We stopped by this little cafe for breakfast on our way from New Orleans to Houston. It's a little off the beaten track...maybe 5 minutes off the interstate. But I'm glad we made a little detour. I had their 2 egg platter with bacon which was 3 pieces of very good thick cut bacon. I chose the hash browns instead of grits. The hash browns were the pre-formed square like you get at McDonald's. They were fine and cooked well, but nothing to write home about. I picked a biscuit instead of toast. It was a big flaky biscuit and was great. I ordered a side of white gravy to make biscuits and gravy and it was fantastic--good peppery flavor--and only $.70. Add a $.99 cup of coffee and I had a big breakfast for about $8. My wife had the pancakes-- 2 plate sized pancakes. They tasted good but were maybe a little dense. She added a scrambled egg with cheese. The cheese was sprinkled on top instead of mixed in as it cooked. Overall, this was one of the best diner-type breakfasts I've had is a while and the price was unbelievable. Breakfast for 2 was about $15. We will stop on our way through wherever we have a chance.

I grew-up one block over, and have watched this newer café in the old digs.Have had lunch here some 4 r 5 times lately; every one was very good. typical Cajun Country lunch fare; some seafood, various meats-with-gravies, etc. All good. Never bad !Boiled seafoods in evenings, look for the signs.Always excellent values. Typical spicy "peppered" foods.Owned by a local fireman.Lotsa off street parking, some shaded spaces.Great little place. Go early; sometimes runs out of the lunch specials.Rick

Firehouse Cafe provided breakfast at a killer price. For a touch over $6.50 I got two eggs, a sausage patty, biscuit, hash brown patty, and a cup of coffee. The next time I pass this way, you can bet Firehouse Cafe will be on my radar. The cup of coffee was passable to quite good. Strong enough to do the job. The eggs came over hard, as ordered. The biscuit tasted good & was big enough to contribute to the meal's substantiality. Special kudos to the rectangular cake of hash browns. They were wonderfully crisp on the outside, while being soft & tender on the inside. The interior of the cafe is fun. It's loaded with firefighting motif artifacts, since the founder of this eatery was a firefighter prior to opening the cafe. Looking at all this stuff insured no boredom while waiting for my breakfast, although the meal showed up quite quickly, so not much looking beforehand either.I gotta give a shout-out to the very cordial young lady who was waitress & cashier. Her friendly & forthcoming explanation of Crowley's geographical peculiarities vis-a-vis flooding was really educational.

Food is great and wait time is kept to a minimum. Their BBQ is delicious and so is the rice dressing. I don't think we've ever had a bad meal there.

This little spot is worth the drive off the highway! You pass through the small downtown, and Firehouse Cafe is just up on the left. We ordered burgers and tots, a shrimp po-boy and sausage and chicken gumbo. Everything was delicious! My daughter's gumbo bowl came with potato salad (delicious!), a generous portion of rice, a homemade roll and a piece of what she thought was buttered cornbread that turned out to be an amazing, homemade iced piece of cake for dessert! Everything was made fresh and the staff was very friendly. The restaurant pays tribute to first responders, which was an added bonus to our lunch stop. We all recommend that you stop by Firehouse Cafe if you find yourself in the area!
