Finally stopped by after driving by so many times and seeing the sign and I am glad I did. Evidently, they are closing their doors soon to focus on a book-mobile type situation, which would be way cool. Anyways, the person working was friendly and very helpful. I look forward to seeing their book-mobile and supporting them in the future.

Pandemic update:Still 5 stars and they are making it super easy to order and get your books, puzzles and games. If they have whatever you need instock, then you can get contactless delivery to your car! If they don't there is an independent bookstore link and they get a good percentage of the sale proceeds. They have a great selection of new and used books, many local. And they have great gift selections too.

As an English teacher, I spend way more time in bookstores than other stores because the nerd in me is just enraptured by them. I happened upon Tubby and Coos completely by accident as I had set out to visit one of the neighboring shops and they caught my attention by their PSA sign out front.I walked in the store, and the Sci Fi nerd in me just jumped out as the first thing I saw was Doctor Who. There are a great variety of other books as well, many that appeal to the YA audience as well as the alleged adults of the crowd. I actually ended up picking up a book on the history of the Carnival Krewes of New Orleans, so there really is a bit of something for everyone. The store is small, but there are two stories of goodies contained therein so make sure you take your time to enjoy it all.

They held a signed copy of a book for me. That tells you everything you need to know right there. They are all about community and they genuinely care.

Loved to stop in and browse pre-covid. They have some pretty cool local books and zines and a great selection of board games.Really grateful for the owner taking time to help Ellie pick a fun 2 player game as a gift for me. Patchwork ended up being the perfect game for us!

I was on the hunt for some gifts for a Harry Potter loving friend of mine when I was told that this place was worth checking out.Nestled in a converted house on N. Carrollton Avenue, this cute book shop seems to have a little something for everyone. They have a nice selection of really cute magnets and toys all relating to book characters. I loved the Jane Austen action figures and temporary tattoos- that is such a cute way to get kids interested in reading! As promised, they had a nice selection of Harry Potter toys and other fun little things. I ended up getting a massive book about the Harry Potter houses as well as a couple of little toys that my friend is sure to like.Things that I really liked about this shop: the small, but effective "local books" section that had a nice selection of local interest books, the really cool floating book shelf (how did they do that?), a whole upstairs section of children's books and a reading area for kids.Basically, this little shop is everything you want a book shop to be and I will return.

4/5 love on indy bookstoresand they are good community members. it seems hard these days to keep a bookstore-only model going, but these good folks both have great books, a nice truly nerdy selection and some cool/fun items. i've been around when they've done some board game stuff, author events, cool family things. i think they really do a good job of cultivating a fun book community. and next door to a coffeeshop - win!for the most recent indy bookstore day, they were able to get copies of a rare edition of books, so that's a cool accomplishment. all in all, i think this is a fun team who do more than their tiny space may initially suggest. peep that little harry-under-the-stairs situation, fun!

Tubby & Coo's is the reincarnation of Lil' Professor in my opinion but 10x better (like a Phoenix rising from the ashes #HarryPotterReference #XMen #whoiswithme? If you grew up in New Orleans, you may have visited Lil' Professor on Carrollton in your youth. I would escape into my books, pleading with my grandmother to buy me one more or let me stay another 10 more minutes.Twenty years later, Tubby & Coo's comes along and brings me back. I may have to steal someone's child to make an excuse to go hang out upstairs in their reading area with these bright, beautiful murals that any child or adult could admire. And that's not all folks...Candice, the owner (who has literally plucked my dream and turned it into a reality) has a lil' Harry Potter room under the stairs, as well as other touches that make this bookstore so incredibly welcoming. Adults, there are books for you too. I love that Candice stocks locally-written and signed books by local authors and will even occasionally host them in the store for signings. I love a great bookstore...this one just adds that extra flair that makes me squeal like my former 7 year-old self.

I love love ...did I mention I love this place!!!Let me just start with he owner.... She is a Harry Potter lover like me, so I already value her opinion over most muggles. She is so friendly and helpful, gave me great book recommendation, which worked great for me and she just was a pleasure to talk to!!!This store is for the nerds who know what they want, actually for those who don't as well, because the staff takes the extra mile to tell you about books and walk through with you to find something that will make you excited to read. The store is just so so cute! There is a whole Harry Potter section, which just does something to my heart every time I step foot inside. This is definitely the bookstore to check out, especially for those interested in Young Adult literature in my opinion.Parking. Parking may be a little tricky, sharing small bit of area with a few areas, you will find parking but maybe one block away. You can always get you some coffee next door at The Bean Gallery when you finish, which is a win in my book.

I like to shop at black owned community owned bookstores but this experience was a complete waste of time. I went online before going to see if they had a book I was looking for and it said they had it online, I drove over there, it was super hard to find the place, partly due to them closing up half a hour early. I called several times before they answered the phone to tell me they were closing early, then they explained that the link to the online search on their website applies to books ordered through a 3rd party seller that are shipped to buyers home address, so in other words they didn't have the book. If you are in the neighborhood and have time to kill and don't actually need a book then this might be a nice place to stop by casually.
