Great poor-boys,gumbo, and jambalaya. First time in New Orleans and had to make sure I had these New Orleans staples. Definitely try the jambalaya with the red beans as a side.

Fantastic food and excellent customer service. I'm so grateful that I found this place!! I had the Bayou Scampi and Bread Pudding for dessert. Both phenomenal. Look forward to coming back next time I'm in New Orleans!

I'm an Indiana boy who found himself in New Orleans, and let me tell you--Chef Ron's Gumbo Stop is a must. I had the jambalaya and the potato salad, and I don't say this lightly: it was beyond excellent. The jambalaya was the kind of dish that makes you close your eyes after the first bite and just say, "Now that's what I'm talking about." Perfectly seasoned, just the right kick, and full of that deep, slow-cooked flavor you only get when someone knows exactly what they're doing in the kitchen. It wasn't just food--it was an experience. And the potato salad? Lord have mercy, it might just be the best I've ever had. Creamy, flavorful, and balanced just right--it wasn't overly mayo-y or bland like so many are. This was the kind of potato salad you'd bring to a family reunion, knowing everyone's gonna ask you for the recipe. It didn't just complement the jambalaya; it elevated the whole meal.Chef Ron's isn't just a restaurant; it's a little slice of Southern hospitality and authentic Cajun cooking. If you're anywhere near New Orleans, don't just stop by--run, and thank me later.

Back in New Orleans from out of town and had this place recommended to us. Easy to find, comfortable ambience. One of us had a fried oyster Poboy, the other had the freckled gumbo. Pretty good. The gumbo was delicious. Fried oysters could've used a little more salt, and would recommend hollowing out the French bread for filling with fried oysters. Lots of bread.Staff was pretty nice, although one employee was coughing and talking about having been sick and needing to go to the doctor to get some antibiotics. Probably would've been a better conversation not in front of customers.

I could say this is officially my first time having like legit Gumbo. [I am from Los Angeles]. I do not have any standards or something to compare this Gumbo with other Gumbo. I could say it was delicious. It was a taste that needs to be acquired. The presentation and the seafood was gooood. I could definitely see myself getting more gumbo.

Our hotel's staff recommended Chef Ron's Gumbo Stop, saying we should visit this place to get authentic Southern food. We came on Saturday evening. Inside was spacious, with walls covered with dollar bills. The staff was friendly and welcoming. We came in near their closing time, but our server accommodated us. We got Gator bites, Classic Seafood Gumbo, and Chicken Jefferson. The gator bites were delicious. It was my first time eating alligator meat. They were crunchy, and the meat was tender. Moreover, the gumbo was terrific. It had rich and deep flavors that blended well together. Honestly, it was the best gumbo I ever tasted. Lastly, the Chicken Jefferson was great. It was like fried chicken in a shrimp/crawfish sauce. It was seasoned well and tasted fresh. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner at Chef Ron's Gumbo Stop. The portions were generous, and the prices were affordable.

When you're nearly 50 years into life in Louisiana, you've had some pretty bad gumbo more times than you can count, but it's rare that you can definitively state you've had the single worst gumbo of your life! Tonight Chef Ron won that award (and I'm convinced in spite of their claims that this is likely the only award they've ever won)! We're locals and natives and have driven by this place for years. We were curious why we kept seeing so many YouTube videos of people making it a point to stop here when we've never met anyone local whose ever even met anyone whose eaten there. Well, all I can guess is that people go to Chef Ron's only because other people keep saying go to Chef Ron's. We gave it a try and that was our mistake. We should have read the yelp reviews because then we would have realized that the only people rating it highly or raving about the gumbo are people who have never tasted gumbo and have no clue how it's supposed to taste! As to the actual gumbo? It's microwaved (twice in our case as it was not very hot the first time they brought it out). It's slimy. The chicken is stringy. The sausage is mush. The seafood is not fresh and is super overcooked. It tasted like they went to a grocery store, bought canned gumbo, pureed it, burnt it, poured in some Tony's, tossed in some old overdone shrimp tails, burnt it some more, left it in a warmer all day, dumped it into a bowl, microwaved it, and then brought it out to our table as if they shouldn't be crying in shame for their sins. Good gumbo is surprisingly hard to find in New Orleans, but even the tourist slop from most any other place (gas stations, strip clubs, and automotive tire shops included) would be better than the garbage this supposed 'gumbo shop' is slinging! The back of the menu tells you everything you need to know: 'Chef Ron' learned about gumbo in Rhode Island!!

Best gumbo(even better than my Grandma Velma's) I have ever had! I have eaten dinner here three times now and the food was always amazing. The gumbo with fried oysters on top, the fried green tomatoes appetizer, and the exquisite bread pudding were ordered every time and enjoyed with my wife(who is not really a foodie but raved about everything)! It is located in a small strip mall facing one of the N Causeway frontage roads just South of the Lakeside Shopping Mall and I definitely needed my Honda's GPS to find it as I am not a local-- it is definitely off the beaten path and yet very easy to find. Chef Ron is always fun to talk to ( we did all three times) as he makes his way around each table checking to see that each customer is feeling like they have found the holy gumbo grail in New Orleans! We think it's the best Cajun/Creole food we have ever had and will make this "our spot" on subsequent visits. *** Get an extra bread pudding to go-- you can thank me later!
