Sandy K. "Shout out to Joyce W. After seeing her review of Steak 44, which is the street they're located on in Phoenix. I had to make reservations since I was in town only for a few nights. Btw several of the family members here are founders of Mastro's empire who sold the chain to a private equity firm in 2007 and is now under the family of restaurants by Laundry's. I checked in and was seated immediately and was sat near the bar. It was on the loud side with the music, and the bar was at capacity. Ordered a bottle of cabernet, appetizer of crispy shrimp, and a complimentary warm dish of yummy bread. I went for the dry aged 22 oz rib eye, fresh branzino with lemon butter, asparagus, pan-fried wild mushrooms, and cream Brule corn. For dessert, we had the Ultimate warm vanilla caramel cake (aka - butter cake). The food and service were outstanding.Definitely suggest reservations, and they have sister restaurants in Del Mar and Beverly Hills named Steak 48 - due to Arizona is the 48th state of the U.S."

The service was very good the restaurant was clean Little on the expensive side but the food was well prepared and worth it.We will definitely be returning for a meal sometime in the future."

Robert was our personable and very competent waiter.Appetizer was a couple of cheese and cracker trays with fig jam and candied walnuts. Lots of steak and seafood options with larger sharable sides and salads.Ordered a medium Delmonico Steak with a loaded baked potato. The sides are a separate charge. I have not had a Delmonico in many years. The well seasoned steak and side were outstanding.People in the group were very happy with their choices including Rib Eye and New York Strip Steaks. One person would have selected Swordfish instead of the milder Grouper, however it's all about personal taste. Cocktails and desserts were plentiful and well received.Great dining experience for special occasions. Like many other Yelp restaurant listings, current prices are on restaurant web page."

Everything and everyone was amazingWe chose this place for a birthday, checked in for our resy and as we walked through the path there were multiple managers (?) section leaders (?) awaiting to welcome you in their home. We were sat down and almost immediately our server popped up and welcomed us for dinner, stated that specials for the night and asked us our bread preference. I had just finished reading Guidara's book and this place was the epitome of what he was talking aboutOur meal was perfect, from the timing of the apps to the temperature of food. They did not miss a beat not once. Even the mid towel service in preparation for dessert lightly scented with lavender, to the mid service table brush. I was in dinner service heaven. And to that this place will always have a place in my food core memoryThe beignet tree?! Imaginative and memorable! Plus it counts as my vegetable intake. The farewell was sad because I wanted to stay forever lol, but the whole team was so thoughful with boxing up our leftovers AND putting in disposable utensils because we were traveling. They had our little pick her choice of dessert from the menu and that was so sweet of them to do."

We requested a counter seating but the host girl forgot about it. So we had to ask to be moved to the counter. Minor issue but the dinner experience was good enough. Menu was usual Japanese and Asian fusion items. Not gluten friendly but they offer tamari at least! We ordered quite a few items to share. We had fresh oysters, tuna tartare crispy rice, shishito peppers, salmon sashimi, mushroom miso soup, uni sushi, toro tartare, scallop and mushroom skewers as tapas. Also steak and whole Branzino as entrees. The food was delicious and fresh in healthy portions. The cocktails were tasty and strong. Our waitress was so friendly and attentive the entire time. We liked the food and service but the ambiance was so crowded and noisy. A decent Japanese restaurant but don't think we will visit again next time. Mainly I am not a fan of overpriced Japanese food. I don't drink most of the time now so I can't eat raw when I don't drink alcohol. Still a solid dinner experience to start our Arizona trip nicely! Ps. Valet disappeared when we came out, complimentary valet so they leave as they please?!"

Atul S. "Upscale restaurant and loved the experience. Took my wife there for her birthday night dinner. Overall I would recommend this place if expense is not a thing for you. Here are my takes:Food/Drinks: Everything tastes premium and upscale as the restaurant is. Serrver explained everything and was very welcoming. We tried 2 appetizers and entrees along with desserts which eventually were not billed and complementary on the house for the birthday night. Service: It was a very quick service from order to the table and loved it. Everyone is welcoming too. Ambiance: Great classy interior with multi-tier seating. Huge area and some unique shows of decor inside. Price: We ended up spending $300 for 2 adults and a kid here. It is upscale and so do the prices. It is not a place to go every day but for special occasions, these are some of the good options in the valley especially if you are into seafood.I would not go here every day but wouldn't mind being here on special occasions."

I had been craving French onion soup and this hit the spot, the caramelized onions, the hearty savory broth the croutons covered in melted gruyere cheese, oh so dang good! Glad we gave Zinc a try and look forward to coming back!"

