This sushi spot is so close to my house. I enjoy getting the lunch specials or happy hour. Their price on those deals are a steal! Rolls 4/5 Good amount of fish to rice ratio. The rolls are thick and good. Nigiri 3/5It's decent. The one I didn't like the most was the tuna and eel. It was as tasty as other places. Miso soup 5/5Can you believe some places their miso just doesn't taste right. This one is spot on.

The restaurant was closed when I came by December 22, 2023. It had a key lock box on the door. It appears to have been closed for some time.

Very good food and service. Never judge a book they say and for Mochi this true. Kapok I g at the restaurant from the outside I had to stop my wife and son from turning around. Yet once inside we found the traditional sushi bar restaurant with Japanese food, beer and wine on the menu. Thanks to many positive reviews we can and had a really nice, authentic and moderately priced dinner. The assortment of sushi styles, sadhu and side plates made our dinner fun and a little different.

The odor that was encountered as we entered the restaurant was enough to make anyone turn around and leave but we were desperate at that point with a hangry toddler who loves Asian food. The sushi was not bad but the salmon teriyaki was flavorless. I will not be back, sadly as it's very close to my house.

My friend Sue loves this place, and if you know Sue she has good taste, so you should take her word for it.Get it? Sue, she? No?No.We're both big fans of Mochi Sushi and it's hard not to be because they make good products which are delicious and not too horribly expensive. It's a really cute store name as well because we have a cat named Mochi. He's one of our first-ever cats, and the first one that I adopted from the streets of Houston.Anyway, we've only been here once so far, but we're big fans. There will definitely be a second time, at which point I'll expand the review more thoroughly.

Been wanting to write an updated review, COVID edition, but just never got around to it. So the pandemic hit in 2020, forcing many businesses to close down, the restaurant industry is one of the most affected, and from the consumer standpoint, a lot of the restaurants who we did not expect to shut down were shut down, and similarly some restaurant we thought would close its doors remained open.Mochi Sushi actually belonged to the latter in terms staying open when we thought it would close its doors. Different degrees of mandates by the state or city were used throughout the year, whether it was limiting the number of patrons and spaced apart per guidelines, mask requirements, no dine in, limiting the hours of operations, the only thing that wasn't ordered was to take away to-go or take out orders. Mochi remained open throughout this time by being flexible when it comes to the method of selling their services (limited dining with take out available, and delivery options through on its own or through services like DoorDash, Ubereats, Grubhub, etc.).Since more people were asked to work from home, and because grocery stores are also under tight restrictions, people either learned to cook a few more things on their own, or they do rely on a few more take outs / deliveries than they used to, looking back at our 2020 spending, we ate quite a lot of times with Mochi. There were times when dining resumed but you can't exactly practice social distance with a mask on and eat at the same time, so ever since the pandemic started, when we ordered food, it was always to go. Even though some foods are meant to be enjoyed in the place they are served, we still preferred to eat in our home.Japanese style foods are not meant to be cheap, and Mochi is no exception, but they are generally more budget friendly than some other establishments around town, and there is also the convenience factor of it still being located fairly close to my house. The choices of cuisine and the taste were liked by my family, likely the reason why we relied on them as much as we did last year. I usually just call in my order, get an estimated time, make my way over there when it's almost time, and typically I don't have to wait long to pay for my food (sometimes 5 to 10 minutes tops, but that's because I arrived earlier), and then head home to eat.Their lunch special remains one of our most utilized menu items because of the price/value, but likely due to the pandemic, it used to be 7 days a week, but now it is being used as weekday only. However, it never hurts to ask to see if the restaurant management can do it by request, I've had a few cases where we would have liked to order the lunch special on weekends and the manager agreed without much issue, we would have been ok to order something else on the weekends too, but all one has to do is ask.Mochi survived the pandemic because of its flexibility and its hard working staff. Last I heard, their other venture (Raki in Missouri City) is also doing quite well. I hope everything stays well with this establishment.

So Japanese restaurants come pretty standard. You know the sort, the hibachi grills (which are amazing), the style of cooking they use and of course sushi rolls. Most Japanese restaurants feature authentic styles of cuisine, though like a lot of cultural restaurants if you want the more traditional and less americanized, you often have to go to a highly expensive restaurant somewhere in a downtown metropolitan area. That is where this place has shocked me, and in a fantastic way. When I first spotted them, I saw they had the grilled whole squid and was curious, I looked it up and found that it was a traditional street food in Japan! So of course, I had to try it, and it was the first meal from here. It was amazing, the flavor was fresh and the quality truly cared to.Next, and yes I am a gamer, I'm playing an open-world style game set in Japan that is made in Japan. Some of the in-game restaurants feature dishes such as Takoyaki and Shoyu Ramen, two things that I found out this location had. As such, I ordered both to try for the first time, and oh my god it was amazing. Finally I got to try traditional cuisine without having to risk a traffic accident by going downtown or high prices. The squid, which they sell here for 16.00, I would expect a high-class traditional restaurant to charge in the high twenties for! The options on their menu aren't found in other Japanese restaurants in the area either, which was another quality plus for me.The staff is very friendly, and when you first see them you don't expect the full experience you will receive here. They are truly a new favorite of mine, and one that I would be willing to drive out to. Indeed, I highly recommend them, you cannot go wrong and you just may get to try some dishes that you've never tried before. Beyond worth it, I am truly grateful to have found them, a unique Japanese restaurant unlike what you find elsewhere. Always I say Japanese food is my favorite type of food, this restaurant may well become my new favorite Japanese restaurant.

This is what as know as a "hidden gem." I'd probably put it against any sushi place in Sugar Land easily. It's small and quaint as neighborhood establishments tend to be. Their sushi is good, bento is great value, ramen is solid (I've heard a New Yorker say it was better than NY ramen. Take that as you will), manager seems to care about customers, wait staff is fast and generally friendly. I live about 5 miles up the road in Richmond and I'd take this over the sushi places near me. Good stuff.
