Nikki B. "Doris Metropolitan has been on my radar for quite some time, so mom and I stopped in for a drink at the bar. This Mediterranean inspired steakhouse is known for its high-quality meats, but you can also get premium seafood and high-end caviar service as well. The ambience is classy & elegant and you will receive a friendly welcome when you arrive. We sat at the bar and the lovely Jaz took care of us. Two Grey Goose Martini's dry - one with Blue Cheese stuffed olives for me and regular olives for mom. We ordered the Truffle Fries to share, and Jaz asked if we wanted some bread. I was initially going to say no, but I'm so glad I said yes because the bread was amazing! There were three types - Jalapeno Cheddar, Onion, & Sesame Brioche. They were fresh & hot out of the oven and were served with three different butters and a tomato confit with olive oil & balsamic. Each one was delicious, and it was obvious that the bread is baked in house. The truffle fries were also very good, and our martinis were excellent.Based on the exceptional service and the life changing bread platter, I will definitely come back for a sit-down meal here. I'll may even have to splurge on the caviar! Happy Hour Tues - Thurs 5 - 6:30 pm"

Holy moly the oysters are HUGE and tasty with the bread. You have to get the oysters. Most meals come with a salad of your choice between house or Caesar. The stuffed mushrooms were a great add on for appetizers. I got the norman, it was a cozy meal with really large shrimp. I personally would've liked something more spicy. The gator bites were huge as well and fresh. I recommend if you're trying to get some Louisiana cuisine in the area."

The trout crawfish etoufee was great with bold flavor and the grilled shrimp was perfect! I didn't even use the butter sauce so saved calories and still enjoyed! The steamed veggies and green beans are delicious and came with good amounts! The service was friendly attentive and young! One side is called the patio but I think it's the bar side which had a good sounding vibe but since we were driving and in a hurry we didn't get to enjoy that side! The restaurant is ideal for a casual date or for a family with kids to eat in a big booth! Yes I recommend this place and will keep it on my list of places to stop off during my beach trips!"

Nikki B. "My mom & I were looking for a place that served lobster tail since our usual go to didn't have it on the menu. Estrella came up on the list. When we got there, I was surprised to find that it was a "hole in the wall." With a name like Estrella Steak & Lobster I expected a fancy steak house. I was a bit skeptical but decided to give it a shot. Our server Brandy was delightful. She had glitter on her face and a bubbly personality. We ordered cocktails (Lemon Drop & French 75), the Louisiana Crab Cakes to start, and the Lobster Tails to share (2 for $33). We also asked for a side of sautéed mushrooms. The crab cakes were huge. Served on a thick slice of French bread and topped with a crawfish mushroom sauce. They were one of the best crab cakes we've had in NOLA. The edges were crisp, and the center was filled with chunks of big, flaky, tender crab meat. The bread was perfect for soaking up all that yummy crawfish mushroom sauce. Our entrees arrived on two separate plates. They even split the side of mushrooms for us. The lobster was perfectly cooked - tender & juicy. It tasted even better when dipped in the drawn butter. The sautéed mushrooms were also tasty. I was pleasantly surprised with how good the food was here. Sometimes the best meals come from a little hole in the wall."

David G. "I am updating my review for the sole reason of bumping 1 star for loss of value by removing the lunch price from being available at all on Saturdays. This happened some time back and I have not returned since. It became not worth the visit for me anymore when the price rose 20 for the lunch overnight. The parking lot is not very big and several spaces are compact only. So be mindful of parking. The staff helped quick to seat us and was nice. There was obvious language barriers, but that did not bother me. There is only two real options--sushi buffet (order at the table style) and hibachi. We did the sushi buffet. We also did the lunch (16 per plate plus 18% is added to the check/ 35 dollar ticket for two with water). There are paper menus on which you can mark your orders and laminated menus that help as a key to identify what's in the individual rolls that you order. There's also nigiri (a cut of sashimi on a bed of rice). I stuck mostly to the finger rolls and had one specialty roll. I preferred just eating the fish and rice without the drizzled sauce so I would probably only get the nigiri next time. If you like nigiri, the price is great for what you get because you can add soup, salad, ice-cream, and/or noodle entre items. The area was spacious and had a fish tank and nice aethetic. The fish was fresh, and i even saw them carrying 2 uncut fish fillets that were to be sized down to pieces that would be put in the sushi fridge at the bar. I would say that the bathroom needs some love. Some spray needs to be put in there or something. Both the male and female sides stunk bad and could be smelled from outside the door. The look of the restroom was not bad (same color tile on floor and wall and clean). This sushi buffet was a nice change from the way I usually experience sushi. You can't leave hungry (or it's your fault), and the quality does not significantly suffer because of the price. Come hungry and try the nigiri."

We visited recently to celebrate my brother's birthday. It was wonderful. We reminisced and told stories of previous visits. They have a new owner as of the last couple of years and even so, it's for sure still as I remember. They do have a couple of new menu items and I do believe they are great additions to the menu. One of the new items is the crabmeat au gratin, and it's very good with lots of fresh crab meat. The ribeye steak I had this visit was one of the best I've ever had here. While I do miss the days of old and the rowdiness of the restaurant and the pay phone across from the bar that customers got to answer when it was really busy, it's for sure still Charlie's and will always hold a special place in my heart from 30 wonderful years of making memories here. If you're local or just in town for a visit, make a stop at Charlie's because I know you will love it too."

I added salt and Tabasco, actually a lot, and it kind of woke up.The corn and shrimp bisque was the same, very tasteless, needed a lot of salt and pepper, just no seasoning. The red beans and rice had a hint of being good, but it was 90% rice, a couple scrapes on top and it was a bowl of white rice. Had a side of hush puppies, I liked the flavor, they seemed under done, but I actually liked them, my wife did not.Just felt like then were pulling all the seasoning because this is in I10 and maybe travelers don't like spice?"

The indoors is decorated with charming wooden sculptures of birds, fish, alligators, and more. The waitstaff are friendly and helpful, and will whisk you off to your seating. If you ask for a table in the back, you can watch the River roll by as you dine. The menu includes everything one would expect in Cajun country.
