Bit of Ireland Bakery

My family has been coming here for decades. From living in San Leandro to union city we still come here. My favorite bread is the one with cheese and sausage inside. The service never disappoints, it's such a homey vibe whenever I go because it reminds me of my childhood. They sell out of their pastries QUICK like sometimes I can't even get my favorite pastry lol my daughter loves their croissants! My dad gets there as soon as they open just to get his hands on his fav pastries for the week!

I don't know the backstory behind this strip mall bakery, but I figured this modest-looking operation might be more interesting than hangin' with the homies at Lee's Donuts. I was hoping an Irish step dancer would come out in full sparkly costume, but no hint of "Riverdance" here. I asked the woman behind the counter what they were most famous for, and she said the Irish soda bread. Sounded authentic, but they were out by the time I arrived late in the afternoon. They still had several cookies left though, so I picked out a few.I went for a couple of the Birdnest cookies, a house specialty which weren't the haystacks I expected but a butter cookie covered in sliced almonds (photo: https://bit.ly/3N6ULtM). I also tried a couple of Rum cookies, which tasted more like sugar cookies dipped in chocolate (photo: https://bit.ly/3xBbkZj). I ended my edible debauchery with a couple of Peanut Butter cookies because I knew I'd like those (photo: https://bit.ly/3zP9MxE). I was right, and the others were fine if not all that distinctive. Im not sure why they call. this place Bit of Ireland when they have regular cookies and pastries that can be found anywhere. Where is the "bit of Ireland?" I got a couple cookies and they weren't very good and customer service wasn't very good either.

I had been wanting to check this place out for awhile since I had friends that I was meeting for dinner and thought it would be nice to bring something Irish with me. When I walked in, I was not only disappointed but super surprised at the selection of items. Cookies that were in poor quality, danishes, muffins and a few other items (challah) but not ONE thing that was Irish. I asked the woman working there where the Irish items were, she said they sold out earlier. I asked her what those items were...Irish soda bread and scones. I decided to get a cappuccino and a cookie to go with it. Cookie was stale and I have had better cappuccinos out of a machine . I think the owners need to remove the "Irish" off of their sign...you clearly have no idea.

I had to stop at this bakery/ coffee shop. After all my heritage is mostly Irish. In jest I asked the very sweet Asian lady if she and her Asian husband were Irish ( they were obviously the owners). She laughed and said " you certainly ARE Irish. No, but my son-in-law is". Very nice people and THE BEST Straight up shot of Espresso I have had outside of Europe. Low acid and absolutely DELICIOUS flavor. Pastry was good too....And, you don't have to be Irish, but a "bit" won't hurt.

Fresh pastries, nice service, seems like an elderly couple that run this place, I got lucky here once they had an extra Key Lime Pie , I bought it, so delicious . You can order one in advance here.

The carrot cake from here and the frosted sugar cookies are to die for. I've been coming here since I was a kid and the sweets don't disappoint!

Ran out of donuts at Lee's decided to swing by here I'm glad I did. The pastries here are so good! Not that sweet but still light and fluffy packing with flavor, pairs well with coffee! Little Chinese lady at the front desk way nice too! Cute little seatings to enjoy your choice of coffee and pastry. I recommend the bear claws!! Macarons are a bit pricey but lots of flavors to choose from!

We had a 30th birthday party and I requested a red velvet cake with chocolate chips and cream cheese filling. It was so delicious! My guests loved and wanted to know where I got the cake. The design was simple and elegant. Running around at the last minute, I'm so glad I had them deliver it too! Thank you Lucia for assisting me!

This bakery has gone down hill over the years.Customer service is terrible inventory is very low. I asked why there was so much trash out front and the lady who I think is the owner said it was the homeless. Well this inside and outside of this bakery looked like it was cleaned about a year ago. I will not but anything from a dirty bakery.Owner was an Asian lady and just blamed everything on other people. She took no ownership of her business. Find another spot in San Leandro that cares
