"New ownership. Prices went up, but I think the food actually tastes a little better. Less items on menu but they seem to be in the process of changing a bunch of things. New employees were nice and trying to be helpful. The atmosphere is mostly the same. Would go back when craving fishing and chips."
"I heard Fish Day recently renovated and rebranded to K Kitchen and Fish Day. Previous version was very yummy so thought it would be worth a try. I visited on a Saturday during lunch time. STARS (stand out qualities)-customer service was one of the biggest stars. the owner-couple were so warm, responsive and helpful-local business owned by people of color -food was good quality AND quantity-food came out freshly made and hot -food presentation was nice -owners gave extra for certain banchan since we ate it quickly-reusable eatingware -beautiful interior dining area with booths and tables/chairs-clean bathroom -plenty of parking STAIRS (areas of growth)-recommend compostable or biodegradable large takeout boxes (they did have small compostable ones) -prices feel high to me but I think they are competitive Bay Area prices. Worth the price for all the stars above TIPS-prepare for cash payment if you want discounted prices-I recommend the Chive Seafood Jeon and Ddeokbokki and which was very flavorful and packed with good ingredients -bring friends, family and coworkers! Seems to be a hidden gem at the moment"

"Very delicious crispy fish and chips. This is a nice clean restaurant with a big shady patio. The menu looks fabulous but we decided on two basic fish and chips to kind of set the bar. Absolutely delicious and fresh. You can see the fish being cooked! Everyone is super cheerful and gracious. They loaded us up with lemons and sauces. Wonderful! Highly recommend."
"Was in the mood to step out of my normal food comfort zone so I decided to give this place a shot and order something light. The ambiance of this place matched with the rest of San Pedro Market, with that sort of rustic feeling from the wood and the lighting, and a lot of the items on the menu looked tempting. We got the Carne Asada Fries to go and took them back home, which I think may have either been thirty minutes or an hour. The fries had gone a bit limp since then, but I imagine that they would be much stronger if I had eaten them fresh. The sauce, meat and little veggies over the fries gave it a strong, savory flavor, which the people I was eating with described as "too salty."Overall this was a pleasant experience, and I would be open to trying some of their other dishes in the future."
"Them fish n' chips are jumbolicious! Not only are the fish n' chips jumbo but their fried zucchini are also jumbolicious! Their batter is really good because the fried food stayed crunchy even when I got back home with my take-out. This is definitely a gem in Hayward/San Leandro. Fish n' Chips - large pieces of fish, large steak friesFried Zucchini - large pieces of zucchini fried in crispy crunchy batterThe only draw back is the sauce, they don't give you enough for all those big o' pieces of food. Its located in a small strip mall. parking is awkward but do-able! Decor is very British! Fun!"
"The best fish and chips around period. Well established for many years great service great food a bit small inside but don't pass on ordering here. Small interior to sit but worth it. Can't wait to be back."
"I was craving fish so bad today and my husband reminded me that hofap is now on doordash..that was an immediate yes for me and for us. I've eaten at this establishment on and off for many years and just like many years ago as of today the food is and always will be A-1. Fish crispy hot and fresh and so was the fries. This is my second time around with DoorDash and it will not be my last."

Their fish and chips are still fabulous! It looks like it's an end of an era. I went in here for fish and chips and saw the place looks very different I hope this place stays in business, and the new owners are successful .

Husband and wife restaurant. The food and service are excellent! They serve large portions so keep that in mind when ordering. Even the appetizers are large. We ordered quite a bit of food and it all tasted great.Very friendly owners.Nice modern looking decor that has good lighting. Plenty of seating too.I found this restaurant on Yelp after a long day on the peninsula and based on the good reviews I gave it a try. Not disappointed!

MY TO GO TO SPOT FOR FISH AND CHIPS! This place is so so good! If you're local this is the spot to get fish and chips!! The batter is delicious and the food is always fresh whenever I go here to eat. Only downside is that there's not much parking spaces in the parking lot. They do share the lot with other businesses and the lot can be a bit narrow when driving in or out- tight parking spaces. Besides that the portions here are great value and generous and keeps me coming back often! I highly recommend!

