UPDATE: I went back with the extended family for another delicious brisket sammy and got some good pics of the different plates our party ordered. We even got some food 'to-go' for a sick teenager. ***!!Pit-N-Peel's comfort food practically healed him!!*** I also found a pic from our office crawfish party at Pit-N-Peel last Spring. (The whole office went and we ate pounds and pounds of those delightful spicy and flavorful crawdads.) ENJOY THE PICS!

Pit-N-Peel is an amazing local gem! They combine two things that most everyone likes, seafood and BBQ. Both of these are great here, and what's more they have a catering business as well. They are conveniently located on Government Street near the Garden District. There's parking out front and in the side.Their seafood options include boiled crawfish is season, and these are very good indeed. I find their fried catfish excellent as is their shrimp. In a recent visit, my friend had them make her a blackened shrimp and blackened alligator plate as her combo and I was jealous! I recently tried their BBQ as I usually get seafood and was very pleasantly surprised. The ribs were really outstanding. While the main courses are always the star of the show, their sides need to be discussed as well. My favorite is probably the cabbage which is sautéd till crisp tender. The beans and rice could be a main course, but are excellent as sides. Cornbread tops off the meal.

My family and I have been coming here for a couple of years now but today we decided not to go anymore. The owner was very unfriendly today for some reason but very nice to other customers...not sure why. Just not a very welcoming ambiance and the food wasn't as good as it has been in the past. We were also charged $1 per to go container.

I loved the staff here and loved the crawfish even more: the space looks like a sit down restaurant from the outside but when you walk inside, it's clearly a carry out type of spot. I loved the cashier, she was friendly and helpful. The crawfish were a nice size and flavorful. Will definitely be back!

Passing through Baton Rouge and in need of some lunch quickly found a better than average Yelp review in the area. The restaurant had just opened and it was empty. The waitress/cook/everything else lady was happy to get a drink order and deliver a couple menus. The inside of the restaurant is interesting, a couple different rooms with chairs and tables and what looks like a space set up for playing music. We ordered a brisket plate and an alligator po boy. Alligator was batter dipped and had a nice flavor.Brisket had a smoke ring and was nice and tender.Great spot and reasonably priced if you're in the area or passing through.

Wow. Just overall a great experience. Our friends and I are driving the Blues Highway and had a stop in Baton Rouge for the night. I had found this restaurant and the menu looked incredible. Von, the owner, and Miss Kat were so welcoming and gracious that we ended up staying well after we had finished eating to talk. Our group ordered po boys (fried alligator, blackened alligator, catfish and fried shrimp) and swapped out the fries for green beans, dirty rice and a to go order of Mac and cheese. The bread on the po boys was so soft and a perfect vehicle for the ingredients. The favorite was the catfish. Then the dirty rice. Oh my goodness I have never had dirty rice like this. Small pieces of beef brisket (with just the right amount of fat on it) sautéed with bell peppers, rice and seasoning. I've never had dirty rice like this before and I will most definitely be attempting this at home. The green beans were also sautéed with bell peppers and had a really nice flavor. Our friend had the Mac and cheese later in the night and said it was very good too. Dessert was a peach cobbler that my husband and I ate in about a minute. Mmmm is all I can say to sum up the food.

Not only was the food phenomenal, but this was one of the most memorable experiences we have ever had!! Vaughn, the owner of the restaurant opened up the kitchen just for us! We were late coming in, and we were looking for crawfish, but unfortunately they were out of season. However, we ordered up some gator, and the platter was amazing! The red beans and rice, mac & cheese and the Hawaiian Punch was the best I've ever had in my life!! We will absolutely stop here any time we come through Baton Rouge and we highly recommend to anybody!

I was in town on a business trip to visit some clients. Even though it was getting late, I ventured out beyond the airport for some local food. I stumbled upon Pit-N-Peel and met a few lads sitting outside. One person, whom I now know as the owner Elvondae, told me, "I'm all out. They ate everything!" I was a little bummed but could hardly be upset. After all, it was Easter weekend and the crawfish boils are quite the thing. After I asked if he had any recommendations for other local places, he said, "Tell you what, come on in, and I'll make you something". That night, I got to enjoy a wonderful meal of catfish, dirty rice, green beans and cornbread, though Elvondae didn't want to offer me more out of concern for my carb load :). I could have eaten 5 pieces no problem; carb load be damned. The food was delicious, but just as enjoyable was the opportunity to spend some time with him to talk about life, basketball, and the community as a whole. If I weren't worked after a long flight in, I could have stayed a long time. Hell, I would have helped with the dishes, he was so welcoming. Thanks again Elvondae. If you are in town, take a trip over to Pit-N-Peel. Great folks making great home cooking.
