"I was eager to try this new restaurant that's close to me. I went in for lunch, and ordered an appetizer of spring rolls (3 for $4.29), a Spicy Salmon roll of sushi ($6.25) and the Hibachi Chicken ($11.99) which comes with either a soup or a salad. I chose the salad over the onion soup offered.The salad was uninspiring - it was 99.9% iceberg lettuce, but good and cold and crisp with a nice ginger dressing in a cup. All the food was good and fresh and hot. The chicken had a good flavor in a tasty sauce. The vegetables were also excellent. The rice was a good quantity in its separate compartment. The Chicken Hibachi was served in a plastic container with everything separate (I had told them I'd be boxing it up).The sushi was also good - the raw Spicy Salmon roll was on a par with any sushi I've had in Jonesboro. I'm not a sushi expert but I know when it's good!Overall I think you get good food, but the prices are a bit high. You can go to other oriental food places in Jonesboro and get a buffet all-you-can-eat, or takeout by the pound, and pay considerably less. Nevertheless I will be back to Umai, not only because it's close and convenient but because I'd like to try other menu items.Lastly - and this is not the restaurant's fault - the taxes are killing me on food! My food cost came to $22.53 but the total bill with taxes was $25.77. That's $3.24 or 14.38% in taxes! I sure hope we in Jonesboro are going to get our money's worth for this outrageous amount of taxes on food - but it's probably a forlorn hope."

"We love the entertainment of a Hibachi dinner, & we've been here twice now. It was delicious both times. We've had the filet, lobster, scallops, and chicken and loved them all. They were packed for Valentine's Day so things were a bit hectic. We were seated 30 minutes earlier than expected so that was nice. Every table was full and lots of orders were being picked up as well. The sushi looks amazing, but I haven't tried it. Can't wait to again!"

"This place is one of go to's in Columbia! I love that we can get hibachi, sushi, or Chinese or a mix! Every time we have been the food comes out fresh and fairly quickly!Egg drop and hot and sour soups are good, but they don't have crunchies/wonton strips to put on top (which is the best part IMO). Apps: egg rolls, gyoza, and crab Rangoons. All were as to be expected flavor wise, nothing out of this world but all very fresh, crispy, and come out piping hot!For entrees we ordered house lo mein and some sushi rolls to share! I can't remember all of the sushi rolls we got but everything was great. I have had expensive sushi, gas station sushi, and small town sushi. It's a quaint little seating area with some booths on the back wall, a nice sushi bar, and several tables. It's kind of unsuspecting being next to Kroger. I feel like service is hit or miss but not enough to not go there!! I'd definitely recommend it-- it's a great little spot with delicious food for almost any kind of Japanese/Chinese/sushi you're craving!"

"Good Sushi for a good price! I went in for my sushi fix and boy was it satisfied. I ordered three kinds: Spicy Shrimp, Crab, & California and they were delicious. This was my first visit. You seat yourself, then someone comes and take your order. The waitress/cashier was on the phone the entire time, but boy I must say she is a "master multi-tasker" haha. She took care of me greatly in spite of. I wouldn't say that this would be my go to Sushi spot, but if I am in the area and have a strong sushi craving I will stop in."

"Can I just say that CoVid is a jerk? Now that I have that out of the way, time for my review.Under normalcy I really like this place. They have a pretty wide selection from sushi to mini corn dogs. This is where I usually tell you what I ate.... I ate everything, okay? Don't judge me. CoVid has this place weird. So usually I would just walk through the buffet balancing as many plates as possible to get as much food as my 160 pound frame can handle. But now you have to let someone else spoon the food out for you while you wait. Ugh. Annoying. I mean, I get it. Everyone is terrified and whatever. But can we agree it's annoying?The food is almost always good here. I'm very partial to calamari and the egg rolls. I usually overdo it on these two things in particular. The calamari is so salty I have to take a drink after every bite. And that's why I love it. Hey look, if you like Asian buffet type food then you'll like it here. It's not gonna blow your socks off. But it's pretty good. And you can't beat the price. I definitely recommend it. I eat here about every two weeks. Definitely try the calamari!!"

