The food was really lovely and tasted earthy! I appreciated that they didn't try to make fake "tastes-like-chicken" dishes and just let the vegetables and pasta speak for themselves. The corn base of the Shiitake dish was the best part.

Incredibly fresh, flavorful food! Highly recommend Pietramala!Ambiance & Service: Dimly lit and intimate--perfect for a date. Our server was friendly and gave excellent recommendations. The food takes time, so it's not ideal for a quick meal.Food: We had the Focaccia, Beefsteak Tomatoes, Roasted Beans, Shitake Mushrooms, and Harissa Eggplant. Every dish was bursting with flavor, and the produce was exceptionally fresh. We left feeling full, but not overly stuffed.TL;DR: Amazing fresh food in a cozy, intimate setting. Try the beans and shitake mushrooms!

Gotta give props to Pietramala...not only a great destination for vegans, but for omnivores alike. If you are not a vegetarian or vegan, I would still highly recommend trying this spot out. It's a cozy & quaint, storefront-esk type of dining experience. We had the pleasure of sitting at one of the booths, which comfortably sat 4 of us, right at the front window. We had great views of the entire restaurant, open-air kitchen, and plenty of opportunity for people watching on busy 2nd street. Their menu is pretty impressive - nice variety and creative offerings. They tout a focus on seasonality, fermentation, and preservation - and that is easy to see. While the food itself was good, I was most impressed by the appearance. It felt like each plate had vibrant color combinations and overall eye catching plating techniques. They recommend 2-3 plates per person, so as a party of 4, we just ordered one of everything + dessert. We found that it was the perfect amount of food for your group. Some of my favorite bites:- Honeynut Squash: I thought their pumpkin seed tahini was really innovative, and really matched two earthy flavors together nicely. The touch of habanero was the kicker here - gave it a great level of spice. - Golden Beets: Loved the sweet and sour combination - Sweet Potato: Their house hot sauce was delicious! - Tagliatelle: the "ragu" of the woods was tender and did a great job of holding the tomato miso sauce. The only real hang up we had was on their corkage fee...a little funny that they are a BYO and then charge people to open the wine. To be fair, I think we had them in a bit of bind by bringing multiple bottles (some of them pre-opened and a mix of wine/liquor) so they just charged us $20 for the table. I would just inquire about this before heading in - they made it seem like it only applies to wine (& perhaps just one bottle.) All-in-all...solid dinner!! Don't hesitate to try it out.

My introduction to Pietramala came from a vegan friend in Philly, and I was eager to venture into this new culinary experience on my own. Stepping inside, I was captivated by the soothing ambiance - a blend of neutral colors and the delightful aroma of charred wood that heightened my senses. The staff, from the host to the server, greeted me warmly, making me feel right at home. Pietramala doesn't offer alcoholic beverages, as it's a BYOB.I started with the intriguing Shrub and Soda drink, which left my taste buds tingling. It had a unique flavor profile, with a subtle apple cider vinegar aftertaste that surprisingly worked well. The menu showcased creativity, emphasizing natural ingredients and their true essence. For starters, I indulged in the fresh and crunchy Focaccia with Tomato Bagna Cauda. While the bagna cauda leaned slightly salty, the fresh flavors made it a delightful starter.Next, I had the Roasted Peppers dish featuring a vibrant mix of roasted peppers, peaches, cashew ricotta, jalapenos, and pepitas for that perfect crunch. The play of colors, flavors, and textures turned the meal into an exciting adventure. The final dish, Eggplant with harissa yogurt and dukkah, was a surprise of hearty flavors. Its initial resemblance reminded me of a steak, but it was far from that. The tender eggplant, paired with creamy yogurt and crunchy dukkah, created a perfect balance. The staff's warmth and the evolving menu makes Pietramala a culinary gem, where embracing the unexpected only adds to the delight of the dining experience. Though I found the dishes slightly salty, the overall dining experience was exceptional. *explore Philly's vegan delights, including my visit to Pietramala on my youtube channel! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gE6cC8dOv2U&t=1s

The servers are friendly and the atmosphere is nice and intimate. The food which I thought was pretty good had a few hits (Japanese yam) and a miss (parsnips), but overall very good and presented well. The huge letdown was the desert. We ordered the $14.00 rhubarb turnover. What arrived was a small pastry triangle just plopped onto a plate. The filling was more like a smear of rhubarb and the dough was very dry and lacked flavor. I don't know how they figured the pricing for this as everything else seemed fair. The last part of the meal should make you feel good and happy that you came in. I felt ripped off and disappointed.

I'll say a few things because I don't want to go crazy in this review. The restaurant is very intimate with the chef cooking with his sous chefs in the middle of the restaurant practically in your lap. So cool because you can look up and see them working so hard to make your food. Every dish is so fresh and hot when comes to your table so you know it wasn't under a light for 10 mins. I got a spicy pea, ricotta with a delicate cracker app . My sister got the focaccia and it was so tender and it had a tomato base. So delicious. We shared the mushroom and polenta. The mushrooms were so full of flavor perfectly pan fried. They were tender with crispy edges on a light polenta. Sooo good. I have no complaints at all! I can't wait to go back.

Not just a top vegan restaurant in PHL, definitely a top overall restaurant. Pietramala does vegan food exactly how I love it - centered on plants and making them so delicious that they stand on their own without having to emulate something else. Every dish we had was fresh, inventive, and just so freaking good. The menu changes weekly so I won't bother sharing dish recommendations but would say to most definitely ask the staff to guide you. Ambiance is cozy AF and service is great. Food came out quickly but not rushed and everyone was kind and super attentive. Highly recommended. PS - BYOB, but they have great NA drinks if you do choose

This place lives up to the hype. One of my favorite restaurants EVER! me and my fiancé were surprisingly full with these 3 dishes. While I am happy that there is a rotating menu, I want to eat these items over and over again! This is my #1 vegan restaurant pick in Philly. And I've had a lot. BYOB

If they actually get more waiters and actually give you portions that make sense this place would be great but its appetizer plates trying to pass for dinner. You definitely won't be full eating here the dishes are crazy small. Great aesthetic and ambience tho.
