I'm a sucker for tasting menus, and while everything we had at June was good, nothing was out of this world memorable. I do think that the portion sizes are very small, even for a tasting menu. The plates are *exquisitely* presented and there is a very big emphasis on really delicate and complimentary flavor pairings that I thoroughly enjoyed. I would also like to say that this was the tasting menu with the longest pause in between ordering/getting food and in between each course. The spaces in between courses were a little lengthy for my liking, and sometimes I even wondered if they were even coming with the next course. However, the staff themselves were absolutely great. I got a purse hook right as I walked in, they refilled our waters/replaced our utensils with frequency and precision, and each of our dishes was professionally and thoroughly described to us.We got the 8 course Discovery Menu, but with this menu you get choices, and since we were two, we decided to get different dishes so we could taste them all. Here were my thoughts:-Day Aged Pillowcase Country Ham: 7.5/10 - The flat piece of ham is served on top of a fruit leather, and you roll them up like a fruit roll up to eat. The sweetness of the fruit leather was very complimentary to the salty meatiness of the ham, but the whole thing was quite chewy and was very reminiscent of eating your average prosciutto. -Appalachian "Caviar" Service: 10/10 - Absolutely Ingenious. A perfectly pillowy soft okra seed pancake is topped with rich egg yolk fudge (!!!), pickled egg white, and pickled okra seeds that pop in the mouth delicately and deliciously. The flavors melded together splendidly, tasting both rich and fresh at the same time. The presentation was outstanding as well. Favorite dish of the night,-Bay Scallop & Bay Laurel: 6/10 - Not my favorite flavor. My father really enjoyed this, but felt that the taste of the bay laurel meringue was too overwhelming. It is also a very small bite,-Foie Gras & Watermelon: 9.5/10 - So clever!! Watermelon 3 ways (leathered, freeze dried, and pickled) stood alongside a rich, buttery, almost garlicky strip of foie gras. I adore foie gras, and the contrast in textures coming from the freeze dried watermelon and the sweet-savory relationship between the fruit and the meat really shined.-Ossabaw Pork, Pop Corn Grits: 9/10 - The pork was really rich and delicious, and was cooked to perfection. The sauce underneath was more of just an average Worcestershire sort of sauce, but I think it actually went really well with the meat. The grits were a surprise, as they actually tasted very chocolatey! I've never tasted grits like these, and so I was really taken aback by this new flavor combination, though the taste was definitely subdued.-Sakura Masu: 9/10 - As my waitress poured a rich sauce over the fish, she told me this was her favorite dish. While I won't say it was my #1, I can definitely understand why. The white fish is so delicately cooked, and the sauce on top has a creamy, soft umaminess that I tend to just love. The presentation before the sauce was poured was magnificent as well, as the fish was topped with many cute and colorful vegetable shapes.-Sourdough Cornmeal Bread with Sour Corn Butter: 9/10 - SO unique!! The bread itself is really perfectly baked sourdough, but the real star of this dish was the sour corn butter. It was SO sour! I really enjoyed it, especially since I had never had a butter with this flavor profile before, and pairing sour with sour felt very intentional. I'll also say that having the bread definitely helped fill us up a bit.-Bear Creek Beef, Marble Potato: 9.5/10 - The beef here is absolutely divine, cooked to a perfect rare. It is accompanied by a potato mousse, which when eaten with the meat becomes a delectable pairing, as well as rich pieces of black truffle and a few little potatoes. The mousse and beef together just sang.-Low Country Shellfish & Sour Corn Spoonbread: 7.5/10 - Sauces were tasty (especially the light brown one in the center), one bitter and one more savory, but I felt that they gave very little seafood. The spoonbread was also very nice in texture, but dull in flavor.-Frozen Cucumber and Herb Donut: 9/10 - This frozen ice cream donut tasted of basil, mint, and refreshing cucumber greenness, but NOT in a weird way. It was honestly really delicious and we surprisingly loved the sweetness with the herby, veggie flavor.-Sourwood Honey custard, Paw Paw Caramel: 10/10 - DIVINE! The sweet custard (doesn't taste too much of honey) paired with the perfectly made caramel sauce was just SO rich and delicious. Couldn't really taste the Paw Paw fruit, but didn't mind.-Black Walnut & Smoked Cocoa Fudge: 5/10 - Boring. Just fudge. Good, just not interesting.(They also gave my father an extra little bonbon with a candle because it was his birthday. The bonbon was just a normal chocolate, but it was a cute touch.)

