Interior is dated and looking tired. We decided to support the local business in downtown San Jose, and ended up fairly disappointed.1) Food - we ordered the Crab Fried Rice, the green beans and the Miso Salmon dish. The crab fried rice was just ok, nice flavor to it, but lacking noticeable crab meat. The green beans was a favorite, and not overly salty, and was crisp to the bite. The Miso Salmon was disappointing, overcooked fish which made it a tad dry. We waited about 40 minutes for our food. 2) Service - we went in earlier than our reservation time and was seated promptly. However, more people showed up and looked visibly irritated as the host was missing. Many walked up to the bar to get someone to seat them. 3) Price - What a shocker! On top of the expensive food prices ($32 for overcooked salmon), the bill had an extra 3% health service charge, + tax, AND a whopping Service charge more than 22%! On their website, it was stated that it would charge 21% for parties of 6 or more, but we were only a party of 2 and they charged us for that. Thankfully, when we asked the server, he said he could take it off, and we were tipping at a much more reasonable rate. The service wasn't exceptional, especially when I had to go up to the cashier to pay, he asked one of the guys to ring me up and he said NO, and proceeded to do something else. Overall for the amount we paid, 3 entrees that was mediocre with lackluster service, it is highly unlikely we will visit this place again. I've had better service and better food options at the other restaurants at downtown San Jose.

If I could give no stars.... I would. My husband and I were highly disappointed with the food presentation & quality of Mosaic. We made reservations last Friday and upon arriving we were not greeted and just stood around for a few minutes waiting to be tended to until the bartender yelled out asking if we had reservations. We were then seated and were greeted by our waiter whom was very pleasant throughout the evening. We first ordered a round of old fashions which were completely watered down. We brought it to our waiters attention and he promptly made us another round which were a lot better. As an appetizer we ordered the calamari and prawns which were mediocre and unfortunately were the best part of our dinner. For dinner we ordered the $29 Crab fried rice which had a strong fishy odor with barely any visible crab- which was imitation crab at that. The $17 Garlic noodles were okay but not what we expected. Our $29 Roasted chicken dish with Miso Chinese Broccoli / Roasted Carrots / Truffle Mac & Cheese was everything but that.... The chicken was flavorless, Chinese broccoli & roasted carrots were a frozen vegetable medley you would purchase in the frozen aisle at your local grocery store, the Truffle Mac & Cheese was ridiculous and they honestly should be ashamed for even calling it that. It was just cooked pasta with which seemed like melted cheddar on top?Overall we were highly disappointed and kept looking over at Scott's Seafood restaurant across the street wishing we had made a better selection for dinner. We walked out with $200 less in our pocket for a horrible and unsatisfying dinner.

I wrote the below review on Google Maps and the owner responded by reporting what he called my "junk review" - trashy food, trashy management. Arrived late. Not worth the wait. This crab fried rice was $29 and there were only speckles of what I believe to be canned crab. Flavorless and disappointing. They also never got my doordash order so it arrived very delayed.

Run, don't walk away! Had a 6:30 reservation, and couldn't get seated until almost 7. Waiter took 10 minutes to get to our table, and drinks took another 15, but they were so bad, there is no way they were made by a legit bartender. Medium rare steak was well done, shrimp had turned, the veggies were old, and thankfully there was one bright spot: the crab fried rice. We couldn't get the check fast enough and get the hell out of there. Oh, and parking next to the restaurant cost $40!

