I had a satisfying meal at Oporto Fooding House and Wine, especially considering the Restaurant Week rush (Date of visit: August 19, 2023 @ 5/5:30PM). The standout was the scallop farrotto - huge scallops cooked just right, paired with a delicious, well-seasoned farrotto (farro risotto). Their giant meatball appetizer was tasty too.Service was surprisingly quick for how packed the place was. We sat at the bar, which definitely helped us get a table faster. The ambiance is nice, but think an elevated Panera vibe rather than something super intimate.Overall, worth checking out if you're looking for good food and can handle a bit of a crowd.

The port. Had a 6:30 pm reservation on a Friday night. Thunderstorms for 2 hours prior so wasn't sure how we'd fair. They have some street parking (metered) and a garage. There is valet but after seeing the way they drove the cars we were glad it was early enough for us to find street parking and make the 4 min walk. Meter parking for 2 hours $2.We were sat quickly and there was a good amount of people. The restaurant is nice. Quaint. But very very dark. Neither of us drink so we each had a mock tail. We ordered:Daily bread - house baked focaccia with seasonal toppings & sourdough with herbed olive oilBread was fresh and warm and went well with the herbed olive oil ( I also dipped it in the curry)Croquetas De Bacalhau - crispy salted cod & whipped potato fritter/ piri piriPerfect balance of filling and the fried batter was light and the sauce went wellPolvo Com Batatas -grilled spanish octopus/ mustard seed shaak potatoes/ salsa verdeThe octopus was grilled to perfection and so very tender. The potatoes paired nicely.Seafood Balchao Curry - gulf red snapper/ shrimp/scallop/ spicy goan curry This. Is. A . Must. Very very nice curry, could not get enough. Large prawns and fish pieces. Came with side of rice and roti.We ended the night with: BOLO DE BOLACHAportuguese 'tiramisu'/ espresso soaked maria cookies/ port laced cream/ cocoa powder. I am not a fan of tiramisu. But lawd, this was so delicious! The staff was great from the hostess to our waiter. I think his name was Dandy and he gave us some great suggestions and was very honest. Def plan on going back! Make reservations. By the time we left, it was almost a full house.

At first glance, Oporto's is a little hard to find, since it's located right between two roads with no parking lot. We went to Oporto's on a weekday for lunch and it was peaceful and fairly empty. Our waiter was super nice and gave us a bunch of recommendations including Chicken Curry Empanadas and Portuguese Squid Fried Rice. We ended up ordering Bife A Portuguesa, Chicken Curry Empanadas, and Portuguese Squid Fried Rice, with a Fig and Honey to drink. The Bife A Portuguesa is essentially a steak sandwiched between a fried egg and batatas bravas. This dish is solid and definitely worth a try, the potatoes were savory and topped with their homemade tomato sauce. The steak was cooked medium rare, as we requested and wasn't too tough to chew. The Portuguese Squid Fried Rice was a nice, carb-rich dish that provided us with delicious fried rice embedded with pops of seafood. Not a single grain of rice went to waste. The Fig and Honey was our drink of choice. It was incredibly crisp, a little tart, with a hint of sweetness. The dried orange slice topped off the drink with a citrusy feel and eliminated the usual bitter aftertaste of alcohol.Last but certainly not least was the Chicken Curry Empanadas, and these are a must order if you decide to go to Oporto's. The empanadas are firm but at the first bite, instantly melt in your mouth. Each bite is a warm explosion of meaty flavor with a twist of curry. The Chicken Curry Empanadas alone would make me want to come again.I would definitely recommend giving Oporto's a try, and the Chicken Curry Empanadas are a must order if you do decide to go.

Amazing tapas place that's mainly Portuguese style dishes but with Spanish influences and a little bit of Indian fusion in some dishes. We did the scallops, bread basket, octopus, grilled sardines, paella, shrimp and potato's bravas. It was all pretty good and was pleasantly surprised by how tender the steak was in the paella. Nice ambience and would say it's great for groups and for more intimate dates as well

Great Tapas Portuguese find that my daughter found. Was first time here, little far from me, but a great find. You can go wrong with anything on the menu. Great service, very attentive servers, & heartwarming ambiance. Parking is a bit of an issue but all worth it. We ordered Batatas Bravas, Crab & Avocado Crostini. Lamb Ribs, & pizza! Best thing I noticed, the way they bring food, which is shareable but they don't rush like some restaurants, where they bring all in one go. They bring it one by one so guest can savor it and wait for next entree! Definitely will be back as there are some more delicious items to be eaten. Next I will come with friends !

Updated review from 6 years ago, and its a +2 star upgrade to 5 stars. Our party of ten or so came to Oporto for a business dinner. With so many people, you're able to share LOTS of sides, mains and desserts so the chances of getting great dishes over mediocre dishes is huge. Everything we ordered was outstanding, and I left the restaurant very full. Service from Shaw (sp?) was wonderful - he gave good recs, was knowledgeable on finer points of Brazilian cocktails, and even has a slight resemblance to Lebron James!I recommend sharing the following:1. Portuguese Paella - oh my! Hanger steak, snapper, shrimp, scallops, mussels, sausage and shishito peppers mixed with some fragrant, moist rice. An order easily serves 3 people.2. Lamb Ribs are fall-of-the bone juicy.3. Bacalhau - must get dish of fried salt cod fritters. Crispy, packed with flavor. They don't skimp on the cod. We got extra orders.4. Between the red and white sangrias I liked the red more - fruity and boozy.5. Definitely get the octopus - cooked perfectly and so soft.6. Lastly, save room for tiramisu - their version adds a bit of Port but otherwise is as good as the Italian version.

I preferred the original tiny cozy Oporto restaurant on the corner of Richmond-Weslayan, and also the River Oaks W Gray. Sharing the same name, I assume they were part of the family but the midtown Gray Oporto is the only one left. Oporto serves fusion Portuguese food with Middle Eastern and Indian touches. The bacalhaus cod fritters/croquetas, grilled octopus and paella met some of my expectations representing Portuguese cuisine. (In Portugal, the cod fritters appetizers were served everywhere, although in smaller bite sizes). Their sangria was sweet and fruity and thus easily downed and toasted. Our favorite part of the meal was the dessert sampler plate of the chocolate cake, egg tart, tiramisu, and bread pudding. The sampler was $30 but with full sized dessert portions and we polished them off. The older greeter gentleman was efficient but also very brusque mannerism. The initial vibes felt like an experience at a car dealership . I assume he must be part of the management team, good at running the business but without the soft skills. Good thing that service from our waiter was efficient, friendly and on point. The restaurant is nice but quite loud inside. If cool and nice weather permits, outside patio seating (by the grapes & fig trellises would be ideal to block street view & traffic)...other than keeping an eye out for the occasional homeless people by the street corner. Parking is a pain and meal is somewhat pricey as expected in the area but food is overall good & flavorful. Btw for the location & ambiance, we voted for their sister restaurant De Gama, which leans more Indian fusion food.
