I had heard about this type of cuisine but never tried. On a recent visit to Philadelphia, I stopped into the Market at Fareway and spotted MoMos of Tibet. The prices were so affordable, I had to try. I got 4 - chicken, beef, pork, and the veggie with cheese. The chicken was shredded, the pork and beef were more like a dense meatball, and the veggies were shredded and had some melted cheese. I would have liked to try the squash version too, but they had run out. They come with soy or a spicy dipping sauce. I got soy with mine. We sat outside while I tried these little fried delights. They were so tasty- not overly greasy or heavy. They are slightly similar to an egg roll in terms of the filling but the outer crust was more like a flaky pastry. I have seen them on cooking shows where they looked more like a boiled dumpling. I wasn't starving and had just planned on getting a snack but they were so good, I went back for 4 more. This time I tried the spicy sauce as well. It wasn't super hot, just mild and flavorful. The service was so friendly as well. I would definitely recommend trying this place. They also served a sandwich that seemed to have similar filling as the MoMos and fried rice. This was definitely worth the stop and I'd I lived closer, I'd have gotten some frozen ones to take home!

How awesome is it to have a Tibetan momo spot in my nearby Chestnut Hill Farmer's Market? I have long loved momos - be they Nepalese or Tibetan. In Vienna, I have my go-to Tibetan and Nepalese eateries whenever I get a craving. And I have the same in Philadelphia - well not the Nepalese. This stand in the market usually has an offering of six different types of Momos. Recently I took home the beef, the butternut squash, and the spinach & potato nonos. Of course I asked for their hot sauce as well. They tasted good and hit the spot. Now in the future, the proprietor tells me he wants to make Tibetan Shapale for sale. When that happens you can add a star to this review.

These momo are delicious! And no they are not like a Chinese dumpling and TBH it's kinda careless to compare it to a Chinese dumpling (like another reviewer does) given the history between Tibet and China (if you're not familiar, it's worth the google). Momo are supposed to be thicker, doughier and heartier than Chinese dumplings - it's kinda like ordering a deep dish pizza and being upset that it doesn't taste like a flatbread. As someone who's had the good fortune of being able to try traditional momo prepared by Tibetan monks I can say these momo are legit. The dough is thicc, so each bite has a satisfying al-dente chew with a nice crispy pan-sear on the edges. I highly recommend the spinach potato if they have it - the filling is similar to mashed potatoes with savory spinach mixed in.

They are never open. Great dumplings but every time cod gone they are closed. Again good is great but I've gone several times recently and they have been closed.

MoMos of Tibet is tucked inside the Chestnut Hill's Market at the Fareway and was a must-try for our first time in the area! Unfortunately, they looked much better than they tasted as the meat inside was really dry. We had 6 for $10 and tried one of each flavor (pork and cabbage, butternut squash, veggie and cheese, spinach and potatoes, chicken and veggie, beef). I expected them to be like Chinese dumplings but unfortunately they were so dry, no soup inside, and the skin was lacking in flavor. The best one was butternut squash because it was moist. Pro tip: you can try all the sauces, the owner gave us all 3 sauces to try and was really nice! Definitely worth a try.

I came here with my daughter when we were in the area and needed something quick to eat. We found this place just by walking up and down the street and nothing else was open. I had zero expectations going in. What a pleasant surprise! The dumplings were delicious. They made them for us to order and they were piping hot, crispy, and oily and completely hit the spot just when we needed them. The butternut squash and chicken were especially good, as well as the hot sauce. If I'm in the area again, I'd definitely go back.

This was my first time trying momos and they were delicious! They have 6 different flavors, beef, spinach& potatoes, veggie & cheese, chicken, butternut squash, & pork & cabbage. My personal fav are butternut squash, veggie, & beef! They have a side of sauces to pair with. Definitely worth the try!

These dumplings blew my socks off. Ground beef was the crowd favorite with the green sauce. Second was pork, followed by the chicken. The dumplings were made fresh and had incredible flavor. Go early or he will sell out!

Really delicious! There is some chili sauce they make that has some kind of nectar from the gods in it. It's like a creamy chili umami. If they bottled it I would drink it straight.
