This is one of my favorite places to get Jamaican food, their jerk sauce is the best I've tried and believe me I have had jerk chicken in the home country. Last I was to the downtown location back it was across Taco Bell and now they moved to closer towards campus. Jerk chicken and oxtail combo $19Service: Incredibly friendly and homey workers. They do give free plantains if you show that you've commented on their Instagram. Ambiance: It's small inside, no seating indoorsJerk Chicken (5/5): I haven't had their jerk chicken in a while since I usually prefer oxtail but this blew me away. I felt like I had taken a bite of heaven from this chicken, it was incredibly flavorful/juicyOxtail (4/5): It's always consistently flavorful, tender, and huge pieces. I noticed this location does better in their chicken than the capital location, which does better in oxtail. Beef patty $3.75 (3.5/5): It's pretty cheap on the go type food, they have a variety of fillings such as beef, chicken, and vegetables. It was good, I don't remember being memorable. They have 4 different sauces to try that you can add onto itIt's convenient to be within walking distance of campus, highly recommend if you're grabbing a bite around the area. You won't be disappointed

been to this spot quite a few times already. I been to the campbell spot as well. this one is closer. I usually get my carribean itch once every month or every other month. last time I had the jerk chicken and goat curry. I particularly like the goat curry which is available everyday. this time I got the oxtail plate and goat curry a la cart. I thought the oxtail plate was awesome. not too into the sides. the rice and bananas. probably will just go for the oxtail a la cart next time. carribbean curry is a bit more flavorful. it has a little extra spice. i think it is a somewhat mix of indian curry with more star anise and more peppers. definitely different. goes really good with rice. I like indian curry with nan. very happy with the food today. total was in the 30s. each item is over $15 i think. didn't check the prices. always around 30s for 2 dishes.

Little takeout oriented spot right across from SJSU's campus. They do have a few tables, and I ate there. The beef oxtails plate was really good. I think the oxtails were quite tender and fell off the bone pretty easily. Some of the pieces had a few bone shards and on a couple of the pieces I ate the meat stuck to the bone just a little bit and was difficult to gnaw off (especially in front of company), but really tasty and spiced well! I would recommend this one for sure. Red beans and rice has a lot of rice and not so many beans, but it's seasoned well with salt which I enjoyed. Fried plantains were good as well, I especially enjoy the crispy bits on them.Overall pretty good! I've not had that much Caribbean food and there aren't too many options here in San Jose to compare to, but I enjoyed the food here so I'll definitely return.

We stopped in before a BayFC game and were greeted with about half a dozen folks waiting for their orders ahead of us. As is the joke with Caribbean places, I can't recommend coming here if you're in a rush because it took a while for us to place our orders and receive our food. With that said, we weren't in a rush so we were okay with the wait. Unfortunately, they were down a table and don't have many to begin with, which meant we had to eat off of our laps. Not a problem for the many folks that picked up to go orders, but it would have made my experience a lot better if we were able to properly dine in. With that said, I liked the oxtails and I think you definitely get what you pay for. In fact, if I was at home I would have made this into two meals since they're big enough to split. I wasn't a fan of their hot sauces, which you have to pay extra for, but to each their own.

I've only eaten take out from here, but the food is terrific. We get the oxtails and Jerk chicken and occasionally the corn festivals. The portions are enormous and generously priced, so you get a lot of bang for your buck. The coconut rice and the plantains are a great compliment to the main course. The limited service I've recieved has been pleasant.

I waited too long to try Back A Yard and let me tell you if I could go back in time I would have been eating here for decades.Very quant and intimate location right aside SJU. Private parking lot available just know it can get full quick. Our hostess was very knowledgeable about recommendations and how to make the most out of your experience. Now the food....the food speaks for itself. I cannot rant enough about the flavor that exuded from my plate: every single bite was amazing. Can't wait to go and explore the menu more.

Solid Caribbean food. We used to frequent the downtown San Jose location which had indoor seating before that location was closed. This location is really for take out as there is no indoor seating and only two tables on the outside patio. My go to order is the jerk chicken and oxtail combo. It's amazing and I always get an extra order of the plantains. The food can be a bit salty, but it's offset by the rice and beans, so overall flavor is amazing. This location is right across from SJSU, so it gets busy during lunchtime. No bathrooms here so plan to take your food away.

My favorite thing to order here are the oxtails. I also like the jerk pork. Unfortunately last time we ordered to go I ordered plantains and when I opened the box at home some were so burnt they were black and crispy. The food isn't cheap so I was really disappointed by this. Next time I order to go I will be sure to check my food before leaving the establishment.

I've eaten at back a yard many times and have slightly different experiences at each location. I'm starting to believe this is a franchise and each location does their own thing. The food is definitely different. It took a while for us to receive our food, but at least it was fresh. The space is small with outdoor dining only. More suitable for takeout. The ginger beer, both bottled and freshly made are a no for me. The oxtail were mediocre, but the curry goat and jerk chicken were winners!
