I love, love, love this place. It is a diamond in the rough, but then aren't all the best places?? Their Homemade Onion rings are amazing, and I had their hamburger with cheese, mushrooms and fried onions today it was amazing. My son always gets their roast beef po'boy. When they can find green tomatoes you can't ask for better Fried Green tomatoes . Very New Orleans funky very very good.

My co-worker and I decided to take a nice stroll to this lovely Po-Boy place on a quest for a good shrimp Po-Boys around work. The French bread is great; not too chewy or hard and they are generous with their shrimp. I just wish the shrimp had a little more flavor to them, since they say their seafood is fresh from next door. All in all the food for the price it was great. The service was friendly. I am excited to come back and try their oyster or crabmeat Po-Boys.

We had been passing by this place what we now know is a hidden gem. Please dont let the outer/inner appearance discourage you from trying this place. We walked in and was immediately greeted by the local patrons so we felt very comfortable. We had ordered the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes, Joyce hamburger on po boy bread with a side of onion rings and everything was very delicious and inexpensive which was a plus. On the way out we stopped at their fresh meat/fish market they have and grabbed some boiled shrimp that were also delicious. Try this place you will not be disappointed unless you care about an ambiance.

The building is awful some of the walls are painted concrete block and the ceiling tiles are uneven. But, the roast beef poboy was delicious and dripped down my forearm. Lightly toasted seeded roll.

How did I not know about this place before??Accidentally got here right at close but they were the nicest and didn't even mention their closing time! They have a pretty standard New Orleans menu so asked what they recommend. She said you can't go wrong with anything there, but their seafood is all fresh from their next door fish market. With that ringing endorsement, I ended up getting one of their daily specials which was a fish po boy with fries for $4.99. Since it was free lemonade day, I decided to walk around as I was waiting for their food. Less than 10 minutes later, I walked back in to a perfectly cooked po boy that was stuffed to the gills, along with freshly cooked fries. It was an amazing quantity of food for lunch- esp for the price. Will definitely be back soon!

We're here in New Orleans at Ochsner Hospital looking after my mother who just underwent open heart surgery and we have been trying a lot of places for lunch while we're here. Today we decided to stop at this little place we have passed by a half dozen times or so. Outside looking in it doesn't look like much but. In our experiences we've come to find that these are the places with the best food and Poppa's Poor-Boys is another testament to that rule. Very reasonably priced, prompt courteous service. And the food is ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! I ordered the Joyce special (my mother's name is Joyce so I had too) french bread hamburger and my wife ordered chicken fried steak and mash and gravy. My burger was fresh not frozen handmade patty seasoned perfect and dressed to a tee.. my wife loved the flavor of her steak and gravy which is also homemade and so flavorful. Will definitely come back everytime were in town.

Decent Po Boy if they have all of the ingredients there. Went during tropical storm Barry. Decent area and had to deal with no AC but what can you do during a storm. I got the roast beef po boy. It was serviceable but nothing special to make me want to keep going back there.

Love this place! Their prices are great for my lunch budget. And the portions are extremely generous. I always have a great lunch when I order here. Everyone is really nice and they get to know you which makes it a more personable experience! Their red beans are the best in town!

Eat here at least once a week. The BEST Po-boys in and around the New Orleans area. The food is cooked to order, with fast and friendly service. Pricing is extremely reasonable, and well worth the wait. Nice variety of food, and as good as homemade cooking, without the mess. Only drawback, is that they close to early, so you better hurry if you want to order. I don't give a 5-star rating too often, but this place definitely earned it !!!
