Ttobongee Chicken

This review is much overdue but this has easily become my favorite restaurant to visit in Santa Clara! The restaurant is a little small, but cozy and has nice kpop throwbacks playing if you manage to get seated at a good time. Jjam-Jja-Myeon: 9/10. This is half Jjajangmyeon and half jjamppong in one split bowl (#5 in the combo menu). The portions here are great! The jjajang has a thick and rich sauce, and the jjamppong has a great variety of vegetables and some seafood pieces. I love having the split bowl because it allows me to eat everything I want without wasting money. Tangsuyuk: 10/10. Another favorite! The portion is very large and well suited for 3-4 people if everyone has entrées to eat. The sauce is very sweet and thick, and it comes on the side for those who like dipping rather than pouring. The service was relatively fast- we got our main dishes in 10 minutes, followed by the Tangsuyuk after another ~5 minutes. LOVE Ttobongee and I hope everyone loves it as much as me (it's impossible).

Our group was craving Korean food so we came to here~. Inside is on the smaller end with simple seating and a couple booth seats. We ordered through the kiosk and waited for our food. Here's what we got:Sodduk Sodduk 7.8/10- rice cake and sausage combo with spicy sauce on top- I would've liked the rice cake to be crispier on the outside - but still really good!Yang Nyum Chicken Combo 6.8/10- came out room temperature, seems like it was left out for a few- we still enjoyed the chicken especially the sauces up onesJjajangmyun 8/10- love the amount of sauce and the size!Tangsooyuk 8/10- crispy chicken with sweet and sour sauceIt was a busy night, so it was hard to flag staff to get more water or any kind of additional service. We waited around ~35-40 mins for our main dishes.

Tried black bean noodles and fried pork here to compare with Paik. The fried pork is just as good, crunchy and chewiness from mochi.The noodles is comparable. I think the sauce here is better (less sweet) but the noodles is not as al dente as Paik, but still pretty good.

Ambiance is clean and airy. Chicken is good but expect to wait at least 40 minutes for food to be served.We ordered green onion chicken, kalbi chicken and extra crispy chicken. Also, fried mandu, rice and French fries.Prices are reasonable

Honestly, this place is fire.Went during the weekends and service was great. We only waited for a bit to get seated, order, and get our food.Probably my favorite Korean fried chicken so far. It was crispy with a good flavor and I would come back to try more. It would have been nice to be given rice or kimchi though.Plaza is PACKED though

There was a kiosk there to order, so we tried to order, but then we were told to sit down and order, so I'm not sure exactly what's going on! Service was kind of slow, but it was also a weekend.My friend and I shared a half order of soy garlic and jja jang rice.... we shoulda gotten noodles instead. Not my favorite or go to korean friend chicken spot, but ok for what it is.

Had a fantastic Thanksgiving dinner here with my family. The fried chicken was crispy, juicy, and seasoned well. We tried the half fried rice and jjampong -- the noodles were so good! The fried rice was also good with the sauce they'd added, and my son ate so much of it. Would order it again, and maybe try the other noodle too.The white radish wasn't as good as I remembered, but they brought out some slices of the yellow radish and THAT was so good. They also provided lots of water, bowls, and gloves for us. There were a lot of takeout orders tonight, which is something I would have done too if I was holding a Thanksgiving dinner. There were quite a few parties eating in at the restaurant as well. My husband felt they were a bit slow but I thought it was completely understandable given it is a holiday and to be honest it didn't seem that slow to me.

Came across a TikTok talking about Ttobongee Chicken's jjajangmyun so I stopped by to check it out and I was instantly hooked. The first time I had it, it was so good and I couldn't stop thinking about it and went back less than a month later. Both times I visited, there was no wait and I was seated immediately. I LOVE their sodduck sodduck, the rice cake is a little crispy, the sausage is so juicy and the sauce is a perfect mix of sticky, sweet and salty. Their fried chicken is pretty good but I wouldn't say it ranks amongst the best Korean fried chicken I've tried. The real star of the show is jjajangmyun! I am so incredibly obsessed with these saucy umami black bean noodles. The sauce is so delicious and pairs great with their chewy noodles. We also got the tangsyuk which was crispy and was great with the sweet and sour sauce.

My husband came here with his coworkers one day for lunch and came home raving about how good their fried chicken and jja jang myun were. So we decided to try them out for dinner. Ttobongee is located in the same plaza as Sul*bing Cafe and Beque Korean Grill. For dinner, we came around 5pm and got seated right away since they weren't too busy yet. We had the option to order by QR code but we were given menus and the worker took our order. They had a little robot that delivered food to the tables but we didn't get to experience it because the worker would grab the plates off the robot before it ever made it to our table. Which was fine with us. LOLSo far we've tried.. #1 JJA JANG MYUN $12.99 -black bean noodles. I haven't had many jja jang myun because I was never really a fan. The ones I have tried, tasted plain to me but Ttobongee's version was pretty good. The black bean sauce was tasty but I wished the noodles were a bit chewier. My hubs really liked it though. 3.5/5* #9 THE CRISPY CHICKEN (HALF) $20.99 -extra crispy chicken. We got this boneless. It came with a few little shrimp chips too. They used dark meat chicken. It was very tasty and juicy. The batter had an unexpected spicy kick to it, which I liked. I wished it was crispier though. I'm more of a sauce girl so I do prefer my chicken with sauce on it or at least on the side so I can dip. My hubs really liked it though. 3.5/5* FRENCH FRIES $8.99 -ugh, terrible. They came out hot but so starchy and almost stale in texture. I was expecting thicker seasoned fries like some of their yelp photos..but I guess those pictures were old.. We got thin fries similar to McDonald's but slightly battered. Not worth the price at all! 1/5*#2 YANG NYUM CHICKEN (HALF) $19.99 -fried chicken with sweet and sour korean chili sauce. We got all wings. I thought the sauce was too light for the chicken. We got this one for togo so it wasn't crispy by the time we ate it at home. Will probably be better fresh at the restaurant. 3/5* SODDUK SODDUK $6.99 -skewered rice cakes and mini sausages. We got this one togo too, so it wasn't crispy or warm when I ate it. The rice cakes were a bit tough and chewy. I LOVED the mini sausages, they were smoky..made me want to buy a bag of them from the korean market. I think they used the same sauce for the yang nyum chicken on the sodduk and it was good on them. Again, probably be better fresh at the restaurant because I usually really enjoy this snack. 3.5/5* We also got a heaping bowl of pickled white radishes and yellow radishes when we dined in. The white radishes seemed kinda old or just dry. They were not crispy or juicy. Not enough vinegar for my taste either. Overall, I'm the biggest fan but my hubs likes it.

My favorite chicken place in the bay area! I've tried every flavor but the green onion. I love them all, although maybe the maip dak is just good where as the others are great. The yang nyum chicken is something I've bought every single time I've come, and it keeps bringing me back. Perfect combination of sweet and spicy. The service is always quick. Also, the sodduk sodduk side quickly become one of my favorites as this is the first place I tried it at.
