We had the meat platter which is suggested for 2. It was perfect amount for regular man ( appetite) and woman. Glad the bbq was on the side. You can drench dunk etc. as you like. Seasoning is done to compliment their bbq sauce. Greens win. Mac n cheese not bad. Yams were tasty but the texture is a personal call. I'm used to slices in my household.Only disappoint for me was the peach cobbler. Just means we have to go back and have the banana pudding.We'll be back. How can you not...? Summary: Food was good, not great. I will give it another shot. I am currently in a credential program for Diversity in Leadership Institute at Bishop O'Dowd on Saturdays. We get about an hour to eat and this is LITERALLY right down the street. I ordered for pick up to maximum time. Upon arrival, food was ready with utensils and still warm even 10 minutes after initial time. Parking was plentiful but challenging to navigate as their food truck is blocking a section of the lot and signage isn't helpful. The inside was narrow but had a couple seats. The staff were pleasant and attentive. They pack in the meat which was great. Ribs and Tri Tip were both well seasoned, but drenched with bbq sauce which, for me, takes away from the craftsmanship of the BBQ. Mac and Cheese was solid but not creamy or cheesy. This was the most disappointing thing. Greens were really good. I want to give their fried chicken a shot.

This place has some great food. Amazing parking is a little tight but it's worth it. The food is great and the owner is very friendly and very nice and has a lot of history and barbecue places. I would recommend this place if you want some good barbecue.

So disappointed. First time customer, ordered the rib dinner. The ribs were 85% fat and 15% tough stringy meat. What a bummer.

The food is good. My friend sent me a food review from a blogger on IG so I stopped by one day after work. The yams and Mac N Cheese are fire. I only gave 3 stars because I'm not a fan of dark meat and they only offer chicken thighs. I wish they had some variety with white and dark meat. Would've given them 5 stars if they had chicken breast.

I just don't know where to start with this review . When I first walked in I was hit with a warm greeting + the aromas of some good cookin' that's always a great sign. Since this was my first time I decided to get the one meat two sides combo and believe me when I say this it did not disappoint the food was so delicious. 2708 98th Ave, Oakland, CA 94605Wow, I've been missing out! This is Roderick's BBQ Restaurant on 98th Ave, up near the I-580 freeway. This place is usually closed when I drive by, but I had a chance to visit on a Saturday. OMG, a real BBQ place. I ordered the Chicken & Ribs Combo Dinner Meal, with Collard Greens and Baked Beans for sides. Very generous servings! Also, got two rolls and lots of napkins. No complaints about the sides. The BBQ Chicken was boneless dark meat. Absolutely perfectly cooked chicken. Moist and tender. If I only ordered BBQ Chicken, this would be a 5-star review. However, the BBQ Ribs were dry and tough. All the sauce in the world can't fix overcooked BBQ ribs. Sadly, I couldn't chew it and had to toss half of it away. But I promise to return, and maybe just order BBQ Chicken and something else....and bump my rating up! Support Local Business!

Best BBQ EVER! I drive from San Jose just for a plate! Never tried something that I didn't love! Fire food and imma be honest... The hospitality is unmatched! You literally walk in wanting some amazing BBQ that you can smell from your car- and walk out- FAMILY! I'm sorry but you don't get that anywhere these days! This whole establishment is amazing! You won't want to hurry up and leave.. You're gonna want to stay awhile and mingle with great conversation! Feel the difference it makes to eat at a family business vs a chain where the food is mid at best! I love the greens, brisket, ribs, catfish, etc. Everything is so delicious!

On the way back from hitting range balls at Chabot Golf Course, I stopped at the inexpensive gas station on 98th Street. My wife, who grew up in Oakland, suggested I try out the barbeque place next door. Even though we don't eat out often because she's an excellent cook, she likes to support local businesses.I ordered the TriTip and Smoked Ribs combo. I got cole slaw and collard greens for sides. An engaging man asked for my name for the to go order so I asked for his. "I'm Roderick. I run this with my son." He said he was going to throw in a yam side order because I might like it. I could feel the pride of Roderick as I received my order.On a rough ride home up the hill, I was fortunate to arrive home without the package tumbling off the seat., I hoped I didn't mash everything together navigating the bumpy terrain as I had done in the past.Upon opening the order at the kitchen table, the plating was excellent, especially for food in a plastic container. Relief for me and good feel number two.My wife tried the sauce first, separated as it should be, and said it was too sweet for me. She added hot sauce but kept it as it was for her sister and her mom who was joining us.She tasted the yam side and also declared it a little sweet. I reminded her how sweet her Thanksgiving yams are with all the butter and cinnamon. By the end of the meal, she declared the yams as her favorite side dish.I liked the collard greens. They were healthy, looked good and tasted great. Try them, you'll like them.The main course meats were tasty and plentiful. Although the order was probably supposed to feed two people, we had plenty for lunch for the four of us.Hats off to you Roderick. Although, we like to try different places, we will be back.
