accept it happily. I noticed their takeout game is always on point and would recommend going this route unless one has time to kill. Best times to come are during lunch and late night after 10pm.___________(#1) You've been warned.(#2) This is a rule that should be applied to all establishments.

First time here, came on Christmas day. Was busy but there were 3 tables open when we arrived so there was no wait. We ordered several dishes, according to my mom who's been here multiple times, the food is usually better, and the wait for the food isn't usually as long as it was today. We ordered the walnut mayo shrimp which only came with 6 shrimp. The white chicken barely had any meat and was a small portion to begin with. The garlic snow pea leaves were so so as there was a gelatinous substance on the veggies, apparently the corn starch wasn't mixed properly to make the sauce. The beef was also so so, not much taste. The toasted fish filet was probably the best of all the dishes. The sweet and sour chicken was decent too, it had a good batter on the outside and was moist on the inside. Overall i wasn't overly impressed with the food, but would come back on a regular day to give it another try.

Food is good but the service is extremely poor! The wait time is extremely long and there usually only one waitress. Last time I came here I had to wait one hour to get my food

Came on New Year's Day for lunch, and the restaurant was very short staffed with the owner waiting most of the tables. I asked for hot water, and she brought hot tea instead. We ordered several dishes including eggplant, green beans, rice noodles, tofu and shrimp. The mapo tofu was very disappointing, but other dishes were more palatable. With the lunch special, each dish was only 6.50, so it's a bargain but with mediocre service.

The restaurant is located in the Dun Huang Plaza, which arguably one of the most popular plazas in Houston's Chinatown. As such, you may need to be prepared to spend some time finding parking. The restaurant signage is above the store, but not easy to spot right at the front of the store. The feel of the restaurant is pretty casual, nothing too fancy. Has a decent low-key vibe to it (I wouldn't recommend coming here for a first date though lol). The restaurant can probably seat around 40-50 at full capacity. My party had come for the lunch specials which is served even on weekends. The dishes we got were okay. I was impressed at the price point (especially in this inflationary economy), but not at the quality of the food. Wasn't horrible, just not something I'd necessarily come back to, since there are so many other options in the area.I also was not a fan of how some of the dishes/utensils were not cleaned very well. I get that this can happen from time to time, but I did notice that there were a few things that were not clean just at our table. Finally, I didn't feel like the service here was particularly great. There were a few moments when the servers were bringing the food to our table where the interaction felt borderline rude from them. Again, I wasn't really surprised, but this does dock a few points from the overall score of the place. All in all, I'd come back if someone invited me to meet here, but this wouldn't be a place I'd recommend to others.

Not sure what to think, The staff are nice, the food for me is kind of plain but the white rice is delicious! Its so fluffy! What I didn't like is that for sweet tea they don't have refills, they do charge you and the place doesn't look that clean. They don't have croutons for the egg drop soup either. The restrooms are not clean at all. It has more Cons than Pros, I wanted to form my opinion based on going and the reviews too, Glad I did.

The food is really good here, and the prices are amazing. The trade off is that you may have to wait a lot longer to get service and food as they run the restaurant with a limited staff. I do not recommend making an urgent appointment right after scheduling to eat here. I love all the salt and pepper dishes - I've tried the salt and pepper squid, fish, and tofu. All are delish!! Looking forward to heading back!

"Our house, in the middle of our street" Jokes aside, this place is a must try if you're stopping by Chinatown in Bellaire! The lunch special is incredible ($6.50 for most items)! This mom and pop shop delivers full, authentic Cantonese flavors with every dish I've had. Every order also comes with a to-go boxed packed to the brim with rice. I had an excellent to-go experience and the lady taking my orders was very sweet! I'll be back to try the fried fish next time. Great place to eat all around although the restaurant itself is a bit small.

Horrible place! First time there and waited for a hour and 15 minutes for our food to come out. Food are super salty, and taste nasty, and no service because this restaurant is under staffed. ONLY one server took care the whole restaurant with BAD attitude. You must pay attention to your bill that the server also charged us extra hot tea that we did not order. By the way, the place is SUPER DIRTY!

Dirty place. Price is cheap like the food. 3 out of 6 dishes order were either burnt or spoiled. Owner is a is super rude. Stay your a** in the back. 12:00 pm is to early to be arguing over $6 pork ribs that were hella spoiled. Come to this place if you want to get sick or catch a case. Rudest staff, probably worst in the kitchen with their spoiled/rotten food.