"This is the best meal I've had in Mayfield and I've been visiting family here since the 70s. The hibachi steak and shrimp was a excellent. I ordered rare and it was nice rare with a good searing and the shrimp was grilled to perfection. You could taste the freshness of the vegetables and the rice was not too salty but with enough flavor that I didn't need to add any soy sauce or salt. I would estimate at this restaurant as a regular if I lived here and I wish there was a place with this quality near my house in Los Angeles."

"I have been to teriyaki madness in nolensville but I like this one better. Chicken teriyaki had some char and crispy edges which adds to the flavor. The dine in area is small but owners were there and enthusiastic. I recommend the white (steamed rice) because at the nolensville location, the brown rice had a weird taste. My suggestion would be fresh lemon slices for the iced tea."

"We came here to enjoy a little late night snack. I enjoyed one of the new specials of sushi which it was really really good especially the dipping sauce that came with it. I love the steam buns. They are always delicious and the tempura fried shrimp was really great with the steam bun. The fried rice was just as good as when they cook it on the hibachi. The noodles were OK for me. I didn't really care for the texture. The mixed vegetables was good too. The server was able to make recommendations of menu items and he was nice."

The staff here were incredibly friendly and we got our food with a quick turnover considering how much sushi our table ordered.3. The prices here are VERY great. You can get very affordable sushi here. 4. They were open when neighboring sushi restaurants were closed. (Midday between lunch & dinner)That said, there are no frills here. We got the very basic sushi which were $4.99 a roll (!!!!) or 2 for $9.99 and that came with a miso soup! We tried: cucumber roll, California roll, spicy crunchy crab, and spicy California roll. They were all priced within that price range I mentioned and we were happy with nearly everything. Know that when they say a cucumber roll-- it's literally JUST cucumber inside rice & seaweed. I did not expect that and wouldn't get that one again. Also, the spicy sauce that came on their spicy rolls was overpowering in a bad way. Next time I'll get it on the side or without the sauce all together... you just couldn't taste the sushi or anything except the sauce. (And there was way too much sauce on it, IMO.)All in all? We'd come back again. My daughter really loved the artwork on the walls of the restaurant so huge kudos to whoever did the art inside because it really is breathtaking."

Based on what items my husband and I eat at these two restaurants the value is a little better here. Of course, Tokyo will see a higher volume of traffic due to their location in a shopping center near the Walmart Supercenter and movie theater, but to me success means repeat customers. If the quality isn't there I do not go back at all, or I take a break from the place for a few months and let them have a chance to regroup. The main differences between these two, practically mirror image restaurants, are the number of dishes offered and the taste of the onion soup and the miso soup. Yamato only offers the two soups, whereas Tokyo offers seven flavors. The soup base at Yamato is the same so it doesn't matter which soup you order...both tastes the same. Beef lovers, such as my husband, will have much more to choose from here at Tokyo, with upward of 30 variations to pick from. You can eat here everyday for 2 1/2 weeks and have nothing but tempura options, with at least 14 of them being shrimp. The New China Buffet has been the place to go for sushi and stir-fry foods for the past decade, but with this new blood and competition they are adding a hibachi buffet area to their restaurant and it will be functioning within a week (end of Dec and there aren't any details yet as far as price and availability). http://www.yelp.com/biz/new-china-buffet-corinthThe hibachi salmon entree was my first choice for the grand opening visit to Tokyo and was not disappointed in the least. It is served with fried rice, vegetables, soup and a salad. My husband chose to try the NY Strip hibachi entree served with the same options. I don't know what their secret is to obtaining such tender steak but it is better than most steak houses and definitely better than almost any steak sold in this town. "We love this restaurant! We went around 7pm on a Wednesday, and were seated right away. The service is excellent and they are very attentive. I ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box and my husband got beef bulgogi bento box. When I say it's a bunch of food, trust me! There's sooooo much! Each box comes with your choice of 4 rolls, we both got the California roll, veggie and shrimp tempura, soup and salad, two crab cream cheese rolls, rice and your entree. All of the items were delicious! It was so much food, that we took all of our many entrees home. The leftovers were delicious too! The restaurant has plenty of parking, and a decent amount of tables. There is seating around the sushi bar too! We will be back!"
