First off we were waiting outside for a time, not sure why? We were able to get a table no problem on a Saturday evening. However it seemed like they prefer a reservation. The inside is darling, it feels very European. Service is lovely. They did forget our bread but no biggie. I had a caesar salad and it was divine. The bread was just so-so. A think a varied homemade bread basket would have been a vast improvement. Many tempting dishes on the menu. Most entrees come with a pasta side. I opted for the chicken saltimboca. My mom made a variant of this dish: thin, tender sauteed chicken scallops wrapped in prociutto, and finished in a delicate white wine sauce. Sadly, Mia's version was one tough-as-a-workboot breast wrapped in prociutto and served atop a tablespoon flavorless sauce. It tasted like zero seasonings were used, no salt. No wine detected. The chicken breast was bone dry and overcooked. What I really needed was a steak knife to cut through it. The pasta aside it also had no seasonings, no taste whatsoever. Maybe Mia's is better with red sauce dishes? I don't know. But I was not impressed.Well at least I can vouch for the Caesar- very good!

I always order chicken piccata when I try a new Italian restaurant. The execution of their piccata usually determines if I'll return or not. I will NOT return to Mia Trattoria. This dish was as salty as the sea! I couldn't eat more than two bites. I was forced to order a different dish, which I also didn't like. One guest said their salmon pasta didn't taste like salmon at all. It had a weird, anchovy taste. Another guest in my party ordered, and hated, the sausage and broccoli pasta. Unfortunately, most of us didn't like our entrees, but the appetizers were good. We had the calamari, bruschetta, and octopus. We would've left starving if it weren't for the appetizers.

I had high hopes for this place, but as it turns out the food was not even close to expectations. Don't get me wrong... I'd gladly pay for a $27 chick n parm that knocked my socks off, but this def ain't it. I would recommend taste testing the food for freshness, and consider how items are prepped before hitting the table. Tomatoes on the caprese were a little, how do I put this, not ready to pick. Anyone could have caught this by looking at the tomato and tasting it. My wife's fork had food on it, from not being washed property. Back to the parm. The chicken was dry as a bone, and seemed prepped before hand. Like a shoe. Pretty sure it was microwaved, and that shined through. The pasta had so little sauce on it that the pasta taste actually overpowered the sauce. That's difficult to fuck up. Cute place. Staff was pleasant enough. With so many other Italian places in the area, I can't see coming back to this one. Which sux, because it's in my hood.On a side note. I laughed at the owners response to the diner that said her shrimp had the vein in it. News flash owner... it's poop. No one wants to eat that. Even if it is fresh poop.

Cozy and authentic - family-owned! - Italian spot in Banker's Hill. The food was fairly priced and tasted fresh. The menu has all the classic dishes, and if you're looking for a decent Italian meal in a quiet setting, Mia Trattoria should do the trick. That said, we did have an issue with the reservation system. We'd initially made the reservation online but when we arrived the staff denied we were on the books and the bartender acted condescendingly toward us. They eventually found us space which I do appreciate regardless. If the restaurant only wants to take reservations by phone I totally understand that, would just recommend that this be communicated more clearly! It can be frustrating to get a confirmation delivered to your email + phone, make plans, and then arrive and be denied the space you thought you'd reserved.

The am Ian Eid quiet and comforting in the small family owned Italian restaurant. The server was helpful and guided us to order the right quantity. We started with the fried calamari. One dish was plenty to share and we each had a taste. We then ordered the Caesar salad. We were skeptical when our server said it would serve four. Each of us had a nice portion to separate our salad from the appetizer. The linguine with seafood and white wine souse was very good as was the eggplant parmigiana. This is a restaurant to which we will return. The staff was friendly and the food was good.

I have ordered food via DD from here on a random pick and it was so good , I had to come into the restaurant. We started out with the bruschetta with seasonal toppings, and it was beautiful and tasty. we also had the minestrone and I have to admit it might be the best in the city. I've tried a lot of them. for dinner we had the chicken marsala and the chicken Parmesan, needless to say we cleaned our plates. it's a small restaurant. It's very cozy and pretty inside with seating on the patio as well. It seems like a family owned restaurant where the owner served us and the staff were very friendly and polite. This might be one of our new Italian places we will put on the rotation if you haven't tried it you must.

Had New Year's Eve dinner here and really enjoyed it. The lamb ribs were incredible with the red wine reduction, delicious. All of the meals were elegant and had great flavors. Great spot for a nice date night, very cozy and friendly inside and the service was amazing. Each course was timed to come out right as the previous dishes were cleared away. I'd love to come back!

One of our favorite restaurants in all of San Diego! Anytime we travel to San Diego we always go to Mia Trattoria! The chicken Parmesan is phenomenal but really every dish here is excellent! The vibe is very relaxed so be prepared to take your time and enjoy the experience. Great ambience in a wonderful little neighborhood restaurant.