I had previously dined at this location with no issues. At this last visit, this is our opinion of the dishes we tried:1) Fish & chips - the fish inside was soggy and lacked taste and had an off-taste. Had to ask for vinegar and ended up tossing away more than half of the fish..2) Clam chowder bowl - lacked any clam flavor and I could not really find any clams.3) Fried oysters - these were as expected but I ended up removing the oysters from the fried batter and placed them inside the clam chowder bowl to add some flavor to it.It is unlikely that we will return to dine here.

I grew up with a British woman, so trips to the UK were had and the genuine and obligatory fish n chips was always had. Aside from that if we wanted Fish n chip there was H.S. salt fish and chips, but those are far and few in between these days. I was searching for something different and had a craving for fish n chips, before heading to work and found this place. It's hidden in a corner part of the strip mall and walking it reminds me a dark British pub, the black walls may contribute. However they have a good selection of fish n chip meals, shrimp and eve some limited chinese food on the menu.Ordered the two piece fish meal. It was nice to see that the fish was cooked after I placed my order. It came out like under 10 minutes. And the piece of cod were huge. There was a good portion of steak fries that came with it. It came with a two sides of tarter sauce. There's an area with malt vinegar, salt, and ketchup. This reminds me Definitely of my fish n chips from my childhood and recent trip to the UK. Nice breading and slightly greasyI will be frequenting this place in person or delivery to work for lunch.

For the amount of food, the price is pretty good. I ordered the platter which includes a little bit of everything. (Fish, shrimp, scallop, oysters, and fries ). Everything had a great crispiness to it. The shrimp was a bit dry. They butterfly it and then fry, I think if left whole, it would have maintained moist. Everything was very bland, including the dipping sauce. I couldn't tell if it was suppose to be tartar or ranch.... I also got the clam chowder. There wasn't much flavor either. It tasted mostly of cream and potato. I had to add salt to it. If there was a bit more seasoning to everything, I think this place would be great, because by far this has the best crispy batter.

GOOD FRIDAY - SNAPPER AND PRAWNSOn the last Friday before Easter I drove here on a rainy day for lunch. When I arrived I noticed there was no place to eat inside. Outside I looked at the menu on the window. I knew I was going to get the fish and prawns combo. What's intriguing about the menu of this eatery is you can order a different type of fish. Normally at fish and chips joints the fish is cod. I love catfish, but I wanted to try something different. I wasn't going to order tilapia as that fish growing up as a Filipino Catholic reminds me too much of Lent. It was that fish made me rebel on eating fish on Fridays during Lent. I decided to get snapper. The combo came with two sides order. I ordered fries and coleslaw. After I placed my order the cashier informed me that I would be waiting for 25-30 minutes. As it was raining I stayed inside my car until my order was ready.Since there was no place to eat inside I got my order and went home. Throughout the 15-minute drive in the rain I wondered if the snapper, prawns, and fries would be soggy before I took a bite home. When I took a bite of my meal the fries and breading on the fish were still crispy. The reason why is because as I got the paper bag from the cashier she left an opening on the bag. This releases the steam, which makes the fried food soggy. The snapper provides a different texture than catfish, which is an oily fish. I've ate a whole fried snapper before, but never in pieces that were breaded and deep fried. The snapper has a meaty texture. What enhances this texture is the cornmeal breading. This crunchy breading absorbs the oil. The fries I had were the crinkle cut, which the appearance almost always make them look crispy. The fries were crispy. The prawns were butterflied. Most of the prawns can be too watery, but the prawns I ordered from Family House of Fish and Poultry weren't.After consuming the fish and prawns combo I didn't feel queasy. The breading was crispy, but not oily. As catfish is my favorite fish I order it if I decide to get fish. Since Lent will be over after Easter I can see myself ordering the chicken wings the next time I come Family House of Fish and Poultry.

