My workplace catered this place and I thought it was delicious, so I had to come give the restaurant a try. The place is small and has limited seating, but I think most people get takeout here, so I didn't have a problem sitting and eating. The staff were very friendly and let me swap the coleslaw with rice/beans no problem.Jerk Chicken: Delicious! Super tender and the flavor was amazing. There is an oily sauce on the chicken and extra on the side that made this so good. The dish comes with fried plantains as well and were a perfect pairing to the chicken. This is a must get!Boneless Pork Plate: I love the BBQ flavor of the pork. The portion was huge as well. The BBQ sauce is similar to American BBQ and I was all for it. The pork was super tender and there were some fatty pieces that bursted with flavor with every bite.

Me and my partner decided to travel up to San Jose for my birthday festivities and I was really craving for some oxtails. I've been hearing about Jamaican oxtails so I decided to give this place a try and man oh man. What have I been missing out on! It was fairly easy to get to this restaurant and the server was on hand and so helpful to answer all my questions to their menu I've never had Jamaican food before so I was nervous and excited too.I decided on their jerk chicken and oxtail platter to go. When I sat down to eat and they gave so much food I'm their packed container! It came with 3 drumsticks, 4 oxtails, Jamaican rice and beans, and fried plantains and enough sauce at the bottom too. That flavor combo with a bite of everything was divine! It had a nice heat flavor too. The fried plaintain was stjll so crispy even after 2 hours and its sweetness mellowed out the spice and savoryness. This place has their flavor profile on point as im a cook and look for that balance of flavors when i go out to eat. Ive tried so many restaurants and this is one restaurant that understands flavor profile. I definitely cannot wait to come back to San Jose just for this dish. (I had to get a new phone cause I water damaged it, so I lost the photos to alot of my places I ate at, but will post photos when I go back)

Food is always top tier. I ordered to go, which was easily done online. The food was actually ready to go way sooner than expected. I bought the salmon rice bowl and it was phenomenal, even after a ten minute drive. Flavor is out of the world. Portions are more than enough. You do pay for what you get, so expect to dish out a bit of cash. I can't wait to go back.

I love Back A Yard and I have never experienced a bad meal or bad service at any location! This time around, I had the jerk chicken & salmon plate. It was cooked perfectly and didn't have that fishy taste. The chicken had the best crunchy skin. The plantains were so delicious. I love it when the ends are a tad bit crunchy. The rice and beans was also very good. And of course, the jerk sauce! I need some of that in a bottle to go!

I was sad that the DTSJ location closed, but so happy there's still one locally for me to enjoy all the yummy jerk goodness. My wife loves the Jerk Pork, but my favorite is always the Jerk Oxtail and Jerk Chicken Combo. The spicy Jerk Pork and Chicken are grilled to perfect, moist, and flavor packed. It complements the subtly sweet and savory rice and peas, and the sweet plantains very well. The tender and gelatinous oxtail is one of my favorite bites in SJ and best enjoyed with a Red Stripe Beer! They also have yummy traditional BBQ options for you to choose from. Their festivals and beef patties are super yummy too.

Great place for Jamaican cuisine! The herbs and spices used to season each dish is packed with flavor. The oxtail's officially my favorite along with their jerk chicken (both have very tender meat and generously seasoned). My partner and I ordered a sangria and it's a little dangerous. They make it themselves and has that nice sweet and tarte flavor. There's a hint of booze towards the end but not overpowering. The sauce/gravy might look A LOT - but it balanced out with their rice and peas. The plantain also makes for a nice treat afterwards. Overall, very filling and worth the price.

First time trying Jamaican/Carribean food & it definitely won't be my last! I got the jerk chicken/beef oxtail combo as my entree and also tried the Jamaican Beef Patty. The combo comes with rice and plantains on the side. Both the jerk chicken and oxtail were super flavorful in their own ways. Both were also cooked perfectly, so tender and meaty. Oxtail literally falls off the bone. I liked the rice infused with beans too despite not liking beans, because it really all tastes good when you eat it with the gravies and sauces on the meat. Only thing I didn't like was the plantains, but I've never been a fan anyways. Also, the plate was a tad too salty after I kept eating. Jamaican Beef Patty was tasty! Flaky on the outside, savory beef filling with a touch of sweetness from what I think is onion. $18.95 for a plate is a bit on the more expensive end for a fast food/takeout type of chain but don't be fooled! The amount of food you get is well worth it. It was very very filling and could definitely last me two meals. Service here was very friendly and helpful. Very casual spot to eat, and I see lots of people ordering to-go.

Returned to Back A Yard, recently and the food was as tasty as I remembered: a great balance of heat and a hint of bold flavors. I personally enjoyed the kick, but my dining companion found the spiciness a bit overwhelming and wished for more of the underlying flavors to shine through.Service was prompt, there were very few people in the restaurant, which was a pleasant surprise. We had originally planned to take the food to-go to avoid crowds, but since the place was so quiet, we decided to stay in and enjoy our meal there. The restaurant itself was clean and well-lit, creating a comfortable dining environment. Overall, I'd give Back A Yard a solid 3 stars. While the food was flavorful for my taste, it may not suit everyone's preference, especially if you're sensitive to spice.

Back A Yard is so damn good! It's reasonably priced for the portion you get!I recommended the curried goat and jerked chicken.Curried goat had a generous serving of protein, packed with flavor, and heat! Jerked chicken was equally flavorful. The jerk sauce did elevate it.
