Service was friendly. The place has an authentic charm. The decor is unlike anything you will find in the area. It's a gem that surviving among the new trends. Thank you for keeping it alive.Shepard's pie was tasty. A beautiful display of art with the mash potato's. No veg inside but a good amount on the side. It's def a step up from what veggies taste like in England. The place has its drawbacks- table was wobbly. But the decor makes up for it. It's not easy for this small business to survive among all the trendy new stuff- but we need this little bit of charming Europe in our backyard. Glad you're still here duke!

Ambiance: lovely at first, then the cracks begin to show. Seats look lovely and plush, but turn hostile with hard wood divisions underneath as you try to slide a bit. General signs of neglected maintenance abound.Service was good and friendly, but sparse (we visited on a Sunday night, so not surprised)Food: I ordered the Beef Wellington, my wife ordered the New York Strip (I'm the risk taker of the pair). The Wellington arrived tepid, crust was soggy, and there was no hint of the delicious intermediate layer between meat and crust that distinguishes this dish. The beef itself was dry; I only ate two bites, the second in the forlorn hope that maybe the first (without much meat) was a miss but I'd encounter actual flavor in the second bite. The mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables at least were tasty, but the gravy was watery, nearly transparent, and came on the side in a tiny plastic cup.Her New York Strip was generous in size, but tough, stringy, overcooked and full of gristle. Her baked potato arrived desiccated, as though it had been baked days ago and kept warm every day until someone had the audacity to order it.Their appetizers and burgers might be fine, I haven't tried these, but the restaurant is billed as British, why would we try something we can get just anywhere?Sadly I do not believe I will ever return... their hatred place has potential, but the food was simply awful that early Sunday evening.

Sadly, this place is no longer in a good location. When it opened, Hewlett-Packard was across the street, and many of its employees would come there after work. Now that Apple is there, workers leave on the buses right away, or they eat at one of Apple's many cafeterias. In addition, the shopping centre next-door was much much smaller, and wasn't ethnically focused. Because of the Asian mall, it's easy to overlook this place. Consequently, this places very often nearly empty.Despite no longer being the place for after work drinks or watching English football with rowdy fans, it's still nice. I think the food has improved, and the drink selection is as large as it has always been. The staff is very responsive to guests and even to suggestions for the menu. If you have a large group, you will easily be accommodated either in the back room or in the back half of the main room. There are also nice places for two or four diners along the side.

I dined here once many, many years ago. What with all the construction/changes that have gone on in that area, I thought the restaurant had gone out of business. But they are still there! We went early on a Saturday evening and found most of the clientele seemed to be regulars who patronize the bar. The inside decor looked a bit sad and neglected. Anyway, we came for the English fare. I ordered a veggie pasty, my husband had the Beef Wellington, and we shared. Both dishes were very good, especially the Beef Wellington, which cost a pretty penny; but what else can you expect these days? My one complaint: my soda had too much syrup and was barely drinkable.

Came by for dinner the other day and it was a tasty experience. Parking is plentiful in the surrounding area next to the pub. Dining is available indoors or on the covered patio with heat lamps. They have a couple of servers, one behind the bar and one that roams around the retaurant.Started off with the fish and chips and it reminded me of London! The fish was light, flaky, and juicy! This came with a side of tartar sauce, vinegar, and ketchup. The chips were huge and even came with some potato skins!Moved on to the 8 oz prime rib which was requested medium rare and came out as such. The prime rib was tender and came with some horseradish along with some au jus. Opted for some side of vegetables and onion rings for the entree. The garlic bread was tasty. Lightly toasted with tons of tasty garlic butter. The shepherds pie seemed to be made from ground beef and topped with some mashed potatoes, before being baked in the oven for a bit for some nice crispiness. Opted to get this with a side of vegetables. The interior of the dining room was rather dated. Apparently, the pub is historical as it was moved over from the UK piece by piece...~$33/head after tax and gratuity for dinner. They take credit cards and tip suggestions start at 18% post tax.

Bartender was super cool, he had a really good imported nitro draft from England! There was some random Englishmen yelling, "no," every time I asked for a glass of water, kind of like he was trying to control the bar. Crazy, Englishmen!! Also somebody ate my fries when I went to the Loo....Haha it was probably another drunken Englishmen! Good times! Cheers!!

We came here for dinner last night. The place is an old English pub with old furniture from England. The place is dimly lit and the old furniture clauses the place to have a odd musty smell. The seats in the booths are very lumpy and not very comfortable. I had the shepherds pie with vegetables. The presentation of the dish was beautiful and the potatoes were very good. Sorry to say the rest of the dish was somewhat disappointing. They ratio between meat and potatoes was way off. Although the meat mixture was very tasty there was very little of it. Don't even get me started about these warmed up frozen things they put the side of the plate and call them vegetables. Shame on the Chef for taking sure a shortcut. The most pleasant thing about this dining experience was the service was good and the waiter was nice and friendly.

This long-standing pub nails the old English vibe with a well-worn but cozy interior. Sure, the velvet booths are almost hazardously lumpy, but it just adds to the charm. Service is also friendly and quick, and makes Duke's a great place to enjoy some English cuisine in the South Bay. The shepherd's pie was surprisingly good, and the scotch eggs are a must-try, if only because Duke's is one of the few places in the Bay you can get them. The real stand-outs for me were the sausage rolls, which were encased in a wonderful flakey crust, though the mustard sauce is pretty heavy on the horseradish. As far as drinks, my friend said: "The Old Speckled Hen. A classic English ale on tap did not disappoint." Duke's truly is a gem.

I've dined at this restaurant at least 15 times. Until recently I could say they had the freshest cod around even better than what I had in England. I don't know if it was something with the beer batter recipe or what. It was really delicious. They were nice enough to substitute chips for a small salad, which I really appreciated. The last couple of times I don't know if they've changed cooks, but the fish in the fish and chips dish is not the freshest. I have to give them the benefit of the doubt because the other 15 times were wonderful. I always have a harp and every once in a while wine. This restaurant/bar is not known for its wine so don't be picky. They have so many beers on tap which is great and they're not all IPAs which I dislike. I like the standard lagers. The inside decor is definitely from a bygone era and best not to look too closely. Service is excellent and friendly. If the fish is fresh in the fish and chips dish, this place is a win-win and of course accompanied with a lovely harp.I will add an extra star just because of the excellent beer battered fresh Fish & Chips in the past.

tldr (ambience:4, service:4, food,2)you can most definitely come here to chill. if the restaurant improved food quality, there is definitely potential for a higher rating - even just with the existing menu!"ambience/service"if you're looking for a place to meet up, the environment is about what you would expect for a pub! while the place definitely fits the old english vibe, it is worth noting that the seats aren't all that great.service is fine and relatively efficient!"food/cost/quality"unfortunately, this is probably where the pub doesn't shine.the quality of the caesar salad - just looking at it - was below expectation; cost was reasonable!the shepherd's pie itself was good! but the vegetables on the side were definitely frozen... it's also a bit pricy i think with everything in consideration (but that might just be me)i wouldn't necessarily recommend ordering the beef wellington. taste and quality don't justify the cost.