Atmosphere was really inviting as far as the lighting, look and the open kitchen concept.Ordered the honey garlic and herb wings. Super yummy, just wished they were drenched in more of that great sauce! Shared a truffle cheeseburger which was absolutely divine. Reminded me of a Gordon Ramsey burger we use to crave in Vegas. Only bummer is that the burger is a little pricey and doesn't include a side. We shared a large order of salt & vinegar fries plus got extra truffle sauce to dip them in which was the perfect pairing. Met the GM who was hands on working with staff to get orders out to diners. Learned in speaking with her, this is their second location to open. Original location started in Nashville Tennessee. Definitely a "go to again" place. I'd suggest their Happy Hour to get some great deals. If not splitting a meal (like my son and I did) it can be fairly expensive but it's Scottsdale so to be expected."

I got the summer menu item which was sirloin with snow crab legs. Sooo good. I'm on a carnivore diet so gave my friend the taters and added grilled shrimp! So heavenly. I love coming here, esp if you're on the birthday rewards. Can't beat free meal for turning a year older! Me and my fam will continue to come. One thing that stood out this visit was our server went to get a box, meanwhile another server cleared our plates. We thought he was gonna box it but he threw it out. Our server was confused when she came back with box and food was gone, but no fear she went out of her way to get another potato (that's what was leftover) on the house. We actually got a beautiful table next to the windows. Our server was friendly but new and wouldn't serve pig wings in the dining room. Our shrimp cocktail was superb. We were really disappointed with our entres. I ordered the 22 oz bone in ribeye mid rare. It came out perfectly cooked but had almost no rib cap and tasted really lean and tough for a rib eye. For over $72 for an alla carte steak, I expect a much better cut of beef. I complained, and they brought me a second one that was absolutely no better. I accepted it because I just wanted to go home as my wife had been done eating for ten minutes.Don't get me wrong, we love Preston's and the great people who work there. Paula C. "I have mixed emotions about my dining experience. We went on a Tuesday evening without a reservation and were immediately seated. The waitress promptly took our drink order. We knew what we were going to have so we placed it with her when she came back. They brought out complimentary bread and butter that was so warm and mouthwatering. Started with iceburg salad which I don't typically have as there is no nutritional value in ice burg lettuce. Also, I didn't realize that there was bacon on it, which I know for all you bacon lovers ....YUCK. I just scrapped it off (my bad for not reading) and off I went to eating. Ordered a shrimp and salmon dinner. I truly appreciated the artistry of the kitchen. The shrimp was the best I have had in ages. It had my senses singing!! The only reason it's not five stars is the service. For one, it was slow, and it was not crowded. We had to ask for a refill of our tea and water. Secondly, she asked if we wanted dessert and when we said we did, failed to bring us the dessert menu. I ended up getting up and going to the front to get one since she was nowhere to be found. With that said, we ordered the crème Brulé and the cheesecake. The cheesecake was so huge I ended up taking more than half home. All in all the food made up for the service."

