Yes, it was a fun outing and vendors were very nice and the food was great. The mushroom guy was nice and we bought a variety of the mushrooms that I came home and sautéed with onions added it to my chicken and spinach meal. We are going back for more. You have to go early he sells out quickly.

The Covington Farmer's Market is the place to go if you want farm fresh produce, meats, seafood, and craft food items.Everyone knows that the fresher your food is, the better it tastes. Not only do you get extremely fresh items, you're able to meet the farmer who raised the animals and grew the vegetables you're buying. In my opinion, this is the best farmers market within driving distance of New Orleans. Here are the reasons why:Proximity to farms - Many people may not know this, but the Northshore is home to many different types of farms. Because Covington is close to the farm, you will get the freshest possible items.Variety - Whether you eat meat, are a vegetarian, or even a pescetarian, there will be something for you at this market. I particularly like the farm fresh meats. On my last visit I spoke with a cattle farmer who was selling his wares. His offer of a processed half or full cow seemed highly desirable, but I had nowhere to store that much meat. I did buy some of his ground beef which was better than anything I have sampled before, including from fancy stores. There are also numerous vendors selling products they made locally. As Jennifer B. mentioned, the Italian cookie stand is a must visit. Besides amazing products, the guys who run the stand are very friendly and entertaining characters. If you have kids make sure you pick up one of their cookies in the shape of popular cartoon characters.Besides all the food, there are also several plant vendors each week. I don't know much about plants, but they had quite the variety.I am a big fan of this market, and think you will be too.

Went to Covington for the first annual Antiques Fest and checked out the farmers market area. Really, really beautiful downtown area. They have a permanent pavilion and a local old-timey jazz band played throughout the afternoon. The downtown area sits close to the Tammany-Trace trailhead, so there are bikes and bicyclists everywhere. The Covington Brewery sits in the downtown area as well, which is great for picking up a growler or 6 pack and enjoying the day. Walking around is really easy, not a lot of traffic. We made it down to the Bogue Falaya easily and was pleasantly surprised at the well-kept picnic area and beautiful homes.

The Farmer's Market is always nice. They also have a Wednesday market that is at the Tammany Trace trailhead in Covington and this review mostly pertains to that.I had the most delicious meatballs for lunch there, freshly made. The lady even made the mozzarella they were stuffed with herself. For $5, I got two of these huge meatballs stuffed with mozzarella and pine nuts, a ravioli, and a cannoli. Since I work near there, I often have lunch there on Wednesdays and have never been disappointed. There is also a booth from the little, local health food store that has delicious veggie wraps and other healthy items. There is a Latin American booth that has amazing savory pancake-type-things made fresh as well as different tamales and things. Another regular booth is the Thai booth. That has yummy spring rolls.Oh, yeah. You can also buy produce there...

I visited here from New Orleans for my birthday, and the farmer's market was probably the pinnacle of my trip. It had a lot of great energy, and prices are a lot better than you'll find in NOLA for pretty much everything I saw. I loaded up on prepared foods (pickles, jellies, coffee) and bought some mushrooms and patty pan squash. I think I had less than $30 going in, and I left with a bit of change in my pocket. They had live music, and the vendors were chatty and friendly. A lot of the people I talked to were happy to tell me about the ingredients and procedures they used to make their foods. A lot of the vendors said they were regulars; this is definitely worth a trip from the city.

I'm really not sure why this doesn't have any reviews. It was packed on Saturday when we went (first time). Lots of vendors, lots of shoppers, and live music too!Favorites? I definitely recommend the Italian Cookie stand, particularly for the wedding cookies. Also, the woman selling hummus, pesto, and various other delicious Mediterranean foods. Looking for fresh fruit, veggies, and meat? Tons to choose from - just get there early before they start to run out!If I lived in/around Covington, this would be a weekly stop for me. Alas, I'll have to keep it as a treat for whenever I find myself on the Northshore on a Saturday morning.

This is the best market on the northshore, supplying a wide variety of goods from long term vendors. Tons of produce, baked items and ready to eat prepared foods. A really great selection of plant material at rock bottom prices--stuff you can't find anywhere else. And they have a terrific line-up of musicians playing every Saturday, and free food samples to boot! My only 'beef' is that they're vegetarian, and I'd like to see the ready-to-eat menu expand.
