Historic corner market
History
My favorite Deli potato salad; Matassa's is creamy, eggy, well seasoned & mustard based: a staple at our Saints cookouts & BBQs!
Cobb Salad.. Only $12 a lb. How do they do it so cheap? :-(

First thing I saw was this strategically placed hair. It is like she lied the hair down on my sandwich intentionally.
I paid $8.95 plus tax for this. You should be ashamed of yourselves for serving this.

The French Quarter is blessed with several excellent bodegas. Matassa's is not only one of the most historic, but one of the best. Great deli counter. Super clean. Friendly service. Not a supermarket capable of fulfilling all of your weekly grocery needs, but you will find a decent selection of wine, beverages and staples, given the chance.

Nice little store in the Quarter. Has a hot food/deli/pizza counter. Some basic groceries...all you need in a corner store!I ordered a Gavillacio sandwich on chiabatta bread. Never heard of it before, but it sounded good.Genoa salami, smoked bufala mozzarella, arugula, artichokes, sweet roasted peppers. I ended up riding my bike 9 miles home before eating it, so it was a little wet on the bottom from the arugula, artichoke, and peppers, but no big deal. I put it on a plate upside down in the fridge for 10 mins and all was good. It has an Interesting flavor, super tasty mozzerella and salami, the roasted peppers add a savory component, the artichoke made it a little salty/tart, a bit of crunch from the chiabatta and arugula. Totally satisfied. I'm gonna be back and try other food here!RECOMMENDED

The kitchen in the back is such a gem. The friendly chef cooks with his heart and soul. It was 10:30am, my family and I were still full from our late breakfast of beignets, but we were pulled into the back of the store because of the yummy smells. Like, we had only gone in to purchase some bottled water but the smells drew us to the deli and wow. We had the seafood bisque and it is by far one of the best meals we had on our trip. We weren't even hungry but we couldn't resist and my 7 yr old son and I scarfed it down. My son, who normally doesn't like or eat any creamy/cheesy pasta, devoured it. What a beautiful serendipity and bravo to the chef!

Small grocery store located in the heart of the French Quarter. Super cute and quaint. Friendly staff. Tucked away in the back is a little kitchen making sandwiches, pizzas and the like. There's even a small amount of counter space with stools for you to enjoy your meal if you don't want to take away. Really loved this pizza. Came out quick. Was delicious and visually appeasing.

Oh, Matassa's... how I miss your pies. Pick one up; you'll thank me later. They're made by a local company called Anna's and can be found near the register. Sweet potato was my favorite, but peach was damn good, too. The crust is sweet and melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the filling is like candy. As for the rest of the market, I'd say they need to order more produce. The selection is skimpy and overpriced.

The hot counter in the back of this deli is one of the best food spots that you will never discover. The chef offers daily options that represent the best of the food in NOLA. He'll feed you samples till you're full. Keep walking if you can't enjoy take away.

Great neighborhood grocery store but the real attraction is the small deli in the back. Chef Orlando cooks up all kinds of delicious dishes. Jambalaya, catfish, collard greens, roast etc. You'll like this place.

A convenient place to get last minute food, items, wine and liquor. Friendly service and packed with plenty of items. Avoid the New Orleans brand ice cream it's over priced and contains the same basic ingredients as the nation brands. It's actually artificial ice cream.Various gums in the ingredients may cause indigestion. Other than that stop by and shop when the need arises.

Great market! I go here often because the prices are comparable, if not better to Rouses and some things that I always shop for. Huge liquor selection and all the cold drinks you can think of. Sure, you won't find EVERYTHING that a big box store has, but that's okay!Friendly staff, and less chaotic that the Rosie's in the FQ!I'd you live in the French Quarter, make this one of your stops!

This market has grown substantially since its reopening, and I am really really happy with it. They have the best liquor & wine selection of any grocery store in this part of town. The products they keep are consistently available.Rouse's is often considered the best supermarket option in the French Quarter, but as someone who shops at both, I can tell you that Matassa's has just as much product as Rouse's on Royal Street. The selection is the best for a grocery store in the French Quarter, & it's in an intimate area, close to everything
