I hadn't been to Mum's in years, but I'm so glad I went today to grab lunch/dinner. I'd been really wanting oxtails and the place closer to me in Wake Forest was closed today. They share a parking lot with Royal India and a senior medical place, but there's plenty of parking. A lot of people say they have trouble finding it, but just look for Royal India's sign and it's right next to it. There was no line when I arrived, but there were several people eating in. One thing I like about Mum's is that you're in and out. They have the food ready, staying hot and you can see what you're getting before you can get it. I ordered the large oxtails w/ rice and cabbage. I also ordered a beef patty. I ate the patty driving home and it was perfect. I got home and couldn't wait to dive in to the oxtails. They were absolutely delicious. Falling off the bone and perfect flavor. The cabbage was cooked perfectly. I couldn't stop eating it it was so good. If you're ever in the area or even close to it, check out Mum's.

Food was amazing! I went there for oxtails but AJ sold me on the Jerk Chicken! Great choice! I'll be back to try the oxtails! I sat in and dined on my lunch. Sprite went perfect with my meal.AJ was a big part of my great experience. Very personable and connected really well with his customers.

As you can see from my pic, I ordered a LARGE Jerk Chicken and i did not remove any pieces before taking the pic. I moved the pieces around so you could see what they gave me. When i asked why the portions were so small, i was told " a large is 5 pieces". So regardless of the 'size' of the piece, you only get 5 pieces. I had to beg for sauce on the rice and peas (which was nasty) and she barely put any sauce on them. And they had an attitude about everything. I have had jerk chicken from numerous places including several times in Jamaica. This place was the WORST. And what's sad is that i have ordered from them before and it was very good. Service has declined and I would STRONGLY encourage anyone to skip Mums and head a short distance up capital to Lee's Kitchen. If anyone from management takes the time to read these reviews, DO BETTER! I wish i could give negative stars

In the heart of a bustling area, where the charm of a grocery store meets the warmth of a family kitchen, lies Mums Jamaican Restaurant. This hidden gem, doubling as a grocery, invites patrons to walk up and order, promising a culinary journey to the heart of Jamaica.Upon entry, the aroma of spices and herbs wafts through the air, leading to an array of dishes that are nothing short of a delight. The jerk chicken, a quintessential Jamaican staple, strikes a perfect balance - tender, with just enough spice to tickle the palate without overwhelming it. Beside it, the curry chicken stands out with its deep, complex flavors, each bite transporting you to the streets of Kingston. The sides, often an afterthought in many eateries, shine equally here. The mac and cheese is a creamy dream, rich in flavor and perfectly cheesy. Collard greens and cabbage, seasoned to perfection, add a fresh, flavorful contrast to the rich meats. And then, the unexpected star - the carrot cake. Often relegated to a mere endnote, here it takes center stage with its impeccable texture, moist yet holding its shape, not too crumbly, and striking a delectable balance of sweetness and spice. The service at Mums Jamaican Restaurant is a reflection of the food: genuine, warm, and full of belief in the quality of their offerings. The owners' pride in their culinary creations is evident, making every patron feel like a guest in their home.Ease of access is the cherry on top, with ample parking and easy-to-find location, removing any barriers to this delightful experience.Mums Jamaican Restaurant is more than just a place to eat; it's a journey to Jamaica on a plate, served with love and pride. A must-visit for anyone seeking authentic Jamaican flavors and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

I am upgrading Mum's to a 5 star experience. I gave them a chance again today, and my food was delicious. I was feeling home sick today and wanted some Jamaican soup, beef patties, and black cake. My cravings can be that of a pregnant woman. Raised by Jamaican grandparents from Kingston, I know good food. I first tried the curry goat here last year and was pleased. Today, I had the chicken soup, beef patties and a very moist black cake. Soup was excellent with dumpling and carrots. The Patties were nice and spicy. The black cake was a dream. I may need to order a whole cake. Everything was piping hot upon delivery. Thank you mum's for feeding a home sick belly.

This is a small Caribbean spot off capital boulevard that has a grocery shop inside as well. There's only a few tables so it's best to take-out from here.Their oxtails are actually very good. Many places around here have overcooked or small cut pieces of oxtails but Mum's was very good. I was pleasantly surprised. Their rice and peas was delicious as well. I would recommend the oxtails but they could've given more for $22. Their sides were not great though. Their cabbage was not good and their mac looked like it came from a microwaved box. This was disappointing because the sides make the dish great, especially mac. They offered a vegan stew but it was really just beans with some jamaican spinners. We aren't a fan of spinners since they're just flour dumplings with little taste so the vegan stew was kind of a rip-off. They could've tried to make a nice veggie stew with peppers and other vegetables.

The food and service was amazing!! I had oxtails, cabbage rice and peas. So flavorful, fresh and good portions. Lots of products to buy to stock your spice cabinet with as well. Sea moss, hot sauces, marinades. I will be back for sure!!! I don't have spicy to post this time cause I ate so fast. But I will post one next time. Definitely recommend!

Mums Jamaican Restaurant is amazing! The service is super friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home. The ambience is cozy and vibrant, with reggae music playing in the background that really sets the mood. The jerk chicken was bursting with flavor, the oxtail stew was tender and savory, and the plantains were perfectly sweet. A true taste of Jamaica right in the city!
