I was looking for a good weekend brunch/lunch spot in Cary and Peck & Plume fit the bill. The Yelp reviews were generally accurate. This place is popular. During our Saturday visit, the dining room and outdoor patio were full and busy. Book your reservation using OpenTable and earn dining points that can be used for discounts at other OpenTable restaurants, Amazon gift cards, and more. Not all restaurants on OpenTable award dining points, but Peck & Plume does, so that's a plus.Peck & Plume opened in August 2021 inside The Mayton. The Mayton was formerly known as The Mayton Inn. Per Cary Magazine, after The Mayton Inn was bought out of bankruptcy in June 2020, it rebranded as The Mayton (they dropped the "Inn" part). It's downtown Cary's only boutique hotel: https://www.carymagazine.com/food-and-dining/welcome-back-to-the-mayton/I suggest parking in the library parking deck at 113 Walnut St. It's a short walk through the park and up the sidewalk to The Mayton. We had reservations at 11:45am on a Saturday. At that time, there was an event going on in downtown Cary. All street parking around The Mayton was taken. The library deck had plenty of free parking, however. The cuisine is New American. The restaurant serves breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday, 10am-2:30pm. At brunch, the menu (food and drinks) was a simple one-pager.Here's what our group of four adults and two kids ordered:Brunch Cocktails* Bloody Mary x2 (charged $14 each, menu said $12) - Tito's Handmade Vodka, hand-crafted Bloody Mary mixSoups & Salads* Soup of the Day (sip size, $2)Mains* Two Eggs plate ($15) - applewood-smoked bacon, pork sausage, garlic cheese grits, wheat toast* Warm Stone Fruit Preserves ($15) - biscuits, applewood-smoked bacon, garlic cheese grits* French Toast Brick ($17) - mixed berry crush, mascarpone* Smoked Salmon Scramble ($19) - smoked salmon, dill, chive and brie in a pastry shell with petite mixed green salad* Mayton Burger (charged $15, menu said $14) - aged cheddar, Academy Street Steak Sauce, lettuce, tomato, brioche* Side of Bacon (4 strips for $5) - not on menu* Side of Ranch Dressing ($0.50) - not on menuWe shared the Mains. Overall, I thought the food was good, not great.Generally, the quality of the food looked and tasted like it came from a nicer sit-down breakfast restaurant chain like First Watch. It didn't have much of a "local" or "homemade" feel to it, to me. The biscuits weren't the best -- perhaps slightly better than average. I think they could've been moister and fluffier. My favorite dish was the French Toast Brick. I think it's called "Brick" because of its brick-like shape. It was French toast smothered in a sweet and tangy berry sauce with whipped mascarpone. Delicious. Yummy texture too. My wife really liked the Warm Stone Fruit Preserves. I thought it and the Smoked Salmon Scramble were tasty. The Smoked Salmon Scramble was well made. The garlic cheese grits were terrific. You get to choose them as part of the Two Eggs plate (the other choice is breakfast potatoes). They're included with the Warm Stone Fruit Preserves. The Mayton Burger and bacon were solid as well, but nothing to write home about. All that said, nothing was bad and I don't think you can go wrong with anything in the list of items we ordered above. My wife and I enjoyed the Bloody Marys. The Bloody Mary is one of our favorite cocktails and Peck & Plume's version hit the spot. I liked their twist with the cornichon, green olive, and pepperoncini. Yum.Service from our server, Hadley, and the hostess was great. Despite a busy brunch service, Hadley was attentive and everything was served in a timely manner.Peck & Plume and The Mayton have a classy-yet-casual, modern, Southern atmosphere. We ate in the main dining room. There's also a large private event space, the terrace (outdoor patio), and study. The study is a cool space, but it's more like a lounge for drinks rather than a meal. However, I believe you can order food from there. The study has a charming brick storefront with white columns and rocking chairs on the porch.

The hotel staff are so friendly and welcoming. That all ended when we got to the hostess stand for the restaurant. No greeting, just stared at. We'd walked in from outside and it's hot today. Apparently, we didn't meet the standard they expected. We told them we'd like a table for 3 and are told to follow someone. She asks the hostess where we're going. A deadpan response with a huff was, "the bar." The amount of judgement and disrespect from these three women was enough for us to decide to leave instead. I get that we'd been walking outside and were in peak condition. We didn't have inappropriate or skimpy clothing either. Too bad, the menu looks good, albeit a little higher. If you're just visiting and not wearing your best clothes, plan to skip. The only reason I give it a 2 is for the lovely front desk worker and the nice gentleman who held the door for us.

