The town of Martinez laid claim to be the birthplace of the martini sometime around the Civil War. I think people argue who exactly invented the classic cocktail and where and whether the name is truly a derivation of the town's name. Well, it certainly makes for good chatter over a martini. This spot is as good as any to get a fine martini.I have yet to patronize the refurbished storage container where they serve cocktails during warm weather on the back terrace. Instead I've taken advantage of the bar lounge they set up on the mezzanine level of the Market & Main food court building. They have a full bar set up with plenty of seating and a vintage movie playing on a big screen.I love Carole Lombard, so I was thrilled to watch "To Be or Not To Be" (photo: https://yelp.to/ZWVPiE_dGp), while sipping quite a refreshing $16 Espresso Martini (photo: https://yelp.to/NbUiw6YhVX). OK, maybe I had two. The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable about the nuances of a classic martini. It's only been open since last year, so this isn't where the martini began. The new 21+ Cocktail Lounge on the second floor of Market and Main is wonderful. A very nice space with perfect drinks. The bartender that was there was suck a nice dude. I forgot to get his name but I hope when I go back he is here. He had great recommendations and every drink he made was so good.
