The Jambalaya Shoppe

I am not an expert when it comes to Laplace or St. John Parish. But I did work out here a bunch and everyone knows that when you work somewhere, you better find places to eat. Jambalaya Shoppe came highly recommended by a work buddy so I met him there one day. After that, it became my go-to lunch spot.Like its name indicates, this place sells a bunch of jambalaya. I rarely eat jambalaya that isn't made by me so I was skeptical. But they also sell gumbo which every red blooded Louisianaian loves so that is what I ordered. The gumbo here is legitimately good. It is filled with large pieces of chicken. When I say large, I mean multiple whole thighs. Get it with a fork and knife. Seriously. This is not your normal restaurant gumbo. It is thick, rich, and has a well developed roux. In addition to the massive amounts of chicken, it also includes a massive amount of sausage. Luckily for me, it came pre sliced and only the chicken needed to be cut up before eating.The best thing about the gumbo is that it is super reasonable. Don't quote me on prices because my brain doesn't work so good, but I think it was like $9 with tax for gumbo and a water. This is a massive meal for $9!If you want good gumbo, and are in LaPlace, get yourself to Jambalaya Shoppe.

I was driving back from a cruise and just wanted some Cajun food. I tried two other places but they were closed. That led me here to delicious Jambalaya and red beans. The fried fish is on point and the sausage and chicken gumbo is delicious. I only gave 4 stars since the menu wasn't accurate and I wish they would have used a sharpie to mark out what they don't sell anymore.

Awesome Jambalaya, not salty like many other places. If the jambalaya is this good I definitely want to try the other menu items. A supplier brought this as a take out, but it was great. I could have eaten the whole bucket, but strongly resisted the 3rd serving. I will visit the store as soon as I can, but it seems to be a great place for Jambalaya. Other side menu items were good too, salad was fresh and beans were great. A must try for sure!

I love this place and eat here often. I have a somewhat strange order- I like the chicken and sausage gumbo with no chicken and no sausage. It's basically rice and gravy and it's THE BEST comfort food. Anyway, they are always very nice and accommodating. I also recommend the mini crawfish pies and the chicken stew. (Although chicken stew is only available on Thursday's!)

Well... this place knocked it out of the park for me. I ordered thru DoorDash... after I placed my order the nice lady called to inform me that they were out of their daily special (I understand why!)so I asked her to surprise me as I'm a food guy and like trying new things. I told her I had never had jambalaya before and not from around the Laplace area. She mentioned a few things and said to just hook me up with something... and Wow! She hooked me up! I guess it was chicken pork jambalaya with potato salad a boudin link(which I have never had) and a banana pudding and a chocolatey cup... I couldn't eat it all but I tried. It was so so good. I love jambalaya now. Spending a couple weeks in the area so I'll be ordering here again. I urge you to get you something from this place. The gal on the phone was really nice and she delivered on some GOOD EATS!

Walked in at 5pm and a girl rude as hell, said hey we are closed! At 5pm on a Monday when their sign says open and the door was unlocked lights on and during business hours. Unreal

Wow, portion sizes were huge with reasonable prices. Everything was good--my only complaint is the chicken pieces in the jambalaya were too big. I would have preferred it in more bite-size pieces. And the most impressive thing that stood out was the wonderful customer service. I was there on a Sunday afternoon and the guy behind the counter was super-friendly, polite, and helpful--now THAT's what I call Southern hospitality.
