I stumbled upon Miyakko a few months ago while at the mall, and it quickly became one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in San Jose! The dimly lit interior creates a cozy and intimate atmosphere. It's perfect for a relaxed dining experience.Their sushi is fresh and delicious, but the real standout for me is their Teriyaki Salmon and Miso Salmon. Both dishes come with a side of miso soup and a fresh salad. The salmon is cooked to perfection! It's so tender it practically melts in your mouth! The crispy, perfectly grilled skin adds an incredible texture that keeps me coming back for more.Beyond their amazing salmon, they have a good selection of bento boxes, sushi rolls, and skewers. If you're a fan of Japanese cuisine, Miyakko is definitely worth a try!

Miyakko is a Japanese restaurant that serves an extensive selection of bento boxes, skewers, omakase sets, and sushi rolls. The menu is quite heavy surprisingly because theres so much to offer here. Interior is pretty dimly lit so the ambiance is quite intimate. The tables are spaced out and quite large so it's good for large parties. * Chicken skewer- I was expecting a juicy chicken thigh cooked over charcoal but the skewer turned out to be a teriyaki chicken on a skewer which was white meat. I was a bit disappointed since it's less traditional, however, I can't really complain because the taste was decent. The teriyaki sauce was just right, sweet and salty while the meat was tender and not as dry as I thought. * Lion king roll - taste is pretty standard for a lion king roll. The salmon was creamy and tender with that baked seared edge. * Shiitake mushroom salad- I saw that this dish was popular so i knew I had to order it. I have to say, this was an all around tasty item. The shiitake mushroom was crispy yet with a nice chewy texture. The ponzu sauce was so light and refreshing. I love how bright this salad was even with a strong sesame oil finish. I would recommend! * Blondie bombshell- This is a tasty roll with lots of contrasting textures. Each bite is buttery, slightly citrusy from the yellowtail, and then you get that tempura crunch. Would also recommend this one! Service was interesting particularly because we had a young, pretty waitress who was just socially awkward in every interaction. We were seated and ignored for about 15 minutes until one of us was finally able to flag down a waiter to take our order. The food took a while to come out, as we waited about 30 minutes for the first sushi roll. During our meal, the young waitress took away my shiitake mushroom salad while I was still working on it. I said "oh no my mushrooms.." and she quickly walked away with the bowl. That was a bit disappointing. Toward the end of the meal, she started clearing out dishes including all of our water cups. So we felt pretty rushed out though it was only 8 pm and there was no line.. in fact the restaurant was basically half empty. Perhaps some staff training could be useful for this restaurant. I've never seen a server take away filled water cups while you're just chit chatting and enjoying your evening. Aside from the slow, awkward servers, the food here is actually pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way for this place but if I'm ever in the South SJ area, Miyakko seems like a good spot for sushi especially if I'm not in a rush.

I promise I will never visit this restaurant again. What a disappointment, especially considering the standards expected from a Japanese restaurant. We arrived at 6 PM on a Sunday, and although there were only 5-6 tables occupied, we waited over 10 minutes without anyone approaching to take our order. We ordered the Sushi Deluxe and the Tonkatsu dinner set. When the sushi arrived, there were no plates provided for us. To make matters worse, one of the sushi pieces (the scallop) was clearly not fresh--so bad it made me want to throw up.The Tonkatsu was mediocre at best--dry and uninspiring. Throughout the meal, none of the servers bothered to clear the table or refill our tea.The experience ended on an even worse note when they gave us the wrong check. I pointed it out to the server, who just walked away without a word. After waiting another 5 minutes, I had to follow up, only to be told they were trying to "figure it out." Seriously? If you don't know how to properly run table service in a restaurant, maybe stick to ringing up orders at a fast-food joint. This restaurant is officially on my blacklist!

