Nice ambiance, what you would expect from a fried seafood house. Food: ordered three combination. Flounder, oysters, scallops. I'm not sure what the scallops were. They were not scallops, rubbery hard, freezer burnt . Maybe freezer burnt overcooked chunks of fish I could not eat after the first. Flounder was paperthin and overcooked. Oysters had good flavor and breading but were very small. Service: I did not even get a chance to complain, waitress dropped off food and ticket never came back. Person checking me out never asked how it was, so I'm leaving a review. Will not return. I was expecting to much from a fried fish house but this was sad.

We eat at this location often and it's consistently a good experience. The food is always fresh, arrives hot and tastes delicious. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. Good menu options too and the daily specials are great. Mayflower is one of Smithfield's hidden gems,

Smithfield, North Carolina. I've never regretted paying $50 for a meal more than I have at this place. Wow...not a good experience at all.I chose their alleged "flagship" entree, which is the $25 Broiled Mayflower Plate, or something to that effect. When I tell you that not ONE item on that plate had any flavor, I'm not even remotely exaggerating. Completely devoid of any seasoning. Here's the breakdown: Scallops: Zero flavor, over-cooked, and the texture was off. I honestly suspect these jumbo "scallops" were nothing but cookie-cut skate/ray wing pieces, due to the complete lack of chew and flavor. It was like eating a white, tasteless tofu. Jumbo shrimp: Overcooked and hard. Whitefish filets: Overcooked and hard. Dousing it with lemon had no effect! Stuffed crab: Zero flavor. Salt and a TON of Texas Pete couldn't even help it. Also had a bad previously-frozen taste to it, which I'm sure they are.Bottom line, properly BROILED seafood is supposed to be buttery, seasoned, moist and flaky. Not hard and needing a knife to break a piece off so you can chew it endlessly. Charging $25 for this monstrosity should land someone in the Johnston County Courthouse, because it's pure theft of customer money. Yeah...it was THAT bad.The Mayflower in Raleigh was always somewhat decent. This place just made my "Hard No" and "Never Again" lists. To the owners: Sorry for the brutal review, and maybe I caught your place on a bad day, but this was a really bad, overpriced experience.

Mayflower serves up tastier seafood than many 5-star restaurants I've dined in, and at a far more affordable price! I get takeout more often than I dine in , but all my eat-in experiences have been extremely pleasant, and with nothing to complain about - service was friendly and fast. The food......wonderful! They have a very large menu, with a variety of ocean dwellers to please any palate! I prefer the combination plates, which allow you to select any two (or, for a bit more in cost, three) fish or seafood options. Catfish, oysters, fried jumbo shrimp, popcorn shrimp, oysters, deviled crabs, clam strips and scallops are only a few of the choices you can feast on! You also get hush puppies, fried or baked potatoes and cole slaw on the side. I can highly recommend all of the above! The fried catfish is always flaky and tender, and the fried oysters are a favorite of mine.Mayflower does not stint on portions, either! You will get a very large serving, and I always have enough to snack on later or eat for lunch the next day. Definitely a good value for the money!Take-away service is fast (generally about ten minutes) and they check each order as they give it to you so there are no goofs. The atmosphere may not look like much, but don't be fooled. Mayflower is worth your time and you won't go away unhappy - or hungry!I've eaten at this site, and the Raleigh and Garner stores. Experience at all three was the same - awesome.

The place is a decent size we got seated right away. The waiter was great, friendly and attentive as far as the food it has no taste to it at all. I had the shrimp alfredo with chicken and bread on the side the sauce was watery it had no flavor it taste similar to chicken soup in a can the garlic bread had more flavor than the pasta. We also ordered mozzarella stick which was lukewarm on the outside and the cheese was cold on the inside how do u mess that up? We had the jumbo shrimp which was the only thing I enjoyed 10 pieces for $10.99 very overpriced. We had crab clusters 2 pieces also overpriced hushpuppys was blah, pink lemonade taste like sugar water. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY.

Usually when we order to go, the food is good Tonight it seemed like the food had been sitting around for awhile. Both the broiled jumbo shrimp and the large fried shrimp were chewy and didn't have much of a taste. Disappointed

I typically do not take the time to share a poor experience when going out to eat however I feel our experience this afternoon should be expressed in hopes this information can be used to improve the dining and customer service experience going forward.Upon arrival we were not greeted. No one at the cash register or to be seen. My husband went to the restroom while I patiently waited to be greeted and seated. Upon my husband's return I was still waiting on someone. He noticed all the help was hanging out in the kitchen still no regards to us standing waiting to be seated. Finally a young fellow poked his head out and said someone would be out in a minute. Finally a young girl seated us she was very pleasant and got us seated. We placed our order and patiently waited for our order. After about 25 to 30 minutes we were brought our food. Mind you we have no issues waiting for fresh food to be cooked and served. Unfortunately, upon receiving our food my husbands food was warm at the very least. I had to send my sweet potato fries back as they were barely warm and under cooked. The flounder was cooked perfectly and was delicious. Obviously they had issues with timing on plating the food so that everything could be served hot. If I had to guess they cooked his food first as well as my sweet potato fries while they were cooking my flounder as I stated it was served hot and was delicious. My husband did not want to be a bother so he just ate a forth of what was on his plate while I finished eating my founder and fresh cooked sweet potato fries which were cooked perfect after the first set was returned. Now to the most surprising part of our unpleasant visit: as we were leaving I went to the restroom my husband went to pay the bill. The young man asked how was his meal and my husband told him it was not good. The guy said sorry to hear that and went about his way. As my husband was leaving he turned around the young guy was mocking him and making faces. As I was coming out of the bathroom having no idea that my husband had told him that his food wasn't great I heard the young guy talking with the others in the kitchen laughing and making fun that the poor guy didn't enjoy his meal. Totally unacceptable. From a customer perspective and spending $34.00 for two meals to have such an unpleasant experience and then to be made fun of just doesn't rest easy with me. It seemed as though there was no supervision and the young staff was just having a free for all "Let's just take our time, who cares if we serve cold food and then be disrespectful on top of that! I hope this information falls in the right hands so that management is aware of what has happened and hope it's addressed so no one else that patrons your established has this experience.Quick background: we typically eat at your establishment about one to two times a month although it's probably been a couple of months since our last visit and this is the first time we have ever had this experience!

I don't know what I was expecting but this was not it. My husband and I have driven by Mayflower for 4 years and finally had the chance to stop in for lunch. We both ordered the clam chowder, I had the fried grouper with hush puppies and a tossed salad and he had the Captains Smiths Platter (fried shrimp, oysters, scallops, flounder, and hush puppies). Everything was visibly unseasoned and flavorless and clearly not a single grain of salt, pepper or otherwise was used at any step of preparation. Even the hush puppies were dense, bland, when cracked open it, was easy to see that it was nothing more than cornmeal and too much binder. My husband's fried oysters had an off smell and were green hued and his scallops where so overcooked I'm pretty sure they would have bounced if dropped. The one positive I can give for the food, was the grouper was perfectly flaky however the shear lack of a spice rack in this kitchen did it zero justice. The only redeeming quality of this establishment were the attentive and kind staff. It's just so unfortunate that they have to serve such underwhelming food.
