This place gets a 1 star because I couldn't give it a zero. I am going to stay don't believe photos. Anyone can take nice pictures and make something look more than what it is. Hence, I fell for the banana in the tailpipe with this one. Yeah, that fisheye lens used is deceptive like a mofo. While waiting for the third person in our little soirée, I walk over to get checked in. I had been getting reminders regarding the upcoming reservations at Otto's, so when there was no one in sight to check up is- it was odd. I walked up to the bar and asked about a table for 3 and the bartender advised for us to seat ourselves. The tables were dirty so we asked if someone could come and clean them. She told us to sit at the table that was next to the one that we wanted because it was clean. No it wasn't. That part. She came over to wipe the table down and to bring over menus. As she is handing us the menus, she told us that we had to come up to the bar and place the order because the server(s) called in sick.Hm. Where they do that at. Oh there at Otto's! Needless to say we were Outta Otto's. And not looking back. A horrible first impression and start to a birthday celebration. We had to find a real place suitable for a celebration. This wasn't it and won't ever be it.

What a nice find in downtown Oakland! Otto's is a bar/restaurant/lounge located within the Kissel Hotel on Broadway. After a morning medical appointment, my partner and I were looking for a spot for refreshments and a light breakfast, and found Otto's on the map. We both used to work in downtown Oakland, but haven't been back in a minute, so we were unfamiliar with what's new in the area, and were pleasantly surprised to find this place. It is located on the ground floor of the hotel, right off of the lobby. Tastefully decorated and with ample seating. RB ordered the eggs with bacon, potatoes, and toast, and I had a bagel; all good. What stood out above all was the excellent service from the staff, one lady and one gentleman, both of whom were kind, attentive, and engaging. The woman informed us that there is also a rooftop bar at the hotel, which we will return to check out one of these nights. Otto's was a pleasant and relaxing morning pit stop, and I recommend checking it out if you're in the area.

We rarely go to Oakland anymore but happened to be there one morning for an appointment. Looking for a place to eat and drink we came across Otto's. What a surprise. Initially had no idea it was in a hotel. I think we were the only non travelers. Staff was great and food and drinks were great. We even came back a week or so later and the young lady working mornings even remembered us. This is inside the Kissel Hotel. If you are around 25th and Broadway be sure to stop in.

Stayed here at the Kissel so decided to try out their breakfast. A colleague ordered salmon with their morning bowl - they had forgotten the additional salmon so she told them to just remove it from the bill. They weren't actually able to remove the cost of the salmon from the bill for some reason - instead, they just said that we could order something of the equivalent value. This was slightly annoying - there wasn't anything else we really wanted so it was inconvenient to have to come up with something. I ordered the fried chicken and waffles - and it was solid. The fried chicken was a tad on the saltier side, but the dish was still good. Overall, not bad for a hotel restaurant - though I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to eat here.

Food was sub par. First time in, for Oakland Restaurant week. I live close enough to come frequently. I tried to visit previously and no one was present in the restaurant area. The signature drink imo is terrible. "The town Tribute" the worst cocktail I have had in Oakland. The old fashion was delicious and Quinn was a fantastic bar tender. The kitchen really let her down. But she smiled and had a great demeanor through it. A real professional and a real person. Without her this would be a one star review.Flavorless rock hard chicken. Flavors of grease and oil only. No seasoning and a terrible fry. Mac was velveta shells level. Slightly passable was the kale with bacon. Chocolate bread pudding was great. Best thing we had.If coming though hit up Quinn for a drink and then roll on for food.

Wow, how can service be so mixed - good and bad? The server came to my table after a long wait. Yes there was a gathering event crowd so the bar was noisy. While waiting, I check the online menu and then when asking about the food and bev, like if the cocktail is sweet or what bourbons - the answer is "I don't drink so not sure and let me check". Back the first time with partial info and then a drink menu. But what about the food menu since now you told me that menus online aren't always updated. Come back again but then tell me to order at the bar instead!?! Like are you incompetent or just annoying? I go to the bar to eat since clearly I'm not worthy. Bartender is great but now I feel sorry. How can she have to both make drinks and cover for lack of help. I even witnessed the same person pour a glass of red (end of bottle) and tell customer sorry no more. What do you want? Bartender comes to rescue and suggests another. Sea bass was good and flavorful but needed a bit more seasoning. On a bed of veggies and green purée. And yes there was more than Jim Bean (ick!) that I was told. 1 star for the server, 4 for the sea bass and 5 for the bartender plus extra for having to deal with the server's incompetence. At least try to fake it since you're not a busboy/gal.

Very attentive and friendly staff. Was only there for a quick breakfast but the bowl I ordered was filling and delicious, latte was also pretty good. The design of the space was very chic and modern.

Nice hotel lobby spot for morning coffee and meetings. Sort of odd to call this out specifically but the overnight oats with fresh fruit were beyond fantastic in my opinion. Looking forward to staying at the Kissel next time I'm visiting Oakland.