I came here with my family for dinner as my 2 boys LOVE sushi/sashimi. It's a small restaurant with very dimmed lighting making it so hard to read the menu. We were hungry so we ordered the following for our family of 4:1. Edamame2. Hirakimo: steamed monkfish liver. It was firm, chewey and fresh but has a slight fishy smell.3. Sake Don: 12 pieces if salmon in a large bowl of rice. Salmon was very fresh. Rice was seasoned. My 9yo almost finished it on his own with a few slices of salmon left but alot of rice not eaten.3. Osaka Special: fresh and thick cuts.4. Spider Roll: A large roll of 4 pieces. Very big pieces. I had to take a couple bites which I really don't like as everything falls out. However, it was good.5. Miyyako Roll: My 11yo son really likes it.6. White tuna tataki roll7. Sumo Roll8. Tobiko nigiri: super crunchy and stuffed w/ tobiko. We order ordered alot of rolls and the combo came with rolls as well. We didn't know how big it would be for the side rolls but it came 6 pieces each. If we knew we would have ordersed 1-2 rolls less. The roll combos were good and fresh though they did not roll it tightly enough. The rolls were all seasoned well so I didn't really need to dip into soy sauce but you need that wasabi kick for sure. Sorry, I couldn't comment on all the rolls. There were too many to remember how it tasted individually. Service was average but the food were good. We will definitely return on the future if we are in the area.

FLAVOR (4.5/5): I tried their 2 item dinner set and was actually really surprised by it! It came with a miso soup which was standard and a light side salad which actually had a really nice miso dressing to it. The meal itself I chose the beef sukiyaki and the tonkatsu. The tonkatsu was super thin and crispy. The beef sukiyaki was definitely on the sweeter side but felt really warming to the stomach on a cold winter day. The sides of tofu, pickles and rice paired with the set very well! INSTAGRAM WORTHY (5/5): The rolls come with the flower and leaf plating. The set dinner comes out on a tray and everything felt so intentional! The restaurant itself is pretty small, intimate booth seating with cushions. SERVICE (3/5): Service is a bit slower, wished all our food came out together so we didn't have to wait to dine together. No one came around to refill water or hot tea. TAKEAWAYS: Would come back for their set dinner again! Can't vouch for their sushi yet.

I have been wanting to try this place for a long time and Im glad we did! Honestly, for the quality of the fish and ingredients, the price point is fair. I love their version of Bento boxes. They have plenty of choices. However, the real steal is the fact that their fish quality is above par. Their sashimi and nigiri portions are big! The staff was also amazing. They def catered to us and took care of us. Definitely a gem in South San Jose!

Back again last weekend! We ordered to-go to celebrate the new lil one (mama needed some sushi!) and ordered the Feast #4 with the Hae dup bop and a chicken Teri teishoku. Fed 6 of us and the lil guy. This has been our local neighborhood spot for some time now and had never disappointed. Made the mistake of forgetting the fresh wasabi which is a MUST!!! Will need to make sure not to do that again.

Overall (4/5):Miyakko is a great drop in sushi spot for smaller parties. Quick and attentive service with fairly priced fish. Personally wouldn't deem this restaurant date night worthy, but a perfect place to grab dinner on a night you don't want to cook. I would probably go for some of their sets next time!Ambiance (3/5):The space could use some love. The seating cushions on the bench are stained and a lot of decor starting to show its age here. Could use a nice little refresh to make things feel clean and taken care of but I wouldn't say these details would keep me from coming back!Service (5/5):Very quick and polite service. They check in on you, and make sure things are squared away. Great job Miyakko team.Food (4/5):Negihama/Tekka Maki (3/5):The negihama could use just a little more green onions and the tekka maki was clearly discolored. Far from un-edible and everything tasted just fine. Would love to see a little more uniformity in the fish/rice!Sashimi Deluxe (4/5):Nice even portions and great freshness overall. We may have caught them on a bad Tuna day, as the tuna is not a vibrant pink/red which is quite unfortunate. Other than that everything tasted great.Hamachi/Saba (5/5):We are very Hamachi + Saba biased so we had to get a side order of nigiri. Pleasantly surprised they've added on extras. I think this is a must have if the restaurant doesn't treat the fish with any light curing. These were a great addition to our meal.

They have a nice menu with lots of options. The dining room is on the smaller side with booths so no great for big groups, but perfect for 4-5 or less. Service was friendly and the bento box was well prepared with fresh ingredients. Good place for lunch or dinner