See my review of Audrey for context:------------------Cut to my evening at June a few days later. I arrived, and there was no host, so I took a seat. When the host returned, he helped all the people standing at the stand, even though he clearly saw me seated. I'm pretty sure he knew who I was. No worries, though, because I wasn't that enthusiastic about this experience. I wasn't running to the table like their other guests were. You even have to walk yourself into the restaurant; they say, "Go upstairs, make a right, and then another right." I got lost. Fun! Here we go!Having tried every one of their mocktails the previous night, I knew I only wanted to drink the de-alcoholized wine from Leitz. They were ouuuttttttttttttt? Not ChiChibooobooooo, the one non-homemade kombucha concoction? The reason you meter your guests is so that you can provide them the entire experience. That's why you couldn't squeeze me in, right? You would think they were doing that to ensure they had enough for everyone who was booked that night, so why are you out of the one decent mocktail in the whole place? So fancy, yum. I remembered the night before, they showed me their version of "wine" that they had actually bottled, with this man's face on it. It was disgusting. The proxies, or whatever they call it--gross. With those being my only options, I asked if any of the cocktails could be made low-proof or zero-proof. I was hesitant because I didn't feel comfortable asking them to change anything--it is a tasting menu restaurant, after all. But the sommelier was insistent and said, "If there's anything you don't like, we'll take it off until we get it right." Okayyy, because I was quite thirsty at that point.Do you know they charged me for every one of those drinks they brought to the table, even though I only drank three to the bottom? I should've taken that discount from the night before to offset this nonsense. Ugh.The first course had caviar, so I was excited. And not just fish roe, but real Osetra caviar. I thought, "Oh, don't fret, buttercup, things are looking up." That's about where it ended. The "antelope," which was just venison, nearly reset my dental work, and the truffle thing that came with it was a whole sunflower bulb. Have you ever eaten the cob of corn as a kid? That literally tastes better than eating the base of a sunflower. Lord, help me.Now I remember from the previous night at Audrey, they brought down some tasting dishes. They brought down the chicken hand thing and the desserts, which included a bonbon. Why did they give the white couple next to me the bonbon dessert and not me? I knew it was part of the tasting menu because they had brought us some the previous night. If I wasn't done already, just as I noticed this, the world's biggest fly landed on my hand. I swear it was a cicada. Like, how??? I ran out of there. This experience cost me $418. Beware!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was one of the most disappointing and dissatisfying meal that I have had in Nashville in the last two years. My wife and I were so excited to come here. We love refined tasting menus. When we walked in to the building, we noticed that it was about 60 degrees. Very cold. It was a little warmer in June, but not much. All of the women (if they could) had stolen some sort of garment from their date. June is very classy and we loved the atmosphere. The service was excellent. Maybe even too good. There were a few times that they were explaining simple ingredients that seemed overkill. We did the 16 course adventure menu that with one wine pairing and one NA pairing will set two people back around $1200 with tip. At this price, EVERY aspect of dinner should pop. It did not. Of the 9 or so wines that came with dinner, only 3 were interesting or even tasty. Most of the whites were tasteless or downright just not good. It felt like they were trying too hard. The NA paring was the highlight of the meal. All but one was incredible. Hats off to the pairing. It was unique and very tasty. The food. The food. The food. Of the 16 courses, only 1 was superb, 1 was good, 2 were ok and the rest were very subpar. At this price point, every course should be exquisite. Not here. One of the worst disappointments was the dessert. All three were not very good and the last small bites were so bad that we left most on the table. Of the 16 dishes, I left food on the plates of 8. The pacing was also off. There was too much time between several courses. There are several 5 star reviews for this establishment. I am not sure that they were eating at the same restaurant. Maybe the reviews were purchased or that they were tourists who think they were getting something "fancy". In the end, I will not and cannot recommend this restaurant. I actually feel like we should have received a refund it was so bad. We were happy all evening and left with a smile, but in the end, we wasted $1200 and about 3 hours.

Dining at June isn't just about the food. It's about the experience, the service and the warm and fuzzy feeling you get when you step into what, (in my humble opinion) heaven looks and smells like it too. I came here for my birthday solo and sat at the chef's counter and was treated so kindly. The chefs are magicians, the sommeliers and kitchen managers are beautiful humans and the food is such a journey. It was seafood heavy, and the wine pairing was perfectly matched to each course. I honestly couldn't upload all the photos of each course I had so here are 10. This is VERY much a special occasion meal, but if you're a fan of Sean Brock and his culinary endeavors...you don't want to miss this place. It's tucked away on the 2nd floor of Audrey, and when you get in the dining room, someone will show you every single ingredient that will be used in your meal. It's art. It's amazing hospitality. You'll have a hard time deciding whether to gaze at the chefs working or the food lab in the back. I'll be back one day! Thank you so much!

You can look at my review history and see that 1-star reviews are RARE for me. That said, this restaurant could have easily been in the 2 or 3-star category if it wasn't so ridiculously overpriced. I love tasting menus. I have had mulitple tasting menus in Chicago, Austin, Scottsdale - probably a total of 10-12 different experiences. This one was the worst. I loved that they tried to work with local ingredients (feels like that is pretty standard nowadays), but its not enough to work with local farmers and vegetables. It's not even enough to do all of that and make it look appealing (which every dish was visually appealing), but the taste of about 60% of our dishes were terrible. yes there were some good bites, but when you are spending about $300/person, every single dish better be a banger. I have been at tasting menus 1/3 the price where you get good tasting food. That said, the service was impeccable (although a bit pretentious but thats kind of expected), people were friendly, and there were some good bites. Overall, even if you had unlimited $, the taste of the food specifically si enough to never come back and never recommend that anyone come here. This was extremely disappointing to write because I am a huge fan of Chef Brock, and was hoping for a much different experience, but sometimes we have to call it like we see it.

This was sad to write but this was the worst tasting menu I have tried. I appreciate the attempt of using local & unpopular ingredients and trying to give them attention, but my opinion is that it should still taste good. The best part of the meal was a piece of prosciutto, which is just disappointing. This menu also included a lot of citrus, but there was so much rind and the flavor was too strong. The first dish tasted like dish soap. In other instances they would grind a grain and incorporate it into the dish. However the consistency was similar to if you ground up uncooked rice. At one point I thought there were tiny rocks in my dish. Unpleasant and not too innovative.I'm a big fan of tasting menus and understand that sometimes new flavors can take getting used to, that's often the allure. Maybe it was just this specific menu, but for our experience, June fell very very flat.
