Really hope this place makes a comeback. One of the best Mexican food experiences you could have! Felt like you were in someone's home (which you kind of were). Come back!!

This gem has been going 30 years strong, everything on the menu is delicious and homemade. I had the menudo today and now I know why everyone raves about it! The place on the outside isn't much inviting but once you sit down and try the food, you will be glad you stopped by. The Breakfast is what keeps us coming back to this place. It's like eating at your favorite Tia's house, you know the one that makes your favorite homemade tortillas! Yes that one!

The rumors are true!! The food at Old Mexico is amazing! I mean, I am not a fan of Mexican food, but I can tell you that was not an issue at old Mexico. The queso was great, and it's actually complementary. I chose to get the Carne Guisada dinner and the meat was so tender and tasty, I almost forgot to eat my tortillas!! haha! Please don't be discouraged by the look of the area nor the look of the restaurant because it is nothing but a diamond in the rough. The service was great. The waitress was really nice and all the other ladies working there were really nice too. My food came out pretty quickly. I would not recommend anyone to take their date there for a first date, but once you know them and know they appreciate good Mexican food, just do it! Why only four stars? Because they do not have natural juices. Their drinks were limited to soda and iced tea... boo.

Most people know I don't give out many 5-star reviews, but some places just deserve it. Old Mexico is one of them. They are never mentioned on any Best of List for Houston area, but that's probably because the word hasn't gotten out or just the writers of these lists don't really know what great Tex-Mex tastes like. I've been coming here for years but finally decided to tell more people about the place. FYI, you will probably drive by the restaurant the first time trying to find it, then circle back around.Everything on the menu is good. I usually order the beef fajitas a la parilla, carne guisada or the pork chop dinner. Their rice, beans and tortillas are all delicious. As are their chips and salsa. Many times you will see sheriff cars parked outside; that's because they are eating here.

I had to try this place after seeing the great yelp reviews. Coming back from the airport today around dinner time I decided to swing by for dinner before going home. I don't live in this part of Houston so wouldn't normally eat around there. It is a real dive or hole in the wall type place. Parking is somewhat limited but then the restaurant is rather small. The area of town this place is in might intimidate some but doesn't bother me.I ordered the chicken fajitas that come with refried beans First the chips and salsa came out. Warm red salsa was good along with the chips. What surprised me was that they also gave me a bowl of queso at no charge which I enjoyed. I gave the chips and salsa a weak 4.When the food came out everything was on the sizzling platter including the refried beans and pico de gallo which is unique. The chicken was two boneless breasts with a lot of onions and rice. They also gave me 4 flour tortillas. I took a picture of it that is on this site.I thought the fajitas were good. A strong 3. I prefer charro beans which they don't serve. However I must say the their refried beans that were on the sizzling platter were better than most refried beans I have had.My service as good.I realize that my overall score of 3 is well below its average score of 4.5. The location and interior are somewhat negatives. Also while there were some things I liked (free queso, large amount of chicken) I didn't think the overall meal was as good as I have had at other mexican restaurants that I have given a 4. Perhaps if I ate there again and ordered another dish I could raise this score to a 4. I do believe it could be a 4 restaurant. The problem is that the location is nowhere near where I live or normally travel and that it may be awhile before I get over there again.

Horrible ... DO NOT GO TO THIS HOUSE I wouldn't feed this food to my dog .... Service is horrible , food horrible .. spoiled beans ... Ambiance is like eating in a roach infested house that serve you dirty dishes with half cooked food and they want you to hurry and eat and get out . I'll never go back .. it's been over 16 years since I been I don't even see how these people stay in business . I guess if you serve out of your house you live in you can just give your customers old left over food that is about to go bad or is bad !!

First things first when I try a new Mexican restaurant , I always check for carne guisada on the menu . Not many Mexicans spots have it . But Old Mexico sure does ! Not bad either . Bonus points for serving queso with the chips and salsa . Hours are odd . It's mostly a weekday lunch spot or something . Parking sucks and place is small . But it was good .
