John L. "Great Italian specialty spot if your looking for imported Italian groceries and a solid sandwich. When I was a kid my mother used to take me here often for her favorite Mortadella and at the time it was one of the only places you could find Nutella. They still sell Italian playing cards and Italian cornicello to hang so you can ward off the evil eye aka malocchio. Fresh produce, dairy/cheeses, olives, Italian coffees, juices, olive oil, sweets, panettone, fresh bread, deli meats, pints of Bassett's Ice Cream etc., all sold with help from a great staff. On my last visit I asked for an Italian hoagie with proscuitto and extra sharp provolone. I believe the guy told me it also came with hot capicola, genoa salami and pepperoni. It took a little bit to get my sandwich as they were very busy at the deli counter, but it was worth the wait. My sandwich was packed with meat and on a fresh roll (which I believe came from Corropolese, but don't quote me on it). Lots of spicy bite from the hot capicola, great kick from the sharp provolone and wonderful flavor from the proscuitto. Overall, it was a solid above average premium meat Italian hoagie.I took home some Italian wafer cookies, chocolate filled Croissants and a bottle of Brioschi which kicks butt if you ever need all natural quick effervescent digestive relief. (Thankfully I don't have problem often, but when I do, I thank God this stuff exists!) Dattilo's is an older Italian market and doesn't look fancy, but to me it's still a very relevant staple to the Northeast community run by good people."

Ade B. "I ordered from Lee's Deli because I know they have carrot cake made by the mythical "carrot cake man". The carrot cake man has been selling his carrot cakes on public transportation for many years. I didn't just order the carrot cake. I ordered a sampling of desserts along with an Italian hoagie. It is a deli after all. The Italian hoagie was a good hoagie, but nothing memorable. It will not be my go-to spot for an Italian. It seems none of the desserts are made in house, but they definitely know where to get them from The carrot cake was the same cake I remembered from years back. Very moist with the best cream cheese icing I've ever tasted. The red velvet and pound cake were also outstanding cakes. Right up there with the best Amish cakes. The sweet potato pie was just OK. I wouldn't get that again. I had 3 outstanding desserts, so no complaints there. But the deli part doesn't seem to be up to that very high bar."

The first time I had the Eagleville Sandwich (Homemade Roast Pork, Spinach Leaves, Sharp Provolone, Roasted Garlic, Long Hots, Onions, Creamy Garlic Sauce). You really have to like onions because this is loaded with onions. The second time I had a Ham & Cheese Sandwich (Boars Head Tavern Ham and Swiss Cheese). The sandwich was full of ham which I liked. Both times the people who served me were very friendly. They serve Reading Soda Works sodas. My favorite is the Honey Pear. The Black Cherry soda is good but the cherry flavor is not as full of cherry flavor as I like."

Ive been here quite a few times to grab some hoagies for lunch and was always satisfied. The rolls are so fresh and taste so good. The last time I came, I ordered a turkey and cheese hoagie and an Italian hoagie for lunch. The hoagie was so fresh, packed with meat ad was very tasty. The hoagie literally had some weight to them which you don't get at other delis in the area. As far as the staff, they are very friendly, but at times can be slow or short staffed and it shows while you're waiting a long time for your take out order. Besides the hoagies, they have chips, soda, cakes, cookies and juices for sale. They also sell my favorite pound cake from Stocks bakery, which is a plus."

John L. "I stopped in Timmy D's for a recent take out lunch order and I wasn't disappointed. The woman who took my phone order was kind and patient. She answered all of my questions and took it easy on a first timer. When I arrived, I found plenty of private parking behind their building and I thought it was convenient that they have a back and front door. The inside was pretty spacious and clean. They have coolers with drinks. sides and a couple of chip racks. My order consisted of their famous chili (award winning according to their menu), a chicken cutlet on a toasted roll with spinach and sharp provolone and a cheesesteak. They told me the order would take 15 minutes and they were dead on with their estimate. Now to the tasty part, the Filet Mignon chili was outstanding. For me I enjoy a chili that isn't too thin, but not incredibly thick and theirs is right in the middle. Lots of flavor, small lean cuts of meat, soft white and red beans, touch of cheddar cheese, green onions and a peppery/spicy kick from the middle lingering into the finish. Sadly I went with a smaller portion, but I'd go back for some more in a heartbeat. The chicken cutlet sandwich was decent, the breading had a sweetness to it that was a little different, but that wasn't a terrible thing, the roll was fresh (they told me they use a baker that mimics Sarcone's seeded rolls) and the cheese could have been sharper but was acceptable. The cheesesteak was on the same seeded roll .... points to them for not giving me a soggy, drippy, greasy roll .... but the meat was dry so I suppose that dry roll came at a cost. It could have had more cheese mixed in with the chopped meat. It was a slightly above average cheesesteak in my humble opinion.Would I return to Timmy D's? Absolutely! Besides a return trip for the chili, I'd love to try one of their panini's "spicy ultimate" sandwiches or an Italian hoagie. Thanks guys!"

