I love everything about Pelagic. I love their selection, I love that they have non-alcoholic seltzer, I love that you can buy bottles for home or you can get a glass to stay and drink on their little patio. I even love their logo. It's such a great spot.

I love Pelagic. The place has the feel of a low key, neighborhood beer store, but the location and well curated beer offerings elevate this place from other neighborhood joints. They always have a well chosen draft selection, and their bottles and cans encompass a wide variety of styles. The service is strong and the outside seating is a great place to people watch.

It appears there is a need for this place judging from the crowd but if you simply want to buy a bottle of wine, this is not the place until they move inventory. I wanted to grab a bottle of wine but the wine is in the back of the store behind tables where patrons are. I kept saying excuse me but people were trying to enjoy their beverages and I was a nuisance trying to look at options. I simply grabbed the nearest cab to get out of there. Unfortunately, I didn't care for the wine and know that I would have purchased something better had I had the opportunity to browse. Please consider moving bottled wines to the front of your establishment for easier access when busy.

Pelagic: of or pertaining to the open seaThis bottle shop is super cute! Plus, I loved the decor. Mom and I met for a beer before heading to dinner so I went with a Prairie Funky Gold Sour Ale on draft and Mom went with an Aviator Mad Beach from the cooler. Before I left I picked up a Ballast Point Pineapple Sculpin and a bottle of wine. I will definitely be back, they had a small but great bottle selection!

Person Street is really starting to blow up, with the addition of Pelagic which specializes in beer and wine [with an emphasis on the beer, go to Wine Authorities for wine]. Pelagic currently offers six drafts and a cooler full of beer (as well as non-alcoholic bevies) to choose from. So what sets Pelagic apart from the plethora (yes, plethora!) of bottle shops within driving distance? Definitely the location, they're the first bottle shop in the Person/Peace Street neighborhood. The atmosphere is also great: the small, but inviting space has comfortable seating, both indoor and out, exposed brick, industrial elements with bar seats as well as private tables. The six taps offered have a great variety, there's always a cider on tap and they have some big names and vied for varieties, running $5-$6 dollars and served in plastic 14oz glasses (although note to bartenders, please serve beer all the way to the top! While that tiny portion at the top doesn't look like much, cap the top, turn a glass upside down and see how much you're missing). Overall, I think what sets Pelagic apart the most of the cozy atmosphere. I'll stop by when I'm in the area again and am excited to see how they grow overtime.

I have to say my review might be a little biased, as I come here way too often. The first impression I had coming here, over a year ago, was great. One of the owners was working and took the time to say hello and discuss the shop with me. Not every place does that. Each bartender is also really personable. I would say I've come to be friends with almost all of them.Fast forward a year plus, and I'm likely to be there at least once a week, if not more. The selection of bottles is really good. They don't just carry the Raleigh area beers, but plenty of others from around the country. They travel to places within NC to get beers that don't distribute (think Wilmington Brewing and Boojum). On top of the beer they have a decent selection of ciders and bottled wine. The draft list is usually outstanding. They use untappd, so you can see what they have on draft even before going there. They usually have one cider on draft and they have a small by the glass wine list. However, you can also grab singles out of the cooler as well to drink there. The only food they have is small snacks in the back cooler: pre-packaged cheese, meat and cracker trays, pimento cheese dip, crackers, and Escazu chocolate bars. If you need something more, you can always order to-go food from The Station at Person Street or Oakwood Pizza Box to enjoy there. Just a small item, but pretty cool, you won't see a trash can in the bottle shop. They compost and separate out the trash items for composting behind the bar. Another tip, I would recommend joining the email list. The email comes out once a week and lets you know what shipments of beer they'll be receiving that week. It's definitely a great neighborhood bar that doesn't usually get too crazy. Occasionally there can be a few too many dogs or kids in the place, but it's not near as extreme as other breweries I've been to in the Raleigh area. They have a small outdoor area that seats about 4-5 people. It's hit or miss if it'll be available. I definitely recommend it... clearly since I go there about once a week.

It's no secret that bottle shops are plentiful in the downtown Raleigh area and my husband and I visited several on our recent trip but this one was probably my favorite. First and for most, it's adorable. It's on the smaller side and located a little off the main drag which to me adds to the appeal. There is patio furniture out front and big windows to make the inside bright and welcoming. They have a wide selection of local brews and ciders. They also have a rotating tap with a good variety. The server was very nice and knowledgeable (especially about ciders) which was impressive. I was given a few samples and suggestions and bought a 6 pack of cider to go. For locals they have different events such as yoga and bottle shares and they are also pet friendly. Definitely recommend checking out this little gem.

Bottom line: Pelagic Beer & Wine is a nice place to catch a brew or two there or take some home to enjoy later. Great charm and unique feel to this little place is its appeal. Pretty good selection both in the cooler section and the take home shelves. I enjoyed not only my beverage there but the interactions with the Pelagic owners/staff. I am definitely a fan!The Deets:As the big chalkboard in this little bottle shop and bar reminds you, the definition of pelagic is "of or relating to the open sea." This new little place that has popped up just off of Person Street on Pace Street reflects that in little ways and in doing so gives it a great charm and character.Pelagic Beer & Wine is a good place to check out some great brews in a unique atmosphere. Lots of little things with sea or beach type feel...the barrels with burned in images of whales, the back sitting area that has much of a beach cottage type charm to it, the open feel of the whole shop...check out the pics I snagged. It definitely pulled a bunch of us in this weekend to check it out, so I guess it works, eh? We found many good brews to peruse and enjoy. They have their mix and match six packs with most of their cooler area, and a small area of the cooler for "enjoy there" at the bar if you'd like. They have some good stuff rotating on tap as well at the nice little bar mid store. I was pleased with the selections I saw and the Citizen Cider I ended up drinking that that I usually enjoy seeing up towards NYC. The owners/staff were very eager to share their story of how they came about and gladly answered any questions we had. I enjoyed stumbling onto this new hidden gem and look forward to seeing them again in the future.
