Hometown Donuts

No frills spot. Local, family owned. Nothing fancy, just deliciously fluffy basic doughnuts and at a great price - which I appreciate. We are losing these genuine spots in favor of trendy/high end/picturesque shops. Super friendly lady behind the counter.

Traditional mom and pop donut shop. Good quality good prices. There are so many uber expensive donut shops popping up that its becoming difficult to find a decent traditional donut shop these days. This is a small family run business - unlike Duncans or Krispy Kreme - huge corporations. There is nothing wrong with the big guys - it is predictable and familiar - but if a smaller run business does just as good or better - its great to patronize. I tend to dislike Krispy Kreme - too gooey. Soggy - greasy somehow. These donuts sold here are big and fluffy and very fresh. Tons of variety as you could imagine and a personal touch too.The area is safe and there is a lot of new construction - hopefully that means more turnover and freshness. Interior is clean and some windows to look out and enjoy.

I've lived in Alameda nearly two years and only just tried Hometown Donuts, mostly because they are both out of the way and only open til 3pm. :( But oh- look at these! They're so fresh! I purchased 8 donuts. The nice lady behind the counter threw in two more and went, "sssh!". They were perfect. I love that they don't try to do a weird, undersized, undercooked, overpriced version of an apple fritter like a lot of these new places try to do. ( They DID have an extra small fritter next to the regular sized version.) Hometown Donuts knows an apple fritter is an apple fritter, and if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Good selection of okay tasting donuts, but overpriced compared to similar donut shops in the area. Customer service was a little meh, too. It was nice there was plenty of seating and tables. I would not come back here again.

I've been craving donuts so I decided to stop by this local shop before dropping off my boyfriend to the ferry.It looked like a normal older donut shop layout format. They sell lotto! I wanted something big and to test out there dough fluff but also a simpler option. They will charge you $0.50 cents if you want to use card under $5 purchase. I found this out cause the counter guy automatically charged me and I questioned it.The dough or chocolate glaze was nothing special. In fact, the dough tasted almost not fresh as in donuts they made this morning but not as bad as grocery store bought donuts. I just don't think I'll be back to give it another shot.

I found the perfect glazed donut here. It's like biting into a fluffy cloud, and the glaze is not too sweet. The baked-in savory croissants are pretty amazing, too. Come earlier if you want a filled donut. Hmm, I think I can just make it in time for lemon custard.

Amazing donuts and good customer service! The lady at the counter was so nice and friendly. She gave me donuts and wished me a Happy New Year. Her kindness meant a lot to me. The donuts are unbelievably tasty and soft. Excellent quality! I am visiting family here since I am from out of town and I haven't had good donuts like these in many years. You won't be disappointed!

Great donuts and love the owners they are very friendly and alway serving fresh donuts daily.

Your neighborhood donut shop. Donuts were fresh, but bit overpriced. Almost $2 per donut is bit steep for a basic old fashioned glazed donut.
