Sammy's Food Service & Deli

I've been patronizing Sammy's since before Katrina, and I've got to say, this is one of the last places in the city where you can get large portions (enough for two meals), homemade flavor, hot and fresh, reasonably-priced meals. No matter what you order, side it with the beets. They're awesome. I don't even make mirliton at home anymore...I just order it by the quart from Sammy's and transfer it to a baking dish and heat it up in the oven or air fryer. The BEST!Order online, and by the time you arrive, it's ready to go! The counter folks are so friendly and helpful. They never rush you, and are always pleasant.

This is a classic New Orleans PoBoy spot. Don't go for the ambiance or service. It's a walk up counter. But the PoBoy's are NEXT LEVEL! I had the Shrimp PoBoy and it was fantastic. The shrimp was fresh, crisp and large. The bread was so fresh and light! Totally satisfied my need for a New Orleans PoBoy fix!

Food is always good!! If you are in the mode for some home cooking then look no further. The poboys are overstuffed and absolutely delicious. Inside is decently sized and has enough tables and chairs to accommodate your dine in needs. If you're ever hungry and in the area do yourself a favor and check this place out!!

Visited yesterday expecting the usual delicious food I've experienced multiple times before.I've patronized this establishment since before Katrina.Unfortunately,this experience wasn't satisfactory.I ordered the stuffed catfish plate...The catfish was covered in paprika,tasteless,rubbery and severely overcooked.The seafood stuffing was black and tasteless.jambalaya was sour,definitely spoiled.My lunch mate ordered the same plate as I and mentioned the sour taste as well.The entire meal went to trash( except the sweet potato mash),it was not edible.Spent $41 + tip and left hungry and in disbelief of how the quality of the food had drastically changed.The kitchen staff has changed as well.Not one POC in sight.I mention this because the food was delicious when the old staff was in the kitchen.The cashier was friendly.Clean eating area fully stocked with utensils and condiments.I do not plan on visiting again.Still upset about spending money on a meal that I didn't enjoy.

I was starving & around the area. My mom raved about this place from years ago so we stopped in! This was my first time. They get busy quickly. There was seating but not a lot. It seems to be more grab & go. I ordered the seafood stuffed shrimp plate. It was delicious! You get a good bit of food for the price! I'd stop back in again.

I've had a shrimp poboy and a hot sausage poboy from this spot. The shrimp sandwich was excellent but the hot sausage was not Patton's, which is a mortal sin in New Orleans. That's the only reason why I didn't rate five stars.

Been patronizing Sammy's for years and never had any major issues. However, today my experience was low. I ordered a Mushroom Burger and a club sandwich from my boss. They packed her in a nice white Styrofoam container, and they put my burger in a clear plastic container. Upon returning to the office I open my container in my bottom bun. was completely soggy. So I called to let them know that I was unable to eat my burger because of the bun. I was greeted with "Well you ordered your burger medium so that makes it juicy". Excuse me? No, my burger was placed in a small container while hot and it sweated. After that, I was an offer to come back and pick up a bun. I went back and I brought the burger in with me to show them. What happens when you do that. I was angry with. We've been doing this for 31 years and you're the first person that this has happened to. Again, excuse me? I was not short/curt with anyone, I did not curse - I was very courteous, and just trying to get them to understand my complaint. Every response was very dismissive. Safe to say, to never order a burger to go from there. And even with my complaint and experience from today, I'm still choosing to give this restaurant four stars because the food is seemingly good. People have to take accountability for mistakes and just apologize! Pics are attached.

Unfortunately, I wasted $20 here today on what was like cafeteria slop. I told the person at the counter I was dining in but it was packaged to go (and without a bag to hold it). Service and food need major improvements. Avoid.

The seafood soup is banging!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Cool spot. Good service. I'm on my way there right now. See you there!!!!!!

Last time I visited Sammy I found hair in my food. Sammy's food has consistently diminish in quality over several visit. Maybe the Health Dept should do an inspection.
