Saigon Slim's food truck brethren should take note of what SS is doing. Low carb and salad offerings are not common amongst the area food truck scene and SS hits it out of the park. I had the Boo Coo salad (no vermicelli noodles) with lemongrass chicken. Huge, fresh, and filling. I look forward to trying the Saigon Caesar with house made dressing and wonton croutons.

Damn, this place was good. Yelp reviewers were showing love for this place, and I was starving after cramming for an Accounting final last night. I checked out the NOLA Food Truck app (if you don't have this app already, get it!) and this place popped as being parked at Kingpin, which I honestly never knew existed even though I'm in this area all the time. Damn, NOLA's got a lot of hidden bars. Anyways, $11 for a bahn mi seemed a little ridiculous, but I got one of their signatures: the Pig Shrimpin, which has pulled pork and shrimp along with all the standard bahn mi stuff. Y'all, this was amazing and hit the spot after a long day of studying. The pork had the most perfect flavor, it wasn't too sweet and had a kick but not too much of one. The shrimp were nicely sized and plentiful. Whatever sauce they used was awesome as well, I'm not a fan of overly saucy bahn mi's where the bread gets soggy and they nailed it here. I also got a side of kimchi; I was gonna get it on the sandwich but the girl who took my order advised me to get it on the side. It doesn't look like much in the picture but it was awesome and packed some serious heat. Nothing is worse than weak kimchi and they got it spot on. They're often parked near Ms. Maes as well which definitely helps elevate the awesomeness. Definitely a standout in the NOLA food truck scene.

The first time I had Saigon Slim's was when they catered for my friend's wedding. IT WAS AMAZING. The portions were smaller and they were pushing out a lot of really great options over a short period of time. I was impressed and shoveled as much food in my mouth as quickly as possible. I got a chance to try Saigon Slim's again when they were at Tchoup Yard the other day. I was excited to try their Pig Shrimpin' po boy ($11). It was delicious! Pork marinated in peanut-based sauce with grilled shrimp and mint. The flavors were really good and not too salty. The only thing that would've put it over the top is if the bread wasn't over toasted. They use Dong Phuong bread, but I felt it wasn't represented as well as it could've been. Still, I guzzled up the whole sandwich in a matter of minutes.

This seems to be the new food truck on the block and ooh baby is it a good one!Ok, so I'm going to admit that I was one of people saying "$7 for a banh mi? Seriously?" But after tasting it's deliciousness, I was put it my place. This banh mi was PACKED with pork and provided a culinary experience that was out of this world. It had so much flavor that I enjoyed every bite and I was excited to share the experience with my insta-foodies.While I'm being totally honest, I'm going to admit that the Cajun Spring Rolls were less than spectacular on my end. I think that they could use a bit more spice. Hey, add a little kick to those rolls and I will be all over them!Saigon Slim's is going to go far and I am so excited that I was able to experience them tonight. I can't wait to try the rest of their faire!

This place screams hipster. It's a ducked off location, next to cool bar ( a brewery in fact ), the prices are cheap and the menu is unique. Honestly I was drawn here by fellow yelpers so thanks y'all! It wasn't as packed the first few times but as we know that doesn't last. Still in all the wait is never excessive. One time I got a rude waitress/ server whatever you call him! But I won't hold it against them.I love that they always have floating item like a spin on the winds or a fun egg roll. My go to is the miso honey chicken after that the pig shrimpin fasho cus im a Hov fan. All in all a great place to go for a classic Nola night

Standard Food truck in my opinion. I went here on a cold night when it was next to a bar with mostly outside seating. Food: The food is good. I got the shrimp and chicken banh mi with an order of bacon kimchi fries. They were both good, although the fries were a bit heavy. I loved it, but I thought paying more than 20$ for that was just too much. Service: The service lady was nice and the guy cooking....was cooking. I thought that the food took surprisingly long for the amount of people in front of me when I ordered (1). I was a bit annoyed when the people behind me got their food before me. I was surprised by the price. I thought it was overpriced for what I was getting.

This is most definitely a food truck worth coming back to again and again. Don't get me wrong, taceaux loceaux is amazing and always delicious - but this place is bringing it as well. Considering they've been in business for all of a month at this time, it's pretty awesome how good they are! The bahn mi's are the main attraction and are perhaps more approachable than the standard options at most Vietnamese shops out east on on the West Bank. This means less head cheese/pate, more grilled pork/chicken/beef. The meat has great flavor, buns are soft and still hold structure, and the dressings are great. I haven't tried the "Elvis" one get but all the other options are awesome. The fried spring rolls are maybe the low point of the menu- I think it's the combination of seafood in them. The default spring rolls (non fried) look great though. Worth hunting down next weekend.

Given New Orleans' growing food truck scene over the past five years and the longstanding love for Vietnamese food in this town, Saigon Slim's seems like a welcome addition to the weekday offerings on Tulane Avenue. Unfortunately, they pale in comparison to stellar Vietnamese restaurants throughout the city, including some within blocks of this location. I have to admit that I spurned the Banh Mi (which seems to be their signature dish) for the Boo-Coo Salad, a Bun-like dish including lettuce, jicama, carrots, cilantro, rice noodles, and lemongrass chicken. I'll start with what worked: the salad portion of the dish was just fine. Pickled jicama gives the dish a desperately-needed flavor boost, and the veggies are, well, veggies. Things came off the rails a bit with the chicken, however. Dry and under-seasoned, it bore all the hallmarks of pre-cooking (possibly in an oven, perhaps on a previous day) which really doesn't work here. The noodles were under-cooked, and did not play well with the other ingredients. The whole thing felt like a paint-by-numbers attempt at Bun, and at $10 (not including tip), that makes for a pretty unsatisfying experience. My advice: roll the dice with the Banh Mi, or check out Pho Tau Bay (Tulane Ave.) or Le's Baguette (Uptown on Dryades and Cadiz). For a different take on Vietnamese, try the Grilled Pork and Sriracha Mayo Wrap at Mr. Bubbles' Cafe on Canal.