I ordered delivery for my family and it was just okay. The prawns were fried well and my family enjoyed that but the catfish was not fried hard at all and was quit slimy. Overall, you can get better fried seafood from JJ's.

"For years, I passed this location up and I've always wanted to stop and give them a try. in February my husband and I stopped by and I ordered the fried chicken wing meal with a side of red beans and rice and collards. My husband went with the oxtails over rice and gravy. My honest opinion is that the food lacked salt and seasoning, and I am someone who does not add a lot of salt to my food. The chicken and snapper were cooked to perfection as were the oxtails, but they needed a little bit of salt. I have the same opinion for the sides. Everything is made with love by the hands of hard-working people and I recommend you come and give it a try and form your own opinion."
"The other day my job had me in downtown Oakland, and I decided to try the fried catfish at this small restaurant. I ordered the Catfish Combo w/ a salad instead of fries. Also, an order of onion rings. The person who took my order was nice and polite. I finally get my food after a short wait. Okay, the fried catfish was good. It was fresh, moist and the meat was flaky. However, the tartar sauce wasn't tartar sauce. It was some sort of salad dressing, maybe ranch dressing? I paid for extra tartar sauce, and both containers were some sort of salad dressing. Now, the onion rings. I like my onion rings battered and deep fried. These rings were limp, soggy, and breaded. They appeared either baked or microwaved. Not crispy at all. This place would of received 4-stars if I didn't order the onion rings.Would I return? No thanks"
"We walked in and was pleasantly greeted! It smelled amazing. Mrs. Dixon came out greeted us and made a few suggestions. I got sole and wings, greens and Mac n cheese! It made me lick my fingers! I had plenty of tarter sauce, hot sauce and ketchup. Some places are so cheap and give you the bare minimum! Not here I had left overs. My daughter got fish and oysters, Spaghetti and greens. She said if she worked there she would be so so so fat because the food was so delicious. Not to mention we got to hickey punch and it was so cold Quinn start Thursday we usually get two or three cans of peas in the one tiki punch actually worked for us we we just got one each. Thanks Dixon keep up the great work we will be there"
"I'm from Long Beach, and I must say this is the BEST fish I've ever had! We don't have a place that comes close to this in the LA/LB area. Hole in the walls have some of the best food, and this one proves it! The cat fish and shrimp is AMAZING!!! When I'm back in Oakland, I'll definitely be back!"
"Watched the Champions League final at this pub. Located in the San Pedro Market Square with a parking garage nearby. We loved the atmosphere! Was buzzing with soccer fans. Loads of TV screens on all sides. The service was great. Enjoyed Calamari strips, Big Ben Burger, fish and chips.Planning to come back for the Euro games!"
"Idk how I haven't done a review. I love this place. Eat here at least twice a month. They have the BEST crunchy shrimp tacos! They deep fry the shell and it's so good! They've very clean and polite! The menu consist of non meat options so that's a plus for me. They often have cookie and agua fresca too. My kid loves their street tacos. Better than most taco trucks around here."
"I came here with my fiance for lunch on a Saturday around 12:30. It was a bit busy but we were quickly greeted and seated. The servers were quick and attentive. We ordered 12 oysters, the crab sandwich, the lobster roll, and a bowl of clam chowder. The oysters were good and satisfied our craving. My fiance and I gave the lobster roll and crab sandwich a 10/10. The crab sandwich came with fries and the lobster roll came with two sides. The clam chowder was super creamy and filled with clams. Overall, it was a very enjoyable meal."
"Good hole in the wall in San Jose!! Food is overall really good, everything comes out hot and freshly made. I personally got the 4 Prawns and Fish combo platter with garlic fries. Garlic fries have plenty of fresh garlic, and the prawns and fish are battered and cooked well. My table also got the clam chowder, fish and chips, fish tacos, and cheesy garlic bread. The cheese bread is definitely a stand out! Yummy, cheesy, garlicky -- nothing to dislike about it. Inside is small so be wary of coming with parties of 5 or more. Service was quick and friendly! Also located next to the SJ famous Pastelaria."