I was a little hesitant to dine here based on the reviews but am glad I did. Peck & Plume is located inside of the Mayton Inn and is reservation only. You can dine on the terrace, at the bar, in the library or in the dining room.We were a large group of 20 but they wouldn't seat us together. We were originally going to be at two tables and just one or two checks but they ended up putting us at smaller groupings and did do the separate checks. It was a little disappointing not to be near the rest of the group when there were plenty of tables to put us together.I went with the eggs benedict. It was the classic version when I was there so it might be different next weekend. My food came out after the rest of the table's dishes did. The poached eggs were cooked too long so I didn't get the runny yolks I like but otherwise the taste was really good. Service was mostly good and my drink was refilled without asking. But all the food for the table should have been brought at the same time as there were just four of us.I'd return again but in a smaller group.

Food was good, but service was fairly awful. We waited for over an hour for our meal to come out after we ordered it. The Caesar salad was average, but it was nice that you could get actual anchovies. The shrimp and grits was pretty solid but very rich. It's a good dish to share.. had a really nice West Coast IPA byVicious fishes "there be dragons"Ambiance is charming. It was strange. My husband wanted a roll with his salad, and they appeared to have no bread besides hamburger buns when we were told that there was a great bread bakery just down the street!!! They should take some initiative to pair up with the bakery and serve their bread....

Third time here with a table top of 13 and they were able to accommodate us timely. I must say the food offerings this time around wasn't as great as my first visit 5 years ago.The ambiance is still nice and great for holiday pictures. Nonetheless, it was fun to experience a new restaurant with colleagues.

BLUF: Lovely restaurant within the Mayton with a beautiful patio overlooking the new park.Peck & Plume serves great food. One consistent measurement we use for a restaurant is how well they fry their fries. P&P hits this one for an easy triple. They go with a thinner fry and are well fried. The Cuban sandwich was very delicious. We liked how the mustard gave a slight spicy kick and enough acidity to balance the ham and pork. Would have been even better if it was served with half a pickle on the side. I've never had a Kentucky Brown before and this one didn't disappoint me when I tried it. The Mornay sauce slathered over a thick cut of turkey breast and tomatoes made it so scrumptious.Even on a chilly December afternoon, it was comfortable on their renovated patio and gave a beautiful view of the newly finished park.

Fantastic spot nestled away inside of the Mayton Inn. Offering a variety of seating options inside or out, the decor is well curated and quite inviting. A great spot for brunch or dinner, with groups of all sizes, it is quite a flexible destination. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly, offering efficient service all around. The food was fresh, packed with flavor, and presented well, all offered at fair prices. Would definitely recommend and will likely return.

I've only had been here for drinks prior to this so I was excited to bring my friend for her birthday brunch! I have zero complaints on food. If you were wondering what a "sip" potion for soup this is it. It's in a cute little tea cup and just enough to get the taste of the soup. I'm absolutely all for this. The eggs Benedict was quite dense but soo delicious! It was supposed to be in cornbread but I switched it out for an English muffin. They lost a star for 2 reasons:1) you HAVE to make a reservation to be seated. I saw plenty of empty tables but they couldn't "guarantee" them so we had to make a reservation for an hour later and we walked around downtown until our reservation time. Not a fan of that but I guess they are trying to be elevated2) we were sat in the 'gentleman's lounge' (the room off to the left after you pass the host table) and I honestly think the waiter forgot about us. We were the only people there (which was nice on a privacy standpoint) but also I'm sure it was hard to keep track of us if his other tables were in the other rooms. Not exactly his fault, but he was only there scarcely. No water refills, no checking if we needed anything . Again, not his fault as we were off to the side so take this comment with a grain of salt. But for long we had to wait for the check, I had to mention it. Overall, I enjoyed the ambiance and the food so 4stars it is!

I came here for dinner after work with coworkers one evening. The restaurant itself is located within The Mayton Hotel. As soon as you walk into the restaurant, you are immediately transported into a modern American dining experience. The ambience is old colonial crossed with modern decor. It truly is unique and well executed. To start out, my coworkers, and I shared the scallops, cheese plate, and fried green tomatoes. The scallops were divine; the juxtaposition of the soft scallops paired with crunchy onion straws was a nice touch. They offered a nice variety of cheese with the cheese plate; I felt that was well executed. For my entrée I went for the short rib special. The short rib was soft and melted in my mouth. Sometimes short rib can be over cooked but that was not the case here as the short ribs fell apart as you put your fork into it. For dessert, I elected to go for the intense lemon tart; it wasn't overly sweet and the tart paired nicely with some fresh fruit. It was a great combination.
