Came here for steak night (2nd Thursday) and it was amazing! The vibes are wonderfully chill and the steak was delicious. We love that it comes with a shot + a beer, the perfect way to spend a Thursday. Order everything at the bar - they'll give you your drinks right away and come out with your food later.

After yet another lovely dinner at Mimo, we decided to check out Nickel City on their first night open to the public (read about it on CultureMap). If you're familiar with the original East Austin location, you'll know this bar is a dive with quality spirits with an homage to the city of Buffalo. Their Houston location is on McKinney right on the outskirts of EaDo and right before you cross into the East End. Apparently the Houston location will focus on rum, but the whiskey fans in our group had big ol' googly eyes whilst checking out the whiskey selection. I sipped on a few vodka gimlets, while the beau enjoyed an old fashioned, and the others drank beer and whiskey. Five stars because they have good drinks and spirits, a bar menu that's served semi-late (late for this 40-something), and I'm sure there's a lot more improvements to come! Monday is wing night (I believe we read will be $1), Thursday is steak night... and of course, they sell coneys and crinkle cut fries. There's a patio that appears to still be in the works... Welcome to Houston, NC.

My favorite bar has moved to Houston and I'm LOSING MY MIND.Service is great. Ambiance matches the other locations in the cool/dive bar that isn't nasty and has killer drinks. You can't do better. All the food at del ray's is fire, the whiskey selection is great, and the go-to Irish coffee is always a great way to start the evening.Welcome to the neighborhood!

Found on Yelp after finishing a job in the neighborhood, expecting a "dive bar" with a small food menu. As I was realizing I misjudged the Yelp listing and wasn't fit for the scene with my dirtied clothes from the job-Bar room was clean & attractive atmosphere with groups of friends & couples dressed for an early Friday evening out- an enthusiastic member of the bar staff directed me to a seat at the bar, and began making sure I felt like this was my own neighborhood hangout. The hospitality was matched by the quality of the classic East Coast diner/bodega fare. Thanks to the entire experience, I've added Nickel City's Austin OG location to the itinerary for my upcoming trip.

What a fun new bar in the neighborhood! It seems like they have fun specials almost every night of the week. Street parking was pretty easy and there wasn't a long wait at the bar. The inside is dark and divey, with a cigarette machine. The outside patio is very well-lit, though, so people who prefer either will be happy. The food is also counter service, and you'll get a number to bring your food. My group liked everything we had and will be back to try more!

Good bar with great atmosphere. The food has been good every time I have tried it. The taco tuesday special is a great deal. When in the EADO area you should try it out.

Great neighborhood bar. The bartenders are all super knowledgeable, and they work quick. The bouncers are great. Everyone is so friendly, and Jordan and Joey are my favorites here. Always a great time here.

Noticed a new bar in the neighborhood by my job and I wanted to check it out. A few friends have been and said the bar food is great. While I didn't get to try out the food, I did get a few drinks. It was happy hour and I had the ranch water and my friend had the mojito. Both drinks were great. Also got to watch the bartenders make magic with several other drinks, one even looked like a volcano, flake included! I'll definitely come back. Not only do I need to try out the food, but I really like the aesthetics of the place.

This place is pitch perfect on every level - it hits every Detroit, MI/Buffalo NY note perfectly. Min, the super friendly and helpful bartender, was our delightful host and bourbon guide. Not only were we blown away by the bourbon (and rum) selection, the prices were incredible. The cocktail list is a work of art with prices for every budget. We have a lot to try in the visits ahead! They have all kinds of happy hour and daily drink specials- our heads were spinning. For lunch, my Detroit born husband had the Detroit style dog. Chili was a little thick for Detroit style, but the flavor was spot on. The hot dog had the dreamiest, most incredible snap I've ever had- the best of the best hot dog. We also had the double slider- it was outstanding- especially the grilled onions. We split the loaded tots - the chili was incredible. Next time, we'll skip the cheese- it was that nacho cheese- the gloopy stuff. The chili was so good- we just wanted more of that! We could barely finish half of it - the portion is enormous. We can't wait to come back!

Went to checkout the new Houston location on Saturday as I enjoy the one in Austin.Very similar set up but bigger space (still not that big). Friendly service and great bourbon selection and tiki drinks. Most rare bourbon is $35-75 an oz...I was happy to try old fitz bday for $35 and also try cypb for the first time for $40.My only gripe about nickel city applies to all locations. The process for getting served is survival of the fittest lol. We were waiting in a line for 10 minutes and they started serving other people who didnt. By the time we got to the front, the bartenders decided to have an improptu meeting and all start cleaning instead of serving us...so weird.