A bit of grease dripping down the marble rye bread (which I agree did not hold up well at all, it was so odd, just dissolved away)You can add all kinds of stuff to it for almost nothing from sauerkraut, coleslaw, to making it a full Rueben or Rachel which is a Rueben plus swiss... I keep it simple with spicy brown mustard & some kraut.Solid sandwich, not one complaint and so much more enjoyable when it's not 32 bucks. As good if not better than any here at home.We waited a very short time & grabbed one seat, then another became available a short time later. Positive experience all around. "One of the pleasures of living in my neighborhood is having a great deli inside the Chestnut Hill Farmers Market called Ranck's.  It has been there forever I think.  And the name is Amish so it must have roots in Lancaster County which helps account for the quality of what it purveys. You can get so much here beyond just meats and sandwiches - if you eat sausages they are actually very tasty - and some of their prepared preparations will add plenty of flavor to any dinner.  But they do the basics well too - like our Philly Hoagie.  It's my favorite hoagie spot in Chestnut Hill and they throw in a classic bag of our Pennsylvania Utz potato chips for good measure.  Ranck's in the farmer's market is a Chestnut Hill institution."

She gave me a couple of dog treats and my dog gobbled them up immediately. After we got back home, I unwrapped my hoagie to eat it. The bread was not thick (like Primo Hoagies). The hoagie was stuffed sufficiently and not to the point where the sides would burst. It was the perfect size and with each bite, I got a bit of everything. Mi-Pals Deli

Austin B. "tl;dr the sandwiches are large, fairly priced, and pretty tasty -- all of the makings of a solid neighborhood sandwich shopIt seems that every Philadelphian has their go-to neighborhood sandwich spot, and Mi-Pal's Deli (named after owner Mike Palestino) routinely ranks among the most popular options south of Snyder. The barebones convenience store-deli hybrid has been slinging sandwiches, from chicken cutlets to Italian hoagies, since 1986.A large, red-and-black sign hangs diagonally from the corner of the townhouse that Mi-Pal's calls home. Inside, the open kitchen takes up most of the already tight space, and the customer waiting area is further cramped by shelves of beverages, chips, Tastykakes, and Italian pantry essentials. The whitewashed walls have red trim, accentuating the comfortably unpretentious vibe. The barebones operation is outfitted with ceiling fans but no air conditioner. Multiple flat screens are mounted on the back wall, and a radio hums quietly in the background. The staff members all focus on slicing meat and preparing sandwiches, while a short queue of customers awaits their orders.Armed with a Grubhub coupon, I scheduled my order in advance through the app. When I arrived, the staff had yet to even see my order, but they promptly completed it within 5 minutes.I ordered the Italian Inferno hoagie with extra meat. I had heard that the "inferno"-style sandwiches tend to underwhelm in the spice department, so I supplemented my sandwich with Chipotle Gouda and a side of Jalapeno Aioli. The foot-long seeded roll was stuffed to the brim and was large enough to adequately split between 2. The prosciutto and hot capicola were plentiful and delicious -- the staff truly outdid themselves with the "extra meat". However, the hoagie lacked a certain oomph. Both the gouda and sharp provolone felt muted, and the signature fried long hots had an overbearing flavor yet only a mild, lingering spice. I found the jalapeno aioli to be a richer, spicier, and more complementary addition. The base sandwich was $12, and it neared $18 after the supplements (which I added on to meet a GrubHub minimum). Of the extras, I felt that the double-meat and the aioli were worth the additional charge. While I think the Mi-Pal's is a more-than-serviceable neighborhood joint, with hefty sandwiches and fair prices, I can't see myself returning unless I'm already in the area."

Just can't decide what to make for lunch or dinner? Come here. There's a little bit of everything for all your wants and needs. As for the sandwiches........ O. M. G. I look for any excuse to order a Spicy Nepa. Road trip? Don't feel like cooking? Want to take a stroll outside and just happen to [intentionally] walk past Castellino's? You name it, I will jump at the chance to feast on one of these. No exaggeration - I'm usually good about taking and uploading pictures to Yelp, but every time I get my hands on a Nepa, I lose all train of thought and inhale it immediately. I've also had the Hoagie and Adranos (which are both really good), but I can't help but keep coming back to old faithful.Other than the variety of tasty and fresh products, another great thing about this place is that everyone who works here is beyond kind and accommodating. Example: I didn't realize that the giant 2lb bag of arugula in the fridge wasn't for sale, and one of the staff offered to weigh it out for me if I wanted to buy some. So, after walking the RTM a couple of times I settled on an Italian hoagie from LUHV. A very friendly man with beautiful locs waited on me. There wasn't a wait so my sandwich was ready pretty quickly. I believe it was $13 which I consider pricey, but most vegan food is expensive. In the past, I've always purchased my lunch meat and made my hoagies at home, so I was curious to see how this hoagie compared. The sandwich was a good size. The sandwich came with a couple of different types of vegan Italian lunch meat, vegan provolone, lettuce, tomatoes and lots of onions. It also came with a smidgen of vegan mayo. (Is there a vegan mayo shortage?) The roll was very dense, and I'm sad to say that the sandwich was very dry. The bread completely took over the sandwich, and the bread to lunch meat ratio was completely off. I was really hungry, so I did finish the sandwich, but it didn't knock my socks off. Needless to say, I was disappointed. So, in the future if I can get my hands on LUHV's lunch meat I'll make my own sandwich, at home. Otherwise, I'll skip this spot next time I'm at the RTM."
