After the matinee showing of The Outsiders at the Bernard Jacob Theatre, walked a few blocks to this steak house because it is convenient from the theatre. Was surprised that they have a restaurant week special of choice of 4 mains, choice of 4 appetizers, choice of 3 desserts with coffee or tea for $60.I ordered the Fried Calamari for appetizer, Ribeye rare for main, NY cheesecake for dessert with tea after dinner. Wife ordered the Caesar Salad for appetizer, Filet Mignon medium rare for main, Tiramisu for dessert with coffee after dinner. All the dishes were large so we shared them together. In fact, so much steak were left that I had them packed with the mashed potatoes and asparagus for lunch next day at the US Open. Just trying to "stretch" the dollar for our trip to New York for the US Open!

This place, sadly was disappointing. Service was slow and seemed inexperienced. First, what's good.. The French Onion Soup was really good, and the only reason I'm not rating this restaurant with 2 stars. A lot more was not good.. We ordered Pasta that was over-cooked and a Filet medium rare, that was served rare (Dark red bloody thru 3/4 of the steak and blood on the plate after cutting into it) ..yes I know what medium rare should be.. this was Rare. our server either did not know.. or more likely, didn't want to take initiative to send it back to the kitchen. He could see it wasn't right. I'd also have expected to see some management oversight and checking on guest experiences.. there was none of that either. To sum it up, best case is this place is inconsistent, likely this place is just simply over-rated.

Empire steak was a great place in NYC to dine with a large group. We had a party of fifteen people and I thought the kitchen did a good job preparing the food to all come out at once. I really enjoyed the Mac and cheese which was super creamy and cheesy. The service was a bit lacking. It took nearly thirty minutes for us to get menus. Since the service was slow we did not order apps or many drinks. If the service was better we would have ordered a lot more.

Came for the first time this past Tuesday evening. It was a good dinner, but I am conflicted about a couple of things. My fillet au Poirve was absolutely stellar, Wonderful, piping-hot baked potato, and my dining companion's steak was gorgeous as well. The onion rings were a crashing disappointment, barely warm and definitely not crispy. Here's where my dissatisfaction begins: it seems there is "team service" at this steakhouse. There were three people seeing to my table, and the one person that I told about the onion rings dropped the ball. I had stated my dissatisfaction, and that I would like a new order, but nothing ever happened. The plate of pale, limp rings was left on our table. Even as plates were being cleared, I commented to the server "I suppose we won't be getting that re-order of onion rings?" to which he said "You want more onion rings?" We ultimately were also charged for the disappointing onion rings. While I'm sure team service is a successful formula for them, I found it to be frustrating and confusing. My other two issues were that the music being played at the restaurant was an 80s playlist. I heard Def Leppard, Roxette, and Phil Collins while dining at a "posh steakhouse". Finally, Empire has a custom, clearly, where multiple members of staff sing happy birthday to tables that have a birthday celebrate. This is a full-scale, loud production. Within the space of my one hour and 20 minute meal, there were three different birthdays, and the spectacle of the "happy birthday" song derailed the calm and peaceful evening that I was hoping to have at this restaurant. The steaks were spectacular, but I am left with lingering dissatisfaction at the service, the soundtrack, and they are disruptive practice of "the happy birthday song".

First time trying empire steak and it was definitely good. The fried calamari was my favorite appetizer for sure. The meatballs in red sauce were pretty good and the tomatoes with mozzerella were not bad either. The oil on the table was really high quality so that was awesome. The NY strip was cooked nicely and I enjoyed the meal overall. The waiters were extremely fast and nice.

First time here for restaurant week lunch. Service was excellent and very friendly. The food and ambiance were good. I wish the portions of mashed potatoes and veggie were a bit bigger, but that is my only complaint on the food. My slightly bigger complaint was the difficulty in maneuvering inside of the bathroom stalls. There is literally no room between the toilet and the stall door.

I thought I already covered this. We ate here in November, when we were in town for the Baron conference. This place is EPIC. Large, dark dining rooms, carpeting, white tablecloths, upper tier service, and your water and wine glasses don't go empty.I ordered their larger filet, medium rare, with sautéed spinach. My wife ordered their smaller filet, medium rare, with sautéed spinach. I also had their French Onion Soup.First, the soup: It was served hot, piping hot with a nice, melted layer of mozzarella cheese in a ceramic bowl. It had plenty of onions, and made me remember what good French Onion Soup tastes like. The filet was served, and it was cooked to order, exquisitely tender and tasted fantastic. I was cutting it in progressively smaller pieces to enjoy it longer. My wife had a similar cut, tender, and delightful on the palate. The wine list was impressive. They even had Chateau Y'quem available, which was a bit beyond my budget, but the first place ever I'd seen that. It took a while to sort through their impressive array of Cabernets, but I finally found one, which was outstanding. For a finish, we split their Crème Brule, which had a nice, caramelized top and was very tasty and delightfully light. The service was absolutely spot on, helpful, and polite. The manager made several visits to see how our dinner was.If you are in New York in the Times Square area, you have to stop in. If you love steak as much as I do, this is one you don't want to miss.

I am not sure how the reviews are so high? Yelp is usually pretty accurate but not this time.Service was a 4 star. The staff was attentive and food was served timely. Some of the staff couldn't understand our requests. Food was just ok. The eggplant was ok, tasted like a frozen patty smothered in cheese. Ravioli was the best part of the meal. Salmon was tasteless. The biggest disappoint were the salads. Several people didn't want steak, so they order salads. $20 for a small bowl of lettuce and $26 for the Empire salad which is a bowl of onions, red peppers and one shrimp, steak was just ok. Our meal was $170 which wasn't justified by the food. Unfortunately this restaurant is not our recommendation, we would give it 2.5 stars.

My boyfriend and I had dinner at the restaurant yesterday to celebrate his birthday. We were seated right away and our waiter was helpful but not intrusive. The bread was warm and tasty; we had two servings. We both had The New York strip steak medium well and it was cooked to perfection. For an appetizer we had the fried calamari and I had a glass of an excellent Riesling wine. For my boyfriend's birthday the restaurant served us two free slices of cake; cheesecake and a chocolate mousse cake with a candle. :). They were both delicious. This was our first time at Empire Steakhouse and it won't be the last. My only complaint was that I thought, the fried calamari portion was a little small for the price, but it was delicious. And we were charged for a second cup of coffee; $5.50. But it was very good.
