OBSCURE / HIDDEN GEM!The atmosphere is no frills offering good food.Ms. Evelyn (I hope I got her name right) brings her skills and talent to work with her EVERYDAY this place is open for business. The food never disappoints. From the delicious fried chicken, fried catfish, red beans & rice, white beans (all beans served with whole sausage links) potato salad, macaroni cheese, peas, & much more! They have dessert and each meal comes with a corn muffin and tea. ONLY open weekdays from 11am to 2 pm. Very popular with the locals. That being said you will run into a crowd, DAILY. Well worth it!There are small areas indoors for eating but most get their food to go. They post Daily lunch menus on FACEBOOK. Check it out for accuracy. Will post pics of the full plates of food when another order is placed.

Only a few minutes from my home I recently visited and bought meals for an aging friend (which is quite particular) and she's enjoyed them. I am so impressed that I can't wait to try them for myself this week. I'll get back to you as soon as I do.

This place gunna kill me, y'all. Absolutely annihilated my vegetarian, low cholesterol diet. I should have known what I was getting into when every meal comes with a free sweet tea. Its a wonderful Baton Rouge food experience: all the delicious southern soul and none of the pomp and pretentiousness of the local places downtown or in mid city. I totally forgot I was a teacher on spring break and instead ate like I was a construction worker coming off a job. Bury me with the rice and gravy. All Hail the Stockyard Cafe.

I travel all over the world with my job. Every now and then you run across a little gem of a place to have a good, southern home cooked meal. Here it is! Probably one of the topthree cafes in the county imho. All of their food is absolutely amazing. Everyone treats you like family, and you almost feel like you're at your grandma's house for Sunday dinner. All puns and jokes aside, this place is as good as you will find anywhere in the country. Oh, if the name puzzles you, don't let it. It's part of an actual stockyard.

So glad I found this spot. This is comfort food that hits the spot. I really enjoyed the food and service both were equally awesome. The Liver and onions over mashed potatoes with Lima Beans, cucumber salad, cornbread and sweet tea were delicious. The ladies behind the counter enjoy their jobs it would seem. The prices can't be beat either, all that for $12.00.

Some of the best plate lunches in town... especially when they have fried chicken! It's the 3rd best fried chicken I've ever had, behind only Gus's and Uncle Lou's in Memphis. Add some candied yams, rice & gravy, spaghetti & cheese, cornbread & cake with a sweet tea and you have a heckuva meal.

One of the lesser known places in Baton Rouge. I've heard whispers for years about the "best fried chicken in Baton Rouge". Sure, it's a hassle to get to, but it actually isn't. There's daily specials (see picture), everything is setup Piccadilly style. All around, it's the best plate lunch I've had in Baton Rouge. The scenery is even more impressive in that there are hundreds of cows traded in the hours before lunch.
