This is my favorite spot for banh canh. I like that for any of the menu items, you can choose between a thicker broth (which is traditionally found for banh canh) or a "clear" broth which is not thick. Since I prefer the clear broth, this is the only place that I have found that provides this type of broth for banh canh cua. The food also comes out relatively fast every time I have come here.

The Banh Canh Trang Bang was absolutely delicious. The broth was rich and flavorful, the pork was thick, juicy, and well-seasoned, and the pork knuckles had just the right balance of tendon and meat. They were cooked to perfection--chewy but not overly tough. The standout feature, however, was the huyet (blood balls). They were incredibly soft, juicy, and full of flavor, unlike anything I've had at other restaurants. I'm convinced they cooked them fresh rather than using pre-cooked ones. When not prepared properly, blood balls can turn out dry, riddled with holes, and have a metallic taste--but these were perfect. I loved them so much I ordered an extra bowl just for the blood balls! I can't wait to return and try their chao huyet (porridge with blood balls).

** 2 stars now - used to be my favourite banh canh spot in San jose . Ordered #2 $17.99 and #3 $16.99 Soup has msg - felt super super thirsty , sleepy for 2 hours after drinking soup . Crab portion is tiny , pork knuckle is tough no meat , fish cake is burnt and hard. Even pork blood doesnt taste the same as before. Overall Food quality is definitely going downhill.

Ordered eggrolls $6 for 6 small ones and banh canh #3. The eggrolls were fine. The noodle soup was possibly the worst banh canh I've ever had. I've been here before- long ago. I remember it being fine, but the food this time was beyond disappointing. The people are very nice. The area has gone further down hill (did not think that was possible), and there were flies everywhere. NTS: do not return

First time ordering Togo and it will probably be my last time ordering here again. The eggrolls were cold and stale. You know how the texture of the eggroll gets when it's been sitting awhile? Yeah it already had that texture. The fish sauce was soooo watered down! Like huh??? You can even see it there! The worst part is the lettuce... whoever did my order just did not feel like working that day lol becuase look how much lettuce they gave me and they were wilted/soggy too! So bad. I will never order here again. For $8.99 eggrolls... bad. Bahn cahn Hmmmm I thought it was below mid. The meat was tough to chew. The noodles were good. However, the taste of the broth tasted so fishy like maybe it's a fish base broth? Or they boiled it with shrimp and has that shrimp broth smell and taste. The pork was mostly just bones and not enough fattiness to it. $17.50 I am used to home cooked bahn cahn so I guess it was an adventure to try restaurant style bahn cahn. Highly disappointed. Will not return. They really do you wrong with the eggrolls lol

*Very disappointing*I used to like this place and visited often a couple years ago, but now I probably will not order here again. - The price now is absurdly *overpriced* for what came with the order.- They don't even bother to provide a fresh veggie pack. - The broth seems watery and not thick enough.- The banh canh noodle is hard. This is not how it is supposed to be. It should be slightly chewy.- The tiny teaspoon of crab meat and shrimp sausage are dry and sad- The taste is from meh to average.Overall, they are not cooking with love and passion or any common sense. They just don't seem to care. It's not just the ridiculous price that the customers really care about, it's the value that is missing. There is no wow factor or a sense of pleasure after you receive and eat the meal. You just feel ripped off with no pay off. I am left with lots of disappointment, upset and confusion.

Sublime Owner is thereServing customers and as cashier. Female owned. This place is very unique with a different rice noodle than the udon noodle made from wheat flour. They make their own noodles which is different from the udon noodles you buy frozen or fresh. These noodles may have tapioca starch in them. When they are cooked they make the broth thick like a cornstarch slurry was added. The broth is different than ramen and pho places. Slight seafood aroma and slight sweetness from tomato. The broth is red. No beef. Mostly seafood and some pork. The fish cake and shrimp sausage are unique to this restaurant. Delicious rice noodle soups. Light flavor profile from delicate flavor of seafood. No clams or mussels or oysters. They compliment broth with crab or lobster or shrimp since they have shells. When the owner asks you shell or no pick shell. If you pick no shell the crab disappears into the broth dissolving before you can eat it. People think they are being ripped off but they ordered incorrectly. Hidden. Outside of local Vietnamese community this soup place is Undiscovered. Owner speaks English.

This place is just OK.#3, not all that much crabs for the cost if you look at other Yelp photos to compare, I felt like someone ate my crabs. There were 3 Big bones in my bowl that pretty much consumes most of the space so portions are not much. I was still hungry after I ate, which is rare. The soup is a lot thicker than I'm used to, but the flavor is really good. I ate the entire bowl and drank all the soup so that I don't waste any piece of the tiny bit of crab I had. Not sure if I'll be back for this. I really like their hot sauce container though. Lol