Where do you go for dinner in downtown San Jose? We have season tickets for Broadway San Jose and come here for six performances a year at the San Jose Center for Performing Arts. Ever since 2017. Always come with a Groupon coupon.3% service fee surcharge, and only $17 off the $50 Groupon, discount good for only 60 days after you purchase it.Prices have increased greatly between 2022 and 2023, up 25% to 100%. Loved the $17 (was $12) garlic noodles but had to pay $14 (was $6) surcharge for adding five shrimp. Now the garlic noodles with shrimp is $31 (was $18). Another favorite is the $37 (was $29) flat iron steak with two prawns which were the size of shrimp. Pricey for a four-ounce piece of steak.Wife's favorite was the $46 seabass (was $38), only gripe was the portion size was four ounces, too tiny.Today she orders the $32 Ahi tuna(was $25). Not quite as fresh as in the past.I order the $12 hot and sour soup(was $6). Comes with plenty of tofu and bamboo shoots, but the hot and sour broth is yellow and not brown in color. Must have run out of the sour broth, as it is not at all sour, and unfortunately has the same color as dishwash water. The $19 yang chow fried rice came with overly salty and old tasting Chinese sausage. Sausage tasted like it had been sitting around for months. Wife ate everything off her Ahi Tuna plate except the seaweed salad, which I ate after she said it was too sour. And she's always complaining about me not eating enough vegetables.

Drinks are way over priced. The bartender took three tries to make a Kettle One Martini. He filled the shaker with watered down ice and I stopped him there. I ask him to please empty the water out. His first attempt had stuff floating in the Martini, he dumped that one. His second attempted he poured it into a chipped glass, dumped that one. His third attempt he got it. Charged us a double surcharge, we were staying at the Four Points Hotel and got $7 off each drink, but he charged us an extra $6 each. It was the only drink we had there. Left frustrated and felt like we had been taken for a ride. A high end restaurant & bar charges around $15 for a Kettle Martini. We stay at the SF Intercontinental Hotel at times. Much nicer hotel / bar and much more reasonable. We would have spent more money there for drinks and maybe breakfast if the prices were more realistic. Good luck to the owner. I feel for your employees.

Had dinner here as part of my jobs holiday party. I ordered the Cesar salad followed by the steak dinner and a cheesecake dessert. The Cesar salad was well dressed and fresh. Loved it.The Steak was cooked to my satisfaction and it was seasoned very well. My steak also came with shrimp, spinach and carrots all tasty except the carrots were overcooked and cold. The cheesecake dessert was room temperature so it wasn't the best. Overall great staff, very friendly and accommodating. Would definitely dine here again. Looking forward to trying out other items on the menu.

Well, it is sad, but Mosaic is on a downward spiral. Ever since the pandemic, it has gotten worse - the service has been bad, due to a lack of servers. This hits every restaurant at the moment, but Mosaic seems to be the worst. Often, there would not be a host/ess at the front desk, and you had to flag someone down to find your reservation. Since we often dine out before a show, it's important we leave enough time, but you always had to plan extra still for Mosaic (such as booking a table for 5:30 if you wanted to be at the California Theater, just down the block, at 7:15). One time, we had to seek out a server (one of two on the whole floor, the other also running the bar) to pay our bill so we'd make it in time. The menu hasn't changed in many years, and there aren't ever any specials to spice it up.Because for the longest time, the food was good, we put up with it now and again - choices for downtown dining have been reduced greatly due to the pandemic, and several of our favs shut down, so in order to have some variety, I'd occasionally book a table at Mosaic despite the bad service.Last Saturday, I made a reservation for three, and, as usual, there was no one at the front desk, but then, the restaurant was empty but for us three. (I later received a notice from Open Table to say the restaurant had canceled our reservation - I guess since no one had noted our arrival and so the system said we were a no-show). It was really weird sitting in the empty place (eventually, two other guests arrived). The server could not deal with my order of the Earthquake Zinfandel - he came back and said, "sorry, we're out of that one, but we have Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay..." and I had to tell him the Earthquake Zinfandel is a red wine.... so he checked again, and eventually brought the right wine.As I said, the food used to be good, but Saturday's selection was.... not. We had three different pasta dishes, and I did not recognize the erstwhile delicious garlic noodles, because there didn't seem to be ANY garlic in them. The portions were much smaller than they used to be, and the food very disappointing - two dishes were bleh, the third too spicy, so one couldn't make out individual tastes. When presented with the bill, it was one for hotel guests, where they assume you charge it to the room....It will take for other reviewers to say Mosaic is back on track for me to try it again.
