We love this place. It's not fancy. You have to have cash and they close at 3:30 in the afternoon and are only open 4 days a week. Be prepared. Once you get past all that the food is good and just hits the spot for us.

This place got highly recommended off the New Orleans Facebook group I belong to. Kind of a hole in the wall place. Small inside. It looks like a deli with glass display of all the goods. The roast beef Po-boy was highly recommended so that's what we got. It's big enough to split and they brought it out in two separate dishes so we cold pour over ours separately. It was a little messy and warm, which was a good on a cold December day. We got it dressed so there was lettuce and tomato on it. It reminds me of a roast beef sandwich. I wish I had a bigger stomach and could try more of there delicious offerings. I guess this gives me an excuse to return to New Orleans. They also have bathrooms and additional seating in back.

Cash Only. DO NOT get the surf & turf po-boy, I was extremely disappointed by it, I absolutely hate soggy bread and the beef they put on the po-boy makes the bread wet n soggy so it falls apart very easily. This review has high stars though because I was able to taste my grandmother and my mothers food, they had a fried catfish po-boy and a shrimp po-boy. The catfish was really good but I personally liked the shrimp the most.

The line out the door proved to be worth it. Sharing one po-boy and a side of hush puppies was enough for me and my companion. There was plenty more seating in the back of the restaurant. We felt the prices were fair and the quality of food was good. Loved the old-school counter vibe, as well as the many options.

In my mind--the best po-boys in the Quarter and the CBD. Not fancy, but it's iconic. I always get it dressed, too. As everyone says, bring cash.

mmmhm 10/10 for flavor, service and overall atmosphere. I was lucky when I went with it being the prettiest day of the year in New Orleans. With the pleasant weather they were able to open the doors and let the breeze in. The tvs were playing college football games playing and everyone enjoying what they came there for it was a vibe. Seating is super limited with a little space to wait on an order to go but the time went pretty fast. Just help the line out by knowing what you want before it's your turn - and bring CASH. Try something new and you won't be disappointed here at Johnnys

As a tourist with this being my first time ever having a po boy this food was delicious! I got a shrimp po boy and it was amazing. I can tell it was fresh and the workers were nice given the fact that it was VERY busy and a steady line of people literally you finish eating and someone is waiting to take your spot. I'll definitely have to come back on my next trip to New Orleans

Before coming to the French Quarter, I tried my best to find highly recommended restaurants and Johnny's was specifically recommended amongst the top Po Boys in the area. After reading the reviews, I was very excited to come here for my first authentic New Orleans Po Boy and I really, really wanted to experience an overwhelming "WOW, THAT WAS AMAZING" feeling. I am so sad to say, this was not the experience that occurred.Upon walking in, we were met with a packed restaurant and a long line. All signs pointing to "we made the right choice!" I even asked another patron who was enjoying their meal how their food was and they responded very excitedly that it was great! We did not realize that it was a Cash Only establishment, but thankfully they do have an ATM inside the restaurant, so that crisis was averted. We had arrived a bit later into the afternoon within a half hour of closing, and I now would highly recommend not doing this! We attempted ordering multiple items that were no longer available and finally landed on their Special of the Day which was the Voodoo Shrimp Po Boy ($19.95). We also decided to grab a side of the Cajun Gumbo to try with the po boy as well. The order was ready pretty quickly and we walked it back to our hotel to enjoy in the courtyard since the restaurant was packed full.I hadn't realized that The Voodoo Shrimp Po Boy was essentially just a Buffalo Shrimp Po Boy, which I love buffalo sauce, but MY GOODNESS. It was VERY acidic and overpowering. It didn't taste as though the flavor complimented the ingredients and I felt like I didn't get to enjoy the authentic Shrimp Po Boy that I was hoping for. As for the Cajun Gumbo, the texture was really strange. I know that Gumbo is pretty standardly made with a roux in order to thicken the consistency, but the consistency was strange. It also tasted as though wayyyy too much butter was added into it and it coated the tongue in an unpleasant manner.I'm usually all in favor of trying a divey, local spot because you never know what amazing food you might be able to find! I was hoping for that experience here and unfortunately, did not get that.

The shrimp was good. The fried tomatoes were not bad. The jambalaya was not amazing. They had seating. Only took cash, which was rough for their pricy menu.
