Finally checked out Suya Suya a few weeks back with Anna S. Anna ordered the Egusi over Fufu while the three of us ordered Suya Bowls. The three of us happened to have ordered different rice for our bases, allowing us to have a taste of all the different rice options offered by the restaurant. The Suya Bowls were a substantial amount of food, mainly because the plate came with large portions of rice. Don't get me wrong, the rice was delicious, in fact, you can't go wrong with any of the 3 rice options, but seeing that the restaurant is called Suya Suya, I thought they would highlite the Suya more than the rice. From pictures, the Suya Bowl came with sliced onions with white sauce, which doesn't particularly do it for me as a vegetable side, so I selected the brussels sprouts for my Suya, and only got 5-6 brussels sprouts. Doesn't feel like a lot of brussel sprouts next to the mountain of rice. You definitely get more Suya if you go with the meats. The Suya Bowl also comes with your choice of plantains or cornbread. The entire bowl just feels very carb heavy and unbalanced.Anna's Egusi over Fufu was tasty but was too spicy for our group.Overall, Suya Suya offers tasty food at reasonable prices, but I would definitely recommend ordering an extra side of Suya with your Suya Bowl.

Went there for dinner with J. And V. after we visited the Sakura festival at Fairmount Park. None of us know much about western African cuisine. It's a super casual restaurant. The food is served in disposal plates and utensils. J. ordered fish suya bowl, I had the chicken and V. had Egusi soup and fufu. I tried a little of V. dish. Fufu is interesting - I liked it. The Egusi soup is tasty but way too spicy for me.J. fish was well seasoned and tasty. I liked the chicken - very well seasoned. The rice was very good. J. had the plantains while I had the cornbread. I am not a cornbread person but I have to say this was the best cornbread I ever had. Very moist and tasted good! I like plantains but I thought theirs were on the dry side. We ordered 2 extra cornbread's at the end.My suya plate was full of rice, huge serving size. They were generous on the chicken too.Overall, if you would like to try another cuisine, I would say this is a place worth a try. Since I don't know western African cuisine well, I don't have any way to tell the authenticity of the food other than the food tasted good. J. cleaned up his fish suya bowl/plate quickly!J. and I had a little stomach issues after the meal but we weren't sure that was related to the food or something we had at the Sakura festival.I would go back to try their other dishes again.

Blown away by Suya Suya and really impressed with the Chicken Suya bowl I enjoyed in their shop on Fairmount. A few things to love:+ Going and ordering/eating in person is a win because you can get personalized recommendations from their stellar, helpful, joyful team. I love when I ask something and get an absolutely definitive response, which was the case here at Suya Suya. I wouldn't have gotten the hibiscus tea without this team members guidance and the hibiscus tea is unmissable!+ Talk about bang for your buck! I got three meal out of my ~$13 Suya bowl and that is simply a miracle. Never mind the fact that it reheats wonderfully and is super delicious next day. + I went the the chicken "less spicy" option and it was perfect for my taste. Paired with the jollof rice, super flavorful without being overwhelming.+ Do not skip the plantain! I will be back time and time again and can't wait to make it a go-to when I am in NoLibs.

I know little of West African cuisine, but i was excited to try it. The spicy rice dish with Brussels sprouts was good. My companion and I each got a vegan dish. I really enjoyed my hibiscus ginger drink. BIG portions. I made several meals from my lunch. It's a no-frills spot where you order at the counter. I look forward to returning to try the meat dishes.

The menu is very simple, you pick the protein, the heat level, the rice, and the side dish. I picked chicken with jolof rice, and plantains . Chicken was tender and had good flavor. I highly recommend the jolof rice, it has very nice smoky flavor. I picked not spicy sauce and it tasted like sweet ranch. Plantains were not sweet. The platter also comes with some shredded cabbage. Beef pie: it reminds me of Jamaican beef patty but more doughy. It's ok, you can skip it.

I really like this place even though I didn't like the dish I ordered. The waitress recommended first timers to get the Suya bowl combo but I wanted to be adventurous and went for the egusi over fufu. I have had fufu before and really liked it but I've never had egusi. It was yummy but just way too spicy for my taste. I couldn't finish my food; all the while I was drooling over all the suya bowls my partner and my friends got. The meat is seasoned so well and the rice is tasty. I highly recommend coming to try their suya bowls! This place is very casual but still has plenty of room and seating if you want to eat there.

This was a cool change up during the week, as we hardly ever get to try African cuisine. We had ordered takeout, and the food held up great by the time we were able to eat at home.Their menu and offers remind me of chipotle (bowls, wraps, tacos, etc.) but all with a West African twist. We tried the Chicken Suya Bowl & Roasted Brussel Sprout Suya Bowl. Both were good and very filling - they are big portions and heavy on the Jollof Rice. It's hard to describe the seasoning, but they mention it is marinated in a peanut spice. It was really interesting and the chicken was grilled nicely. The jollof rice is a traditional rice in Nigeria, cooked in chicken & tomato sauce - this was really good! Almost had kind of a smokey/grill undertone to it. They served the bowls with coleslaw and a side.Homerun hitter for us, surprisingly, was their cornbread. Wow - if you thought you had to go to a BBQ to find good cornbread, I promise you this can compete with the best. Super buttery and dense - it was a perfect side. We also tried their chin chin, which they describe as a crunchy donut. These were okay, not a huge standout, and they kind of tasted like animal crackers (which is not a bad thing!)Their menu looks solid though, and I'd like to go back to try their Kilishi (Spicy Beef Jerky) and their Beef Pepper Soup.If you are in the Northern Libs area, I would definitely recommend checking this out if you are in the mood to try something different or looking for a relatively healthy meal option with good portion.

Try the Meat Pies and Zobo. Hands down the best thing on the menu for sure! For most the food here is fair and the food caters to all taste buds. In my opinion it's the West African version of Halal Guys or Gyro King. For Africans that are not Nigerian you will taste this with your native tongue and make a judgement accordingly. Admittedly, I was expecting more flavor overall from the suya bowl (jollof, steak, brussels) but I'm glad I tried this place out. The service was great and the atmosphere accommodates indoor seating for about 15 people. Favorite Items: Meat Pie and ZoboParking: There is on street parking but it's hard to get a spot in this area.FYI: 1 cornbread is 2.50 Overall Pricing: It could be better for what you get. I feel as though I paid mostly for rice.

Been here a couple of times and came to the same conclusion -- the "mains" of the meals are the least interesting (some might say "good") parts and the sides/sauces are where the action is. The rices are all super flavorful. The sauces too. Both the chicken and the shrimp were kind of under seasoned, but as a component of a bowl, they work. It's a nice switch up for fast casual. And the service has always been very friendly.

I don't have a lot of experience with west African cuisine but we ordered from here and thought it was delicious! We tried a few of the suya bowls (steak and chicken) with different sides including the cornbread and plantains. I loved the smoky flavor of the rice, we both got mild versions which still had a pleasant kick, and everything together with sides and sauce were perfect. We also tried the Akara which the description compared to a falafel, not sure I see much of a resemblance between the two and I might not get them again (didn't love the texture, wish they were crispier) but they were interesting to try. I'll be craving this and will be back soon!