Years later, they moved to a swanky, modern spot around the corner complete with an enlarged outdoor patio and deluxe fire feature. Food: 2 starsEven though I love the physical improvements, my two stars are for the taste and value of the food. With many quality steakhouses around, the taste of my Mother's Day rib eye here lacked the rich and savory flavors that one expects from high end steakhouse. Their private rooms seem great for taking your clients out for a meal and there is so much space that it seems you don't even need a reservation. For food, we got the burrata to start, which was very good. It comes with some deli ham, which I didn't enjoy. It was so tough and too salty for me. For entrees, I got the ravioli, which was outstanding in taste, but so small in portion that I was still hungry unfortunately. My husband got the half-chicken, which was meh. It didn't fill him up, either. They don't even bring bread so we had nothing to fill us up. For the price point, I wish the portion was reasonable. At least it was crunchy like a cheese it might be. I thought it was a little like a crunchy cheddar cracker crumble. The macaroni and cheese itself was creamy. I didn't think that part of the dish was overwhelming, which was good. The macaroni itself was softer rather than on the al dente side. The filet was delicious. It was very smokey and charred on top. I know some people like wood fired meat. This is a wood fired steakhouse. Looks like they fire grill the seafood too. There is a wood grilled seafood section on the menu. The pork chops were amazing. The meat was soft and tender and fell right off the bone. The braised beef is very filling and delicious. It is very soft and tender. One night it was moist and flavorful. The other night it was a bit dry. The mashed potatoes tasted amazing the first night. The carrot and broccoli was good too the first time I went. The crispy calamari has a thick bread coating. It is similar to what you would find on a mozzarella stick. The sauce tasted like a sauce that would go well with a mozzarella stick too. I think it tasted like marinara. The menu description says that it is a chili Calabrian sauce. I didn't think it tasted spicy at all. Surprisingly the calamari didn't come out as rings. They were cut into sticks. They also had the mouth feel of mozzarella sticks. The service was fast and we got our food quickly. The restaurant was dark and I thought it was very cozy. Walking in- I love the cozy lighting and vibe they have going. They had a live artist singing his own covers and he did an amazing job and it fit the vibe well... I really enjoyed it- my husband and I would see it go could figure out what the song was first!! Fun times! He did a great job of taking songs and making them his own and doing it really well. So kudo's to whoever hired him for the entertainment last Saturday night 7/13! For service- everyone we felt with was very pleasant and friendly! We really like that and appreciate quality service! So that is to be noted!Food was delicious as well!! I ordered the Buffalo steak Med/rare with bleu-cheese butter- it was delicious and cooked to perfection!! Everything was great! Not to forget- we also had their charcuterie appetizer and I enjoyed it more than my husband. It's one of my faves if I see it on menu- their's was pretty decent. I was surprised by the chorizo- it was good! They were also supporting Military families and had special drinks that donated a portion from each drink ordered from that particular menu. I love to support our Military and I ordered their mocktail and it was very refreshing- I ordered a 2nd as well.We got the Tiramisu to go- I'm obsessed with a good Tiramisu. This was more of a mousse style- I didn't get much coffee flavor- but overall I liked it- just perhaps wouldn't categorize it as a Tiramisu, is all... but still tasty!I would definitely be back- there were people with families- some for dates- some just adults catching up after golf perhaps... so it is dressier but you can still be casual if you can dress biz casual and look nice and put together! Some people were way more dressed up- there was a variety. We enjoyed it and would recommend this location! Plus it's right by my house. :) Surprised we never tried it sooner! Everything was cooked to order and the counter girl was pleasant and helpful. After ordering she was actually the person that actually cooked our order. On a good note she washed her hands before cooking our meal.Within 5 or so minutes it was done, smoking hot. Everything was appealing to the eye and she gave us an extra basket to use since we were sharing. Fries home cut and just like Mom used to make. The bread to the sandwich was fresh, soft and amazing. Meat tender. Taste, I wouldn't really call it a Philly. The meat was seasoned literally with a lot of black pepper. Don't get me wrong it was a really good steak sandwich but not really a Philly. Not enough cheese made for a very dry sandwich. Some hot and sweet pepper would have made this a 4 star sandwich. They may offer but we didn't ask.The only negative is it didn't look like the tables had been wiped down after diners left. But in the restaurants defense there was only one person doing it all. When we left there were about 6 other diners that had ordered and there wasn't anyway she could take orders, cook and clean at the same time. We will definitely be visiting Joe's again. While I probably wouldn't make the drive over here for their eats, as a guest that was staying at the adjoining hotel, this was more than fine to fill the tummy when not wanting to leave the site. Maybe it's because of the more senior clientele of this place, I found all the food to be lacking in texture and salt (yes, I'm trying to find the nice way of say bland and mushy food, haha!). The price includes tax.Breakfast: I had an Espresso Martini ($10 - Vodka, Kahlua, Espresso, Simple Syrup) and a Country Fried Steak ($17 - Two Eggs Any Style, One Breaded Beef Steak, Country Gravy with Choice of Toast): First of all, if you want an espresso martini in a pretty cocktail glass, this ain't it. This isn't t he kind of establishment with over the top alcoholic drinks. In fact, I think they onky offer mimosa, Bloody Marys, and espresso martinis for breakfast. It's still a pretty decent espresso martini if you don't need the extra frills. As for the country fried steak, it was decent. Getting an extra side of gravy will cost you a few bucks but the extra gravy was needed.Dinner: I had a Traditional Club ($16 - Triple-Decker of Ham, Turkey, Applewood Smoked Bacon, Swiss Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Mayo, with Your Choice of Bread): To be honest, I was in the mood for a basic BLT and I don't know why I didn't ask to see if they would make me one. Triple-decker sandwiches aren't my thing and I wasn't too crazy for deli meat. That's on me though so I have no one to blame but myself. Was it a good sandwich? Sure. Will it win any awards? Nah! I did really like the onion rings that they served on the side."
