I randomly walked by this bar and made an impulse decision to drop-in. I didn't realize that they had just opened until after I sat down, I definitely lucked out timing-wise. Customer service was on point. Lily was attentive and made great drinks. The vibes that I got were: inclusive chill neighborhood dive bar. There are pool tables, pinball machines, and TV's. They actively post on IG, their handle is @spatsbar. It looks like they have a mix of themes / events on different days of the week. I can't wait to check out one of their Flashback Fridays. Bathroom had multiple stalls, another plus.

Spats is a chill bar in Berkeley to hang out.I recently visited for an event on a Tuesday afternoon at 4:30, and it was mostly empty, providing a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere. The bar has two sides with plenty of bar and table seating, making it easy to find a spot to sit and enjoy the ambiance.I ordered a mocktail for $5.50, and it was fruity but not too sweet as requested. We ended up staying here for 2 hours chatting, and the staff was very attentive throughout our visit.Overall, I had a great experience at Spats and would definitely recommend it for a laid-back and enjoyable time.It's two blocks from the Berkeley BART, so it's easy to get to. Otherwise you can find street parking nearby.

A good spacious kind of dive bar with televisions to watch sports. The back of the bar has classic pinball machines. The bar has lots of drinks available. This is a good place to stop and meet up for a drink.

Haha this place is hilarious!! I had a bug in my drink and this guy filters it out instead of giving me a new drink. Literally scooped it out and handed it back to me. I kindly asked for a new drink and he said that the alcohol content will kill anything bad in the drink. Horrible customer service. In the future they should just give someone a new drink if there is a bug. It's simple.

SPAT Bar is a true Berkeley gem, catering perfectly to locals with its laid-back yet lively atmosphere. After our high school reunion, a group of us headed over, and they welcomed us with open arms. The drinks were creative, well-balanced, and clearly made with care.What really sets SPAT apart is how deeply rooted it is in the Berkeley spirit. The owner, a Berkeley native, knows the community inside and out, and fostering a space that feels both familiar and exciting. I also love that they host seasonal events, keeping things fresh and engaging year-round. If you're looking for a spot that embodies the local vibe while serving fantastic drinks, SPAT is the place to be.

You can see on the old decor that this bar might have been something more stylish and vibrant many decades ago. It was almost embaressing sitting inside there yesterday, the vibe feels so cheap, like a hillbilly small town bar. The barkeeper felt out of place too, he does not belong in a job of serving people, making you feel unwelcome with his lack of personality. An odd experience, especially for a bar in Berkeley.

My favorite dive bar when I was in seminary. If you have never been to seminary, I recommend it as a life-changing experience. But it's awfully hard and after a long day of being on your best behavior, you really need somewhere to unwind. The food was good dive bar food.

Thanks, Ms. B, for the hospitality! The drinks and service were excellent. My partner and I dropped in after a trip from Calistoga; we were bar hopping and stopped in Napa and had one of the worst experiences at some local bar. After that, we decided to head back to the East Bay, closer to home, and stopped in Berkeley for a night cap. After what we'd been through, some weird hater shit, it was refreshing to be so close to home and have a great vibe and atmosphere. No nonsense! Appreciate you, Ms. B! Thank you!

Yikes, this place may have made the 2nd worst drink i have ever had in my life. I actually felt sick from it later but more of a stomach ache, not nausea. The place is disorganized into 3 separate rooms and 1 of which has pool tables but the walls are too close to play a proper game. This place used to awesome but its pretty much a bad dive bar now. Wont be going back. Sad tho ehat happened to this place.
