OMGeezeReally good food, huge portions, service is A+, one of the best Hawaiian BBQ spots I've been to... literally everything i ordered was delicious. My daughter sweet 16 dinner and all she wanted was chicken katsu. I've had pretty bad katsu from places and didn't want to disappoint her, so of course i had to #yelpeastbayarea and came across iLava ... all the photos looked great, The reviews were great so of course I ordered their family meal for 4 to 5 people because it was gonna be eight people. I also added a garlic, shrimp plate, and an order of spam musubi. Let me to say the family meal for 4 to 5 people could've easily fed a lot more. The Katsu is really good ... none of those fatty , gristle thick cuts of chicken thigh but rather delicious thinly sliced well breaded meat. The bbq beef was thinly sliced cooked well but still tender and easy to chew, had the perfect flavor!The island white fish was fried too perfection very tasty and not fishy at all.. so it was fresh!!!!The garlic shrimp was tasty and just wish they gave more shrimp. The rice was fresh and not mushy or hardHawaiian macaroni salad was the perfect Hawaiian macaroni salad that you expect it was fresh it was chilled and was really good . Every dish also came with fresh steamed cabbage which had a nice crunch while being cooked and NOT raw. I couldn't praise this restaurant enough if I ever went Hawaiian barbecue again this will be the only place I go to. I hope they stay with the same recipes, same chef and don't change them because it was a party. I didn't get much pictures of the food before it was devoured .

Food tasted just like local plate lunches back home in Hawaii. Love that they have katsu sauce and teriyaki sauce in tap lol Prices are somewhat reasonable but you get what you pay for! Location is a bit sketchy, but would come back!

I was craving katsu this past weekend and happened to stumble upon iLava on Yelp. Even though I've driven by the place dozens of time, the location is so discrete, not once did it ever occur to me that a bunch of restaurants operated out of this ghost kitchen.I got the BBQ chicken and katsu combo and it comes with a lot of food - more than enough for two people to share. The katsu is lightly breaded, and well fried - no oily taste at all. If you end up having leftovers of the katsu, you'll be pleased to know it reheats well. The BBQ chicken was decent, but not the moistest piece of chicken I've had. Macaroni salad was pretty standard as well.Food was ready quickly after I placed my order. I will likely stop by again when I'm craving some katsu, but would probably skip the BBQ chicken combo.

iLava Hawaiian BBQ has a new location at the Longfellow Food Pickup at 5333 Adeline in North Oakland. To be clear, this is a ghost kitchen in a Cloud Kitchens Facility. I tried the food on a Saturday afternoon, and it was excellent. It was so fresh, it was like someone just brought it out of the kitchen! Using the DoorDash app, I ordered for self pickup: The #11: "Garlic Shrimp & BBQ Beef." I added a piece of Kaibi Shortrib, and chose Teriyaki Sauce. The meal combo comes with 2 scoops of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad. This order was ready for pickup....on-time. This food was super fresh! The shrimp were juicy moist. The beef was tender, and the shortrib was delicious. If you want to find something to complain about, maybe the rice was sticky. But that depends on your preferences. Pretty good hawaiian food and generous portions. Honestly, one is good enough to share. We tried the chicken katsu and korean ribs, I personally liked the korean ribs more. We ordered right there at kiosk and it took about 20min. I kinda wished they had more outside seating. But more importantly, selling drinks - there was only one option.

Amazing food and very generous portions! Every bite was delicious and I keep coming back excited to discover something new and tasty. This restaurant has some of the best flavors and has made me fall in love with Hawaiian BBQ. I would highly recommend anyone to try this place ASAP. I have tried the Hawaiian Beef, Short Rib, Kalua Pork, Crispy Shrimp, Hawaiian BBQ Chicken, and the Chicken Katsu. All of these were seasoned and cooked perfectly! Also it was my first time having Spam Musubi and it blew my mind, so good! Thanks iLava!
